  • I first descovered the four tops in rebecca's night club in Brum.. I loves dancing to them, they were my true love of Mowtown music..R.I.P. Levi xx

  • Man Levi sang the Heck out of this Song!!!!!!

  • This song ws released in April(or August)1970 as Motown 1170(on Motown's Motown Record Label)

  • I was looking for photography of still water.....this seems like a music album. I have seen one at PosterPie site... Anyone can help me to get more photos like that. Just Google PosterPie to know what kind of more photos I am looking for.....Thanks in advance.

  • Motown had a stable of stars...well they had to be nurtured and trained but the Four Tops came into the company with professionalism and expertise AND experience. But once the Motown sound hit them they became MASTERS at singing a song. All four were unigue but its Levi Stubbs growling vocals that made the group the best. RIP Levi, Obie, and Lawrence.

  • Sweeet !!

  • great song

  • this song right here...right here?...was the jam!!!

  • my favorite group while i was in elementary school (8th grade). use to wear out all of the four tops 45's. r.i.p. levi.

  • this is the best easy going calm music nice and easy....

  • The fabulous Four Tops - love every thing they did. This is a special favorite of mine though. What a fabulous machine was "Motown." So much incredible talent. I cannot imagine living in a time when I would not have been so aware of all this talent. Their music will live on because quality lasts. They were at the Top of the Heap. Thanks for this post.

  • The only thing I don't like about this song is that its only 1 verse :(

  • was store between washington and randolph record shop

  • I almost got fired from my job in 1970 when this album was released. I was walking back to work from lunch and passed by a record store on State Street in Chicago and I heard Levi's voice! I ran in and spent my last money to buy this album and got back to work late. It would have been worth it to lose that job because I just had to have this album. R.I.P. Levi, much love.

  • my honey dedicated this to me, he posted it on his FB wall, I think I'll keep him for another 18 yrs. he 's a keeper!! Love you Carmelo

  • This song reminds me of playing in the grass with a water sprinkler and chasing my brother and sister while my family BBQ. Sometimes you really want to go back there and forget the future.

  • Still Waters, this song causes so much emotion. I was 12 or 13 years old listening to and Cha Cha-ing to this song. Life as a youngster was so tranquil then... But now...

  • The Temps movie was great, but when they gonna do a movie on the Tops?

Come on, BET, stop sleeping on the Tops, they was every bit as great as the Temps if not better.

Me personally, I love the Temps, but I like the Tops EVER MORE

  • I love what this song represents to all of us back in that time so beautiful.

  • Stupid title

  • This was a song I would go to sleep by in Vietnam as a Helicopter Pilot. The song gave me spiritual courage to continue each day.

  • @cpthardrock Nothing spiritual about killing in that war. The spiritual took a stand against the war.

  • @cpthardrock Yes my brother, Motown will live in our hearts to eternity....

  • @cpthardrock God bless you&hank you for your service..my dad was a Vietnam vet also

  • @cpthardrock Thank you and God bless you. The USA owes you Vets better than they're treating you. That War brought a lot of the color barriers down as well. Only good thing.

  • @cpthardrock

Bless you, friend. And thank you.

  • @cpthardrock Long may it do so!!!!!

  • Was gonna have this as our Wedding song!, some 8 years ago!, we didnt in the end?!, but it still reminds me of my beautiful Wife!, we are seperated now?!, but hearing it brings back alll those wonderful memories!..x

That was 30 years ago.....when all my friends were trying to be punk rockers ...I couldn't deny the fact that i was, am and always will be a soul boy. May god bless the man with the voice of an angel!!!

  • I"m living in the 70's, back in high school, when this tune was launched.....One of my favorites by the Four Tops......Days gone by. Have mercy on me!

