bowie overrated? with that wealth of material? versus a one trick pony? maybe compared to scot walker , Peter gabriel or Michael Rother? and even then. Go choke on your sweater, indie hipster fool
The visual movement doesn't coordinate well with the music. This seems to be an extremely amateur effort compared with things like Wehinger's Ligeti visualization. In addition, the song is mediocre. David Bowie is way overrated. Sam Prekop is a talented composer and musician, and his own stuff is much better.
this is such a beautiful song! hey, pls check out our band, we are still on the process of figuring the right tune for creating our own ambient music.. just type, "jam experiment video file 3 (feb 2, 2010)" .. you can also check our past videos on my account.. leave a comment, thanks!
actually i think there two version of the Reynolds part in This is Skateboarding, cause some says he got jimmi hendrix -burning of the midnight lamp, and others says its sound and vision - the sea and cake.
I heard this version before the original and was totally mesmerized by how peaceful it is. david bowie is a genius and these guys do a fantastic job remaking his classic.
Agreed. I've been listening to Sea and Cake since their inception and I dig most of what they have to offer, but they rarely if ever have done a remake. And this one is good. If I was forced to pick one version over the other...it'd be damn close, but I'd probably have to go for Bowie's version.
even in their heyday, i was never a big sea and cake booster... however this is a nice treatment of bowie, even if they chose to ditch one of my favorite parts of the song- how the drums assert themselves more and more...
There's a few covers of this song by "bigger" bands like RHCP and Franz Ferndaid here on Youtube. This is the ONLY cover that is worth listening to outside of the original version, since it actually has fun and tries to go in a bit of a different direction from the original.
If anyone likes The Sea and Cake and/or David Bowie, you should look for The Sea and Cake's cover of Talking Heads' Naive Melody (This Must Be The Place). That's a very good cover, they held true to the original while also making it their own. The true test of a good cover is to meet those qualifications. :D
We all know its off Reynolds' sections on Emerica extra's. But has anyone on here seen 'Leisure'? the Manchester skate video by Stu Bentley? It was on that before Reynolds used it.
i remember these guys since the late 80s when they were called SHRIMPBOAT...now the singer is my next door neighbor who comes to some of my art openings every so often(I run an art gallery).
Four Corners was in the Habitat Video (Mosaic I think) and Mark Appleyard skated to the Arguement in Transworld's I.E. back in '01. Luckily for me, I was skating and watching these videos back then. Got me into some excellent music. Some.
love the video, amazing song... sspectacular band... but is this their official video? because i don't get to catch any piece of the sea and cake here in the philippines at all except thru the internet...
Gotta love this track. It's so joyful and compelling. I'd totally use this in some program coz this isn't really one for soundtracks. The ironic thing is that this isn't the greatest audiovisual experience I could imagine. I would personally visualize this with warmer colors and leave out dark colors altogether. Not that the video sucks, but to me, this sounds warmer and brighter and happier than this, that's all.

Better than bowie's. the harmonies, the keys and the overall feel of the song - just pure bomb. I was disappointed upon listening to the original.
