  • how they pulled it off i dont know

    but they did it

  • Although I do prefer the Sigur Rós original a million times, I do have respect for this cover.

  • this is better than the original. really.

  • @jokez112 No it's not. Brilliant cover! but not better than Sigur Rós - nothing could be...

  • this is one of the most beautiful combination of sounds on the face of the earth. a wonderful cover.

  • Nice edgy version..but sigor ros vesion is more emotional.

  • It has taken balls to attempt to sing in Icelandic, some funny pronunciations but its actually not a bad attempt.

I'm pretty sure that the 3rd line of the 3rd verse is "Ég anda eins fast og ég get" (I breathe as hard as I can) which makes more sense for the next line, rather than "Ég lambdi eins fast og ég get" as "lambdi" is in the past tense so the two lines together are in a past tense which doesn´t fit.

    Just sayin... :Þ

  • this cover really isn't good. it sounds like some emo cover, but i have to give them an A for even attempting it. it takes balls to sing in another language

  • I preffer the original, but this is so beautiful..

  • 118 People Don't Know Music.

  • nice cover but the original is way better!

  • @MrAlfred1995 Oww, never knew that he made up his own language in sigur ros songs. probably not all but in certain songs only?

  • @skinislam on von, ágætis byrjun and takk, jónsi sang most songs in icelandic but a few of the songs were sung in 'hopelandic'. all of the vocals ( ) are in hopelandic. it's not an actual language by definition, it's rather a form of gibberish vocals that fits to the music and acts as another instrument. jónsi likens it with what singers sometimes do when they've decided on the melody but haven't written the lyrics yet. hopelandic got its name from first song which jónsi sang it on, hope (von).

  • I kind of like this more than the original.

  • jajajajajajja que bueno el video

  • Not listened to We Are Scientists much, but this IS a good cover.

  • sometimes not understanding the words is better, sometimes covers are better, sometimes music videos are as good as the song itself, this is one of those times.

  • does he sing it with the correct accent of that icelandic language?

  • @skinislam Doubt it. :)

  • @skinislam Jonsi(the sigur ros singer) sings in his own made up language-the words dont actually mean anything, and leave the listener to make up his or her own mind about the nature of the song!

  • @MrAlfred1995 Not on this record he doesn't. It's Icelandic.

  • @skinislam sorry, my bad, not all of the lyrics in this song are made up-some are in icelandic, and I dont know whether he sings in the right accent-sorry about

  • I don't really care for "We are Scientists" but I must give them props for covering such a beautiful song :) and singing in a completely different language XD

  • @ 3:40 mark - did the worlds most interesting man knock the women down and then runaway??

  • love these lyrics.

  • Peaceful and awesome. (:

  • Ah, to be that age again... and everyone else has said it, but great cover!

  • My favorite band covering my other favorite band.... this just is too much greatness for my mind to process

  • @ak121deadlock Yeeeaah! You´re cool man =D

  • @ak121deadlock Exactly, it is incredible, Death Cab for Cuitie covering Stone Roses, Killers= Morissey, Blur=Elvis Costello....the list is like AWESOME..BTW m a tad spiritual ,religious freak and don't believe in Coincidence, so its like SACRED.....but i really

hate those Prim and Proper, Jesus Christ looking charaters @Creed, Nickelback.....i threw up everytime and blame the Lord for Torturing me with their brand of bugger music.....

  • @daennewarhols Awe really? I've never heard those covers :O. I'll check them out though!

And it's ok no one likes creed, or nickleback......

  • @ak121deadlock

that would be swell, if you want i can mail u a whole lot of them,it`s totally wicked.....

  • @daennewarhols Ah that would be awesome! If your emailing them my email is akopetman@yahoo.com

  • pretty good attempt but still a bit funny:P (the icelandic)

  • HAHHAHA i love this x'd

the icelandic is actually better then i thought it would be ..

just have a huge smile on my face after listening to this :D

  • i dont have a clue what hes saying, but i looooveee it ;3

  • If both songs were bubble bath product,

I'd label the original "soothing", the cover "rejuvenating".

the piano vs. guitar mixes things up, still sounds nice.

ballsy to take on this song.

  • i do speak Icelandic, and yet again, i love his accent.

    GREAT cover.

  • As you can probably tell i am blatenty not icelandic but fuck this sounds good to me :D

  • is a good cover. thanks! with northamerican accent, yes, but, is not an obligation to mak a imitation of icelandic. is a good cover. dot.

  • really nice cover! Is it available to buy anywhere?

