  • Keep it up. I always find your videos interesting and well made

  • Hey Norm, this MAY sound stalkerish but do you live in or near the Upper Peninsula of Michigan? That Gamestop looks like the one thats in the city I live in.

  • My aunt has one of these in a odd case with 10 games, bomberman 2 and felix the cat were 2 of them which are rare. She almost never uses it so one day i hope its mine

  • Selling one of these on ebay. Item number 180813555006

  • I love my top loader. It works so much better than the first model.

  • i want one!!!!

  • Little Nemo!!!

  • Actually, the last NES game ever released was Sunday Funday by Wisdom Tree in 1995. Otherwise, I found this video very informative.

  • @Versa51

Sunday Funday was unlicensed though and unlicensed stuff isn't acknowledged by any business nor should it. Did you know that there were super mario WORLD cartridges among countless other unlicensed hack stuff throughout the 90s for the NES. So yeah, unofficial products aren't really reliable, accurate or worthy the inclusion in any list of games.

  • 49.99 is cheap? Dude you need to look at the old perspective, back then people had a very small income. So 49.99 is equivalent to 109.99. In the 1950's, a burger at MacDonalds cost 5 cents, I can find 5 cents off the streets today.

  • @SNESFanboy64 um this was made in the 90s. not 50s. and its cheaper than the super nintendo wicth was 199.99

  • @SNESFanboy64 What are you talking about? You're talking as if this console was released in the 1950's. 49.99 for that console was cheaper than a Power Rangers: Titanus toy that was 59.99 at the KB toys purchased from and that was a motorized toy! Also why bring up a McDonald's hamburger price from the 50's, it's irrelevant, if anything you should use the year in question. In 93 a cheeseburger was $.69, compare that to today's $1.00 but that's only $.31 in difference, and isn't worth mentioning.

  • The last game ever made for the NES was called 'Sunday Funday', an unlicensed bible(ish) based game. AVGN said it in his Bible Games 2 review. (I think, it was Bible Games 2, it might be just Bible Games).

  • a interesting idea but i see these videos as poorly executed at best. there is a lot of filler, for example this video, having the clips of random people who at a VIDEO GAME STORE identifying a freaking NES...also he uses the most basic of basic information with a lot of these videos, example being this nes 2, he gave a few reasons why it "failed" but it was never intended to be a smash hit, nintendo knew the nes was all but done, also everyone and their grandma had a nes...there are many other

  • @randomM4ge issues with these videos.the megaman video wasted so much time till he got to the meat of the video, what people actually thought they would be getting, the point lol. it was a bitover the half way point when he started to give the info, and in the end he hardly explained anything other then the guy who made it, the japan to english translations and explained how the created used was inspired by music, but he starts off the video sayin how much digging he actually did for this video

  • The color got fucked up

  • Wasnt there a version of the nes 2 that had AV.

  • @RunTitan09 Only in Japan

  • I definitely prefer to use the NES 2 over the original NES. Although I will admit, as was mentioned in the video, that RF being the only output is a big drawback..

  • the number on the back of the nes top loader is still available. Its nintendo's number for troubleshooting tips for their systems. They still will help with the nes!!!

  • Why is it when he talks about the beginning of a system, he shows late games(like dkc)

  • i bought one today but it wont work on my tv lol it worked on the tv in the store i have the right inputs?

  • what the hell was that robot?

  • @CobraVegeta ROB, a toy that came with one of the NES bundles, basically it worked with two games (gyromite and Stack up) and it "played" the game with you. It was abandoned quick.

  • What is the theme used for the intro credits? I'm guessing something final fantasy...

  • @CobraVegeta Smash Bros

  • If you have seen AVGN's pong review you probably know NES wasn't the first home console by Nintendo

  • The NES 2 was never released in the UK. I think that was due to Sega being more successful.

  • The should make a NES 3

  • To be honest with you,I don't know how to forget the console is on other then turning off the TV.

  • wait how did you get your game genie to work on the top loader?

  • it was not the first home video game console from nintendo!!!!!

the first videogame system was nintendo pong from 1997!

    IN YOUR FACE!!!!!!!!!

  • @FPSzweden

    1977 not 97

  • the first 4 NES2s I encountered had the same A/V connector as the SNES. I wish i could find one now.

  • Much lighter than the original? It must be SUPER light...

  • @Tomm0505 and much slimmer. SUPER slim haha

  • i heard some nes 2 have audio video cables

  • @thepunksclub21 Only MODDED ones.

