Maybe it's the out of focus LP player, or the cat staring out the window - looking back into the 1980s? I wanna almost cry when I watch this - cry with the joy having lived and experienced this music - like many of us posting here - before any of us knew (but certainly felt) - what we all now know - how great this music truly was, is, and will always be.
Coowul. Love the version. Not heard it before. Like the cat. Bit worried about the lack of trousers. I mean, act as if you care, every now and then - people like it. And stop eating those Pot Noodles.
I love this song and I wanna carry it with me to my grave. Everybody listened to this song and band at my high school. Im glad they chose this band over justin bieber.
I met Matt in the Camden Palace one night and said how much I loved this song. Then added, it reminds me of great forgotten singles by Jethro Tull like Life's A Long Song. I thought he would punch me out (we'd just fought the punk wars it was 81/82) but instead he went Yes! Yes!Jethro Tull! and hugged me. We got very very drunk. Nice guy, great songwriter and thanks for this postng.
I just love this. Reminds me of when i was working in Ibiza in 1983 - the bar staff in my hotel used to play this all the time. Actually brings tears to my eyes!
Esta canción sonaba en México en 1984 en una estación llamada Rock 101 (me parece que el unico lugar donde podias escuchar esta pieza maestra) en los tiempos de Luis Gerardo Salas). Saludos a todos los rockcientounicos :-D
Viva el New wave retro y alternativo. Saludos desde México.
I am from Mexico and had one piece of this version in an old tape of 1984 jealously saved for years without know nothing about the author(s) of this masterpiece song. I love New wave rare rock/alternative retro music from an old extincted radio station called Rock 101.
This song looks like a song of WIRE TRAIN (Skills of summer) even when the voices do not fit at all. After all, this is an awesome song i can feel it in my skin.
Well, this version was the original version here in Brazil, 20 years ago, but every time that I try to get it in MP3 I couldn't find, only the other version with no flute, tks for posting! Your cat is cute!
Pretty kitty. I love cats. I have 3. this cat reminds me of Little man. This song reminds me of my childhood. This is one of my moms favorite songs. I grew up liking it at well.
I think I saw that cat last weekend in Ipswich. Its a right cheeky thing it was going through some dustbins. You would not have thought he would even know this song.
Check out Kerwin James Jazz Funeral in New Orleans on Youtube- "Just a closer walk with Thee" , and you may need two songs played at your funeral. I need both of these...
wow havent heard this version so long..! almost forgotten it-- not sure if I like this better or not, but I miss the piano in the other version. The guitar is more cool in this version!
I remember listening to this song on WVUM (the voice - 90.5 FM) at the Univ. of Miami when I was in college back in the '80's. Haven't heard this long version since then, still sounds great after all these years.
First time i've heard this long original version. On balance I prefer the album version with the J. Holland piano break though this is very interesting. The original 7" is and will remain a classic song and is my favourite version. I bought it in a record market for 30p 25 years ago, a bargain.
back in themid to late 80s, this version was the only one played in Los Angeles on KROQ fm. It took me 3 years to find this version, i finally did out of germany.. lol
to me, this is the only version that sounds the best!
this is a class act. love the 12 inch mixes first deiscovered on a Canadian import 12" back in 1990.cheers for posting it- takes me back to smoke filled room ina freind's flat (also in Edinburgh)

Were you singing along? 'Uncertain emotions... ' Of course you were ; ) .
Rochester, New York, in the 80's, had 3 alt. rock stations, all played songs the others didn't. Took it for granted. But they all played The The.
Thanks!