  • The music is good, but his singing isn't too favorable. You need an Icelandic accent... in whcih he doesn't have. It sounds way too harsh.

  • love this song.. everyone has to pass through the phase of being into this song for a while..mine has lasted years.... hear it almost two times a day

  • this version is good. but i like the original better.

  • in acoustic woow :D good(Y)

  • Great job on the cover ;) well done buddy

  • Wow, his voice gives me shivers.

    I'm in love.

  • No way dude, this version souds like pop ... an american won´t ever sing islandic and do it with the feeling that Jonsi does ... just hear it ... u.u .. .to play the same notes and melody with the same lyrics doesn´t mean it will make me feel what i feel with the original .. just think about it.

  • @Metalisforus I agree, its impossible for ANYONE to cover this band and bring out the same emotions that you get when you listen to the real version, but this is a good cover. You can't deny that. :)

  • @Metalisforus anyone now can do a cover. is just a cover!

  • omg :X:X:XX: dudes respect respect to sigur ros and to you guies hoo made this cover :X Beautifull

    :X

  • Great cover... clean strings... nice vocals... justified harmony.

  • Why is there so much empty space at the end...? Shorter vid = shorter buffering time.

  • in the shop is that sigur rós singer?

  • @Mxralles Yes

  • @Mxralles Yah that's Jonsi :) And the man that comes out with his pipe is part of the band, too. I like the way they have little snippet parts in their videos :)

  • what the!... what language is this xD i didnt realize it wasnt english until like half way when i started paying attention to it and wondered what they were saying hahahah

  • @Pepefromthebario Icelandic.

  • @Pepefromthebario its icelandic

  • @Pepefromthebario Icelandic and Hopelandic

  • Comment removed

  • @parnassus87 It isn't supposed to sound like Sigur Ros, then there would be no point in doing a cover...

  • The Icelandic spoken in this vid actually not that bad.

  • very emotional =] lol but truely amazing at the same time ♥xx

  • dolce , già beati chi sa essere bambini sempre !!! la vita è...

  • I mean, this wasn't really meant to be a guitar song, but You DO work it. Thank you.

  • when sigur ros play tihs song it is more than just the 4 members of sigur ros it takes at least 15 people to playh this song the way it is meant to be played

  • And the horns and the xylophone sorry but the sigur ros orginal is way better

  • I miss the piano, Kjartan from sigur ros completely owns the song on the piano, then the explosion of drumming by orri at the end is so organic and the vocals from jonsi well need i say more, good cover but sigur ros are on another level

  • is this song about volcano's?;-)

  • It's cool that WAS know all the words in Icelandic to this song.

  • @Eoinposse i heard in some interview that keith just learnt all the phonetic's for the song and can probably never sing it again.

  • I must say, the guitar really does the song justice. I really love the sound of the guitar. I must say, I do love the original piano but really the guitar gives it a new feel with out straying away from the meaning or feel. I guess i can say the same about the singing or the cover itself. This is what makes a good cover, dubbing or translation. It's not as if its as good as the original but if it can stand on its own and project the same meaning with the same or even new emotion. Good Job!

  • doesn't even come close. way to turn a beautiful song into a stupid emo crybaby one

  • I once believed this song to be uncoverable.

    i've been proven VERY wrong.

  • Both versions of this song make me want to cry. So beautiful.

  • im loving this:)

  • icelandic pronunciation is hard. I love languages and can usually pick them up easily, but those little throaty nuances in the icelandic language are realy difficult to master.

  • I love this cover! Where can I get a copy of this song? :) Thanks for posting!

  • the fan in me says itunes, the scoundrel in me says btjunkie....get it there at 320kbps

  • @eilidh2005 Thank you Scoundrel! :P

  • Made me tear :')

  • I like the cover, I just don't like the main singer's voice.

  • Sigur Rós is The best band in the world ( enda frá íslandi ) and you guys coverd it pretty good and you sing it in icelandic and you are not from iceland so thats a plus and a nice job you did with the picking on the guitar :)

  • I like the guitar. I give this guy credit for trying. He even had trouble when he lowered the octave hehe.

  • very nice

  • a difficult band to cover, sigur ros have a huge 'purist' following! probably because their music is nothing like anything else! but as an adoring fan of the original, i must say i think this is very pretty!

  • Nikdy nezapomenu Blaničko:,-)

  • ofcourse nowhere near the original song, but still a very nice cover done by a very nice band :D

  • do better

  • I appreciate the effort in trying to speak Icelandic caus hey, I wouldn't be able to do any better, but it's so american!

  • bravo to the guy trying to speak icelandic...very big struggle...compliments for the brave and the respect tributed to the original authors...very artistic behaviour....