  • @NESAtariSegaNerd what i went to say was some of the the nes 2 have rca cables but there more rare

  • @thepunksclub21 An RF cable IS an rca cable. It carries both Audio and Video.

  • I just picked up one with all the wires in decent shape with a zapper and dr. mario all for just for $5.00 at a flea market.

  • Comment removed

  • That's what I have, I went for years thinking that that was the original NES.

  • I got mine with 2 dogbone controllers the zapper and 6 games for $50

  • hay u should tell about link C:

  • I got one with tow nes controllers, castlevania, and the wires for 5 dollars from a friend

  • does it work with the origional controler?

  • @exacutor9 Yes I have a NES 2 and it works with either the dog bone controller or rectangular pad.

  • I got a top loader nes with 20 games for $10 today at a garage sale!!

  • i dont care how many times i blew into a nes cartridge, i would still rather have the original nes, with no video output and having to watch or play a game through a r f switch just plain sucked, R F converters are the worst connections to watch games, movies, or tv

  • You didn't even mention how the toploader can play European and Japanese titles.

  • "An adding machine?" ...Yea...

The NES 2 is awesome. It's great for collectors.

  • @ComicFreak1980 Ninja Gaiden trilogywas remade for snes

  • Is it worth 90$ USD

  • @Back2DaFuture98 No, it wasn't. It is now because of morons paying that much, so now everyone jacks the prices up.

  • the NES is better than the SNES cuz it has better games like Zelda, the Castlevania Trilogy, the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy the list goes on & I like your vids you always teach me something new.

  • @ComicFreak1980

A few of those were rereleased on the SNES though.

  • You seem to be forgetting the main reason to buy an nes 2 or top loader, Its region free which means you can play any game from any country, That AWESOME!

  • I dunno, I like the classic Toaster Box NES. If anything just for the AV hookup, and the classic. I'll replace the pin connectors as much as I want for 8 bucks a pop!

It's the classic! It just looks so nice not being so tall with the game (can put it in my small shelfs).

  • I got mine at a yard sale for $2!!! I already had one and made a quick turn around for $75!

  • I freakin love the NES 2. I know it's usually believed that it has worse picture than the original Toaster model, but I can get past that because of how awesome it runs. Also the lack of a lockout chip is niiiiice.

  • Im still on the hunt for one

  • @iwanabrawl did you check your garage? lol i found it in my garage.

  • A bootleg nintendo lmfao

  • I bought mine for $80, but it was originally $90 and the guy at the game store was nice enough to reduce it about $10 since I didn't have $90. It was Seattle though so that's why it was so expensive.

  • wasnt the first home console from nintendo

  • AVGN said that the last game ever made for the NES was Wisdom Tree's *Color Dreams* Sunday Funday.

  • @wolfenpony08 he didnt mention it because that game is not liscensed by nintendo

  • @dapillnow Oh yeah

  • Does the Nes top loader play games better then the orginal nes. Because before i start collecting nes games i want to know. I have an original nes but i have a problem that most people have. The games are sometimes impossible to work i don't think it's the cartridge i think it's just of the console it self. It flashes grey on and off when it does not work

  • 3:15 good luck finding one of those adapters without selling your first born.

  • it isnt nintendos first consol, it was 2 pong consols released in japan, yes iknow it thanks to avgn

  • @key099able no.they got a licence to disbirtute them in japan from atari. they didint make them

  • it isnt nintendos first consol, it was 2 pong consols released in japan

  • do a barrel roll !

  • "What you think this is?" "An adding machine?" LMAO

  • I NEVER had ogrinal NES or TopLoader, but russia(or wheater come from) copy PEGASUS Family Video Game

  • In your title screen what song is playing? Is it from Super Smash?

  • Norm, why doesi t take so long to make videos? Srsly, All your history is like this but it took shorter to make. anyways, great VIDEO!

  • I'm still interested in the front loader and getting each game with it's protective sleeve to protect it from dust, but I may get a top loader.

  • Can you play NES games on a Super Nintendo? please someone reply.

  • @victoneter No. The games have different pin sets and their shape is different enough that they wont fit in each others systems.

  • Since my original NES broke in 1993/4, I ended up getting a toploader. Foolishly, I traded it in for less that its value when I finally got a PS2 though.

I just left my Game Genie in my NES 2 all the time and swapped games on top of it.

