Ahhhh great song.... I can picture in my head dancing to this with the great women's dresses they had back then.... That would have been the bomb.....!!!!!
@jmpp678 i love this music, im in jazz band, i always wanted to play this song, see i play trumpet, so if i knew where to get this music id learn it, from being in jazz band, it opened my views on music than just death metal and heavy metal, i love louis prima, ive been listening to him for a while now :) and tony bennett :)
@hogsqueal36936 I watched the film last night, I heard prima on the soundtrack but not this song, gotta say I didn't really like the film - Scorcesse creates some of the least likable characters in cinema
@busessuck1 r u talking about casino? this song waz in casino, that movie is one epic movie, in my opinion i think scorcesse creates the best mob movies, EVER! lol
@cyberslick18 yeah... because what the fuck can't you learn about a guy from readin the thoughts of some hack who makes money on a dead guy by publishing a "biography" badmouthing him
He was a vegas performer not a church minister... and people were cool with beating your wife til like the late '70s
Delve into the personal life of many musicians and actors and you will find similar things. These people should never be looked up to. Just enjoy their music for what it is.
if you added up all the somewhat talent that every single pop so called "musician" has it would still only be a tiny fraction of how amazing louis prima was along with every other genius back in those days benny goodman, gene krupa, and louis armstrong to name a few.
@miladynana I was born in 1934.....heard the big bands music played on the radio every day, and I especially loved Dixieland Jazz. Louis Prima and his wife (Keely Smith) were big on television too. Lot's of fun dancing to the music....especially the "jitterbug"....just making it up as we went along!
i acctually wasnt bor that time. im 14 years old and i by the look of it. really like those day better then these days.i mean the music was a lot better u could became a star in a gip that wath my dad says he also said that if u had a talent that you were famousin these days no star has a talent except for some of them. and im talking abou music stars. movie stars. all of them famous people. I HATE THESE DAYS i see my dad and mom work hard and they bouth have a talent!im a 5star clarinetplayer
Sorry Bud, Louis penned this great in 1936. Look on wikipedia & you will see the original album label (Brunswick). I have it & it was played by Louis & his New Orleans Gang (Very first recording) It was the recorded by Benny Goodman & his orchestra on July 6, 1937 & arranged by Jimmy Mundy for Goodman. This is fact & I would put money on it.
I did mean to sound harsh JP. A lot of people did not know that Louis wrote this classic. Of course, it is more closely associated with Benny Goodman since it was a theme song for him. Back then before television, the bands had a theme song so the folks listening to the radio knew who was on. This was Benny's song
No worries at all, it was actually my friend that told me what to say I didn't know either way; no offense taken, now we both know who originally wrote it so that's good. Thanks
Louis Prima was to Jazz at the time as Eminem is to Hip Hop now? So you mean to say that Prima was talented, incredibly popular with his contemporary audience, and hugely influential to those who came after him? Because if that's what you're saying, this is a fair statement. Otherwise, rfaonl, Duh. Just, duh.
Prima was more talented & popular than a lot of people. He meant a lot to many folks out there, especially the Italian population. Any Italian that did well was a hero in our house. greats like Prima, Bruno Sammartino,Primo Carnera, Domenic DeNucci & many others.
They only way to reproduce most of the solo parts is to learn improve... That's what most of the big band jazz/swing is about. (unless you were in Glenn Miller's band, then you played it as it was recorded on the album)

I always thought Louis Prima was a really cool guy until I delved into his personal life.
He was an alcoholic, regularly beat his wife, and was a notorious loan shark victim, and didnt take care of his kids at all.
He died a lonley, angry man.
I love his music, but after really researching him, I can't say that I respect the man.

I'd like to say "those were the days" but I was born into the 'ipod generation'
I love my techno generation but the only time I regret when I was born is when I listen to true music like this.
We've come a long way since then. Now, music is cheap.
...I'd love to dance to this, ah the energy!! :D