  • This is a pretty good cover of the song.

  • it was a good effort, not far off the quality of the original, of course i still prefer sigur ros :P

  • haha the icelandic in this !!

  • i dont like it..

  • You have every right to not like it, heh.

  • this sucks compared to sigur ros.

  • enjoyed the guy trying to speak icelandic :)

take it from icelander.. pretty good job m8

  • those lyrics are wrong in the description mate

  • @Sylvanranger that is unhelpful, unless you plan on telling us how!

  • @ xopenguin vindurinn is correct which means "The wind" also it's "ég anda eins fast og ég get" which means I breathe as hard as I can, also it is "hlaupandi inní í okkur" as opposed to "hlaupandi í okkur"

I hope I was of some help and I appreciate your comment, you were right I was unhelpful.

    Sylvanranger

  • 5 stars guys, I like it a lot :) Well done!

  • Honestly, covers that are just mere copies of the original bore me to death. Luckily this isn't one of those. It is much more quiet than the original, it doesn't have a piano and the vocals are just amazing, since Icelandic is very hard to pronounce (let alone really speaking it ;))

We Are Scientists definitely did a good job on this one. They kept close enough to the original but went far away enough from it to make it somehow unique. I like it. :)

  • This is exactly why I love it :) They managed to get the perfect balance.

  • love We Are Scientists

    sweet cover choice

    good cover

  • Nice! Beautiful Cover!

  • i think this is actually really good i mean its hard enough singing in a different language but singing sigur ros in which the lead has an AMAZING voice yea its difficult and i think this band did a good job i mean no its not sigur ros obviously but it is good

  • this was first aired live on the bbc live lounge on radio 1 no matter wot u say it took sum balls n yes not the same as the original but isnt that 2 easy better try 2 put ur own emotion in especially wen its in a foreign language.

  • First off: Excellent cover.

When I saw the lyrics translated, I was thinking "Hey! A decent band taking a stab at an incredible song? In English? (Don't get me wrong, part of why I love Sigur Ros is the fact that I can't understand the kyrics) I'm all for that!" It wasn't translated, obviously, but the different accent was definitely something to hear!

Also, replacing piano with guitar was odd, but I think it worlked altogether.

  • Scientists with memory strategism of conflicting or harming the brain or memory under arrest.

  • get a life haters. this is a good cover!

  • its good. But not sigur ros Good.

  • Well, it obviously doesn't rock nearly as much as the original version, but i had really good time listening to the accent!^^ I nearly laughed my ass off, and i don't even speak icelandic XD

    cute...

  • Very good! I love his voice, crisp and melodic with the sound which swirls with it. It is a great combination. I admit it is not the same as Sigur Ros but I really like it.

  • Good effort. They obviously wanted to try singing in another language ... fair play.

  • speaking icelandic myself, i love hearing the accent :D

  • @rebelminus2 We Are Scientists are american... or do you mean the lyrics?

  • @alexxross what i ment was that im an icelander and the original song is sung in icelandic by icelanders, and that "We Are Scientists" are american and therfore speak with an american accent

  • @rebelminus2 That's cool that you are Icelandic! What a beautiful interesting language!

  • great fucking song, ande fuck all of you for talking shit! sigur ros and we are scientist fuking rock!

  • For real, I'm loving this cover.

  • Your thinking of Hopelandic, a made up language comprised of all the rules of and sounds of Icelandic. One of their albums is entirely in Hopelandic, but not this one.

  • Not old english, it's just a mad eof language that jonsi uses, more vocals as an instrument, not just lyrics...brilliant huh

  • I thought they didnt use proper words, i thought it was all made up phonetics... and that the actually interpretation is open to anything.... or am i just being stupid?

  • no that was only on the first few albums i think..() mostly

  • but Takk all had real lyrics

  • the album () was recorded in gibberish, the band called it Volenksa, or hopelandic, think it was named after the song Von. (icelandic for hope)

they use volenska on a few odd songs on the other albums, that and English in two songs.

    booyah.

  • @warbo666

You are, its not hopelandic, its Icelandic in this song. Look it up.

  • I approve of this cover. The pronounciation is bad, of course, but seriously...

...WHAT DID YOU EXPECT? They're from freaking New York! Also, a song should NEVER be judged from linguistics. This a cute acoustic cover of a great song. Doesn't do shit wrong. It's a lot more modest than the original, and it suits the song. 'Nuff said.