I missed the AV hookup too, since I had a controller that plugged into the old audio jack and had a headphone jack on the controller.

  • it looks like a pair of pants

  • ''the boxie look is out' Ermmm Wrong...... The ps2 was a box shape. The x'Box' and the 360 is a box shape, The Wii is a box shape. Hell I think boxes are epic

  • @swinabc Actually, I believe Mr. Barr was more leaning towards the fact curves make the product look newer. He was right, around the same time the Genesis was redesigned and was much more rounder. The statement fits towards that period of time. It was just how it was then.

  • I didn't know about the Top Loader until I saw it on AVGN.

  • @zakiemon same here

  • @zakiemon me neither, it looks fuckin cool :)

  • @zakiemon thats the power avgn has. HE gets it right. not like this basterd. with boring videos and sloppy info, avgn is the way to go! fuck this guy.

  • @zakiemon same story

  • @zakiemon Me neither. I'll never know why he prefers the top loader to the regular one.

  • i wonder if it can make my color dreams games work, 20 years of neglect has left them unplayable on the normal nes.

  • @usedx115x yes it will work because there is no 10NES lockout chip.

  • wtf is the 3d donkey kong game in the title sequence?

  • @adamtocock donkey kong 64

  • @adamtocock 'Course! Thnx baybee!

  • WHAT!? the boxy look was AWESOME

  • 5:25 He has call of duty 4 modern warfare

  • @ps1tops4 Wow. U just watched the history of one of the best consles EVER and thats all u can think about?!

  • @XxTSUNAMISNIPERxX nah the best is pc consoles blow

  • Man, I just found one of these, for like $55 dollars, and bought it. It is awesome!

  • @bloodyrandi Me too. I just bought mine today for $54.99 in store credit. Somebody sold my local Disc Replay a dogbone controller so I asked if they could bundle it with the system and they did. I also got a dogbone controller for $5 a week before I saw this system on sale, so I got two controllers and the system and cables for $60. My local HPB store charges $139.99 for a NES 2 with 1 NES 1 Controller. I saved $80.00.

  • @WebVMan,

    Disc Replay is fuckin' sweet.

  • Argh.. I had totally forgotten about the red light... Man, how I hated it.. at the end, I just made my own folded cardboard/tape holder to push it and keep it down :0 lol

It really made my heart jump when I saw it.. Red lights are my mortal enemies >:(

  • the NES is also good. even thogh the pin flaw. you could buy new ones and it works a long time. my toploader is broken. also is my sega genisis 2. but i find out a way to make it work. for my toploader i take the pins and bend them to high. it kindof helps.

  • was it released in europe cos i havnt seen it anywhere

  • dkc ftw

  • i think i know that gamestop...is it located in travis airforce base?

  • Nes 2 is the best of the two for sure(i got 2), although I use the big grey box just as much. Usually if a game doesn't work in the box, ill pop it in the toploader and it always works, unless its the cartridge itself, ofcourse.

  • Wow I want that NES no blinking and blowing ! There is a God !

  • Wow now I know what NES I want ! The model 2 that dosent havr the cartrige blowing and blinking ! YAY !

  • you're wrong. the last game ever made for the NES was not Wario's woods it was Sunday funday and it was released in 1995 not 1994. But other than that great video!

  • @FinalFantasyFan12100 He was talking about licensed games.

  • @C4pri5un oh

  • @FinalFantasyFan12100 let me guess...got that info from AVGN?

  • @bmcj199 yeah. why?

  • @FinalFantasyFan12100 ..Just asking......just asking......

  • @bmcj199 I think he should do a Mario 64 review

  • @FinalFantasyFan12100 ...why? there's no reason.

  • @bmcj199 I just think it would be pretty cool if he did a review on it. that's all.

  • I love mine. My toaster tends to freeze in the middle of games.

  • I've been thinking about getting a top loader, I know a store where they sell it for $55. You know, I'd just really like to actually beat Contra some day and I can't do it cause my NES keeps taking a crap after the 2nd level.

So does the top loader being more consistent mean it doesn't turn off the game?

  • i wish i new that much about games

  • I do love my toploader as well.

  • the only downside of the top loader is since its so tiny you cant give it a hug like you could do with the original nes or the vectrex

  • @0M9H4X Yeah I know back in the 80's I used to sleep with my nes.

  • lol an adding machine

  • I love my top loader so much :)

  • There were a small few released with A/V out instead of co-axle cable. Extremely Rare.

