Would this also apply to grungier vocals (eg Kurt Cobain, Aaron Lewis, Deron Miller)? I want to strengthen my vocals for alternative metal and grunge.
you know that you've really helped us wit a valuable point by suggesting not to use tension in the throat , but then how is that you get the err.... sound i mean some thing like how it comes in songs like HIT YOU WITH THE REAL THING , LInKIn PARK SONGS etc...
@muzzzicman i have a problem....i can sing pretty high...but...after one hour singing with my band i am losing my voice....the false brathing is teh problem? :/
@942edin relax your throat by by bringing the corners of your mouth in, this causes air to flow easier make sure you have a good posture, also very importantly breath from stomach not chest meaning all your air comes from stomach
@MCARRMUSIC343 I want to know the same thing. I want his tone, I have almost the same voice as he does (not singing). That low, powerful voice, but I can't put it in my singing :[
Finally someone who talks about proper breathing techniques! I was taught that stuff at college by an amazing lady by the name of Claire-Louise Lucas, and it's quite possibly the most useful, and important thing anyone has shown me!
well im definetley a begginer with singing completly...besides like you know singing along at a acdc concert...but...ive got a question...ive had really bad asthma since i was born...would singing and bad asthma be a bad idea? when ive tried singing along with airbourne im fine when it comes to air...i wish i could sould like that...i like the way he sounds ..also with bon scott and brian johnson...the guy from jackyl...that kidna thing..thanks whenever you can answer :)
Hi. I just wondering. I want a high head voice, what should i think when i try to get a high tone with my voice ?. I know one singer Jocke berg in hardcore superstar. He have an amazing voice. And he can sing very high notes.
dude, you put in some great points here but you HAVE to explain the things you're talking about. Generalizations won't help anyone achieve anything quickly.
Your videos seem very interesting and useful, I've been thinking of start practicing, how long you'd say it would take me to start getting results, if I'll be practicing like, an hour a day or so? Sorry for bad english.
hi, i am stuck on a technique that i feel is impossible, yet a guy some how does it, he sings with a deep chest voice and a high head voice at the same time, and its an octave apart, see downlode singing sweet child of mine on youtube, and he switches to the voice at 3:05 then normal voice, then at 3:22, then back to normal then again at 5:01. he does it in a number of songs when he wants high power, his voice transforms , its awesome live as it sends shiver down ones spine, what's he doing?
In this video you talk about concentrating on increasing your range. I'm a lot more interested in just expressing emotion and singing more along with a guitar. the best example I can think of right now is like Dave Grohl in Foo Fighters, he doesn't have a great range, but his voice is pleasant enough to serve the purpose of his songs.
hey man, I got a question, I used to be able to sing perfectly, then like 10 years ago, I was partying, and kinda put strains on my vocals.. ever since that my vocals have changed utterly... It's like they broke and I nowdays CANT hit the notes I used to .. I like to tell you I was REALLY good, I used to sing solo in church etc.. but when that happend I lost all will to sing...I dont know if my voice is better.. but one thing is sure, it's not like it used to be..got any tips how to rehab myself
Hey mate thanks for this. I was curios to know wether or not I could send you one my covers I did recently and have you tell me what you thought in terms of how my technique and range is etc. Everything you spoke about in this vid is true and correct. Great advice for a lot of singers. Well done sir.
@LadyQuinn09 Or theyre like me and are not satisfied with what they can do and recognize that they can learn from an already educated source. believe it or not some people really want to improve themselves for them. and beleive it or not some people arent vain enough to beleive they know everything there is to know about their own vocals. the human body eludes us every day. go read a book.

I'll be honest Ive never had to take a singing lesson. my school band has 4 vocalists including me, and the girl singer came up to me while i was tuning my guitar and said "who'd you take singing lessons from" I said "I didn't I just listen to the songs memorize the words and tones and sing" but a week after watching this I found out from you that the drinking a glass of water thing doesn't make my throat hurt after a concert. thanks man.

i have a few questions. lately ive been getting into older grunge music like soundgarden and chris cornell has i range that i wish i had. i dont know how to use me head voice or access it so i just use my chest voice and push. but during that i get a horrid crack/squeak sound. How do i stop the squeak? i am breathing in my diaphram, im tensing my side & rib muscles and drinking plenty of water. also when i sing i get light headed, whats going on???
as far as Dairy products, and this could work different for everyone but for me I can drink or eat all I want and still sing the same. Dairy is not bad for your throat but can cause mucus and flem which can make it uncomfortable to sing.
Alcohol however will effect you pretty good but you can drink lots of water after.
when I sing for a gig on any given night I go through at least 1 pitcher of water.

Not really, but depending of what you are trying to reach with your voice, they do change your voice, but also hurt your lungs, maybe limiting your breathin' power.
Smoking isn't good or bad for singing. It makes reaching some notes more difficult, and others easier, or none of the above and scratch the hell out of your throat; depending on your own voice. But it can also cause a lot of phlegm and does decrease your lung capacity.
Regardless, smoking is bad for your health period.
If you don't smoke already then don't start, not worth it.
English isn't my first language so i don't have a great accent, would you recommend me to start in english or in spanish wich is my first language and then move on?
what are some good tips to improve my vocals, my style is of pete loeffler from chevelle.