  • That's complete horseshit, and I laugh at you. This was a spur of the moment thing WAS did as a cover on the side, with a Icelandic woman teaching them the PHONETICS of the lyrics the same night as they recorded it. Just an acoustic cover of a beautiful song that really does nothing wrong, other than being made by people not 'lucky' enough to be of the ethnicity of the original authors. WAS are beyond awesome, and this version is adorable, modest and not bad at ALL!

    That is all.

  • NO COMENT......ISTINMA.....!!!!!!

  • Damn it they seriously ruined a classic.

  • @SnakeSkin950 agreed

  • you really just can't get better then sigur ros... but their hearts are in it :)

  • If some of this song is in Volenska, how come all of the lyrics have an English translation in the info?

  • @R0flood nobody likes a smartarse:)

  • @TheSicInMe no, I'm seriously wondering.

everyone's going on about Volenska, but in the info it looks like it must all be in Icelandic..?

  • I love the way he pronounces "en ég stend alltaf upp" like "o ér stonn asjtol ró!" or something like that. xD

  • hey rotta, væri til í að sjá þig syngja á kínversku alveg flawless...

  • The pronunciation is so terrible it's amusing<3

  • @Skomakarn what do you expect he's british, fair play for trying though i say,, it's very hard to cover Sigur Ros, but yet again why would anyone want to cover Sigur Ros, they're amazing.

  • They're American, actually! The guys who made this cover...

  • ... the accent. ;x

  • fuck these chads and all the other bands who ripped off cap'n jazz for their band name.

  • It's not Cap'n Jazz they got the name from. If you'd done your homework, you'd know. Also, show some respect! We Are Scientists is great bunch of musicians, just making excellent rock.

  • Actually, I emailed the douche bags about 3 years ago asking why they ripped off capn jazz just like so many others. And they said regardless of taking the name they respect tim blah blah blah. capn jazz >> we are scientists doesn't make sense, the shits not even close. And they're covering sigur ros? cmon! Its like they're trying to prove to everything that their music has depth by ripping off everything that actually does.

  • 'Heathen! How dare thee speak the name of Christ in this unholy place? Atone for thy sins or face the burning stake, son of Satan!'

Well, can't argue with the sources. Now tell me why I should hate We Are Scientists. Is it A. because they pay tribute to a band they like with their band name or is it B. paying tribute to Sigur Ros with a cover of their song, thereby spreading the Sigur Ros fame? Or C. because you're a die hard Sigur Ros fan, and NOONE should ever compare themselves to your Gods?

  • terrible...

  • they shouldn't have covered this.

    Nothing compared to Sigur ros

  • Totally agree with you, some songs should just be left alone

  • It´s Icelandic. I understand every word of it, Vonlenska/Hopelandic on the other hand makes no sense, just jibberish.

  • omg this is brill x

  • Definately a solid cover! but i still prefer the original to this as it is much more powerful!

  • where do i get this?

  • Radio 6 ftw

  • Iceland ftw íslendingar rokka feittast og þið eruð geðveikir

Good job on the cover guys

  • it really annoys me that people call it hopelandic instead of vonlenska. hopelandic is only the literal translation, its only called vonlenska because von is the first song they used it on. if they had used it on Með suð í eyrum would we call it with-a-buzz-in-our-ears-landic, no we wouldnt because its sounds stupid, just like hopelandic does!

  • funny the band call it hopelandic aswell

  • It's an English translation... everyone knows the real term, its just easier for us.

  • great cover, this makes me wanna learn how to play acousic guitar, just so i can play this song.

  • For that very reason, you should never learn to play the guitar.

  • This reminds me of my grandparents.

    and the movie "up"

  • Just to clear some things up. I'm Icelandic and a big fan of Sigur Rós. They do sing some songs in "Hopelandic" which is some kind of gibberish, most of those songs come from the album (). This song (coming from the album "Takk" - means Thanks) however is in Icelandic and I can easily hear what this guy who made this cover is saying. Nicely done.

  • well you's have THE GREATEST band in the world by quite a distance with sigur ros. they are EPIC. listen to all their music now

many other good bands in iceland? want to give them a try. thanks

  • I was wandering just that but couldn't find any that were mainstream and from Iceland. However, here are a few bands that i find to come close to the Ros'! : Mogwai, god is an astronaut and Explosions in the sky :)

  • exactly what i thought. i love EITS and sigur ros and their ability to provide the perfect ambience for quiet nights

  • im not icelandic but im learning it and i cant hear what he's singing aswell

    Bless Bless!

  • Comment removed

  • they sing icelandic, just the added gibberish icelandic called hopelandic into the background for effect, get your facts straight buddy.