  • wario's woods was the last licenecd nintendo game, the absolute last one was sunday fun day, released in 1995. a 3rd gen game released in the 5th gen.

  • @darkraitrainer590 Yes, I have Sunday Funday, which was released in mid 1995. BBut there have also been hundreds of homebrews and pirates since then, if you wanna check some out, go to Retrousb.com

  • Comment removed

  • I like the black guy

  • Was the NES 2 released in Europe? And if not, are there ways to use an American NES 2 on a pal tv and eu powersupply?

  • Hey man. just wanted to say awsome review. I remember the Top Loader. Was also wondering if you ever thought of doing a history thing on the FC Twin system? Because i would defenatly like to know more about it.

  • The NES was not Nintendo's first console.

  • @tonyAJ420 theoretically in america it was

  • @tonyAJ420 They did pong consoles first

  • Hey am i wrong or did u forget to mention that the NES 2 is able to read games from different countries such as japan. The original NES culd only read games from the country it was reelease on (US NES could only read US games)

  • @kingvideo4u Famicom games will not fit in a NES 2 without a converter.

  • he´s not doing the same as avgn. This guy just give us information, just like avgn, but this guy don´t review bad games or witha comic style. It´s different. The irate gamer...he does copied avgn.

  • 1:50 lol says the nintendo wii has only sold 20 million units lol when was this made?

  • @imbadatnames390 This video is from around 2007, when the Wii was somewhat new still.

  • Never blow into a game cartridge. Your breath is like acid to the connectors.

  • WOOT Remix of the Little Nemo "Mushroom Forest" song at the beginning! One of my favourite game tunes!

  • he looks just like my cousin

  • oh yea the top loader was much better than the original Nintendo entertainment system and i always noticed about the bending when putting the games and sometimes id put another game on top to hold it in place i would also get a q tip and put Windex and clean out the cartridges if they never worked correctly that always worked for me lol nice vid

    5/5

  • heyyyyy he copied AVGN at the begening of the video :p

  • @atomickid How?

  • @Starwing64 just watch the intro of AVGN Atari 5200 episode, you'll understand, it's not really a copy, but a reference ;)

  • @atomickid The only thing I see is the AVGN was reading Mario Mania in his intro, while the gaming Historian was reading The Ultimate History of Video Games in his intro. Is that the reference?

  • @Starwing64 i just think the intro of atari 5200 of avgn is in the same way than this intro ^^

  • @atomickid Now that I think about it they are very similar

  • @Starwing64 Ahah I was right, so ! XD

But it's a good thing, don't worry, your videos are cool too ^^

  • Too bad the NES slim flopped.

  • Itsmetails when he said last noes game he meant official

  • Im gonna get an NES 2 at yonkers flea market next sunday. I just love the NES.

  • @MeddleOnline i know! When I first started watching AVGN he popped a game into some kind of machine (later t be known as the top loader by me) and I said to myself: THAT THING LOOKS NOTHING LIKE AN NES, WHERE'S THE ORIGINAL NINTENDO!???

  • Wii sold 70million units not 20 and at 2009 it was 40 million units

  • @fatzy9ttuts Thats only because this video is from 2007-2008 when the wii was still somewhat new.

  • I still prefer the NES 2 and the Dogbone controller over the old NES mainly because there is no pin connections that break and the Dogbone doesn't hurt my thumbs and hand like the old rectangle NES controllers did and the Dogbones are in better condition when I find them over the other ones even though they sell NES controller clones that look like the real deal on the web now and there work like the old ones.

  • actually the last game for NES was sunday funday by wizdom tree i use to have it

    it was released 1995

  • it was not the first nintendo home console. It was color tv-game 6.

  • Know where I can get one for say $50?

  • @kramerguitarist ever hear of eBay?

  • wow you remind me of AVGN just without the Anger

  • Awesome sauce series

  • I remember when those first came out looking all over the place for them. Only to find no store even carried it.

  • brillant.

  • The Gaming Historian??? And for what is the Playstation? lol. :) Nice vid - looks like my livingroom; of cource without the useless Playstation.

  • Lol that would be cool if they made a NES HD or something

  • @SSBBmaster10 What if they remade the NES as a portable, but with EVERY NES game programmed in that you could choose? That would be AWESOME!

  • @jalalthedragonborn they do. theres emulator handhelds and a handheld that plays actuall nes cartridges
