I think with Andre they had hoped he'd be well enough to compete and it was up to him. So if he could, great. If not, send in a Nasty Boy. But keep in mind, the match is usually booked weeks in advance. So what was Andre's role going to be? If Knobs replaced Andre, that would have been a late entry into the match. Could Vince have wanted Andre to win the Rumble. Much in the same way he had Studd win in 89? One last win before his health goes? Maybe Hogan wasnt meant to win 2 years in a row?
Buddy Rose was originally scheduled to be part of the Rumble according to WWF magazine. He was replaced by Shane Douglas I believe. Tito Santana had actually left the WWF after Survivor Series but returned a week or so before the 91 Rumble. He replaced Honky Tonk Man who left.
Big John Studd should have entered the 91 Rumble before retiring from wrestling seeing him & if andre the giant had made it to the rumble that would have been a priceless moment to watch....
Demoltion, LOD, The Rockers, Orient Express, hell even Power & Glory how I miss these real tag teams instead of single stars uniting to form a tagteam nowadays...they should just retire the tag teams already and bring the hardcore championship back ... what a disgrace for the previous tag team champs
Warrior has his belt on backwards, and he's talking as if he's in a hurry and can't wait to be done!!....It was weird seeing Undertaker actually laughing!!!
How come the '91 Royal Rumble was on a Saturday night?
And I know originally that Honky Tonk Man was supposed to be in the Rumble match, but he left the WWF. And I think Andre the Giant was supposed to be in it, but he was too injured.
@DukeofColumbia that wasnt the only rumble to be held on a saturday night 3 years later royal rumble 1994 was the second & last rumble to be held on a saturday as well
tonshaad1230.........you said my top 5 royal rumbles, then you listed 6 events, one of which doesn't exist because it never happened (Royal Rumble 87).
WWF Royal Rumble My top 5: 1. Royal Rumble 87 2. Royal Rumble 88 3. Royal Rumble 89 4. Royal Rumble 90 5. Royal Rumble 91 6. Royal Rumble 92 The all time worst royal rumbles were: Royal Rumble 93-Royal Rumble 2007 (Except The Undertaker's Win); 2007-present rumble sucked. 1999: Vince? like seriously? 2001: Austin? Like WTF! He hardly did anything in the match! Kane literally DESTROYED the whole Event, but they can't let a good gimmick win =/
@tonshaad1230 oh yea, what was your favorite part of the royal rumble '87? I might have to call into question the validity of this list. You like the earlier events because you're just a Hogan and Warrior mark.
Wish they would move pay-per-views back to Saturday nights again. Those were always a lot more fun when you didn't have to get up for school or work the next day.
@dgh82 Unfortunately no lol. The school year in our region started absurdly early. To give you an idea, Hog Wild 96 aired the Saturday after we started back, and Road Wild 1997 came on 4 days before our first day back. Of course, if you will recall, most years Summerslam aired after the Road Wild events. I think 1997 was the only Summerslam I remember airing on a weekend before we were actually back in school!
I like how they color-code the babyfaces (Blue) and heels (Red)

Dusty Rhodes kinda looks like some fat old lady you'd see driving one of those power scooters in the Wal Mart parking lot.

Honky Tonk Man left the WWF a couple of weeks before this event and was replaced with nasty boy Brian Knobbs.
Andre the giant couldn't wrestle anymore, due to his giantism, and I believe Tito Santana took his place.

@stone85 thanks for the info . . . . my guess is they did the Rumble on a Saturday night to avoid conflicting with the Super Bowl.
