And yes, I too cackled gleefully when the Captain showed up. Funny how he's one of the most popular characters, despite us knowing next to nothing about him. And that's my only complaint: these are great characters, with great potential, but we hardly get to see or learn much about them.

I agree with you. There are times I wish in the OVAs that we got some more backstory on some of these characters. I'm glad we get them in the Mangas, but, compared to them, the OVAs have cut it out almost. I guess that's due to "how much time" they're allotted to each one...

Hirano made a vague statement that she could be a bit of both (male and female, thus a hermaphrodite), but he could have just been joking. In any case, outwardly, Heinkel is a woman. Maxwell does COMMENT on her gender in the manga, but I don't recall him actually finding out for himself.

Rip had the most brutal death by Alucard, Zorin really gets her ass dismembered, but the same character that slaughtered Zorin has a very hard time beating the Capt, and even seemed like the Capt was going to win at first.