  • I am soooo blessed to have grow-up during the 60s-70s and not only listen to these extremely talented smooth classy men,but to see them over 22 times, perform, without missing a beat!I cried my eyes out when Mr,Lawrence Payton died,The Four Tops, were in Boston, several days after he passed not only did they perform to perfection, they left a empty spot where their friend would have been! Cried my eyes out again when Mr. Levi Stubb died, then Obie...My forever favorite group,Love the memories I have!

  • Four Tops, one of my all time favourite groups, saw them each time they came to the UK. Just brilliant. Thanks guys for so many fantastic songs.

  • ♪♪♪♪▼♪♪♪♪

  • Was exposed to this by searching for a long time for the lyrics sampled in Grafix - Devotion

This is great, but I wish that Liquid Drum and Bass artists would give more respect to classic soul songs. They owe it.

  • yes!!!!! goooorgeous!!!!!

  • A timeless favorite.

  • This is what the R&B guys today need to aspire too. Today everything sounds Homogenized.... Theres no soul in todays R&B. Or its filled with over the top crooners!!!

  • This song brings back so many memories.

  • i love you the four tops , for the the hit still waters, so true,,

  • The originators of Soul music; The four Tops and hundreds of others created and posessed a style of music that decades later, still touches a place deep within. The Black American contributed to the sound of America and despite the climate of today; They are special and unique and most importantly, never to be forgotten or disregarded

  • Only Love Heals All Wounds... =)

  • I first saw the Four Tops in Manchester , England way back in 1972 and their performance was nothing short of GENIUS---Long live their music--R.I.P Levi, Obie and Lawrence and thank you Duke for keeping the memory of this fantastic group alive.

  • this is my sister Honey's song!!

  • Love Levi's voice!!!!!!!

  • The arrangement on this song is amazing.....loved it back in the '60s love it now!

  • I remember the summer STILL WATER (PEACE & LOVE) came out, it's like it was only yesterday. Hanging out with my buddies and waiting for the next basement 50 cent blue or red light parties so I could get with some of those fine BLACK GIRLS..

.OH THEY WERE SO FINE!. NEW YORK!

  • Cinnamon oatmeal. I remember the youth of my mother. She was pretty and laughed alot. She used to play songs like this when we lived in Trenton. Although my parents were married, I remember my mother best, She loved little me. I remember her hugging me. (She loves me now. I was sad one day and she sung me a song as we sat in the rain this past spring. Funny Mom.) Guess that is why this song remnds me of cinnamon oatmeal. Love you, Mom!

  • i'm 18 and i love this song!

it doesn't matter what age you are, i can appreciate real music!

  • R.I.P. Levi. Today we lost one of the greatest. ;-(

  • At the tender age of sixteen i fell in love with a girl a little older than me it was the mid sixties,i know that although i am happy with my partner. That first love still occupies my heart deeply.

  • There will never be another Levi Stubbs

  • I Love this!! since I was a little girl. It has christian undertones. The four tops are so great and there will never be any more groups like these that was in this era. Thank you!!!

  • demm i wish i was alive at that time. .that was real music !

  • @aomb20

  • Agree dogg

  • One of the best songs ever recorded.

  • @strodogg130 Right on.

  • The correct title is "Still Water (Love)"

  • Still Waters Run Deep, just like my love for you. To my first love I will always love you. Period. So sorry we couldn't make it through the storm.

  • all of the motown were my sweeties and mine "1969" will always be embeded in my soul don't tell him I still have such a burning flame for that guy. I guess I don't have what it takes because I have cried for him all my life even if I didn't want him to know at the time..

  • music nowadays always has an agenda, cant beat the classics,:)

  • Nothing like the 4 tops songs.

  • MY DADDY USED TO PLAY THIS FOR MY MAMA...NOW I KNOW WHAT IT MEANS AND ITS PART OF MY PLAYLIST....GROWN FOLKS SH**...LOL

  • Just pure music...

  • This is pure silk & style. the intro is slick.

  • this is music dont make like this any more

  • there always has to be some jerkoff(s) that have to dislike something...well guess what you dislikers, i don't like you so go kick rocks!!! the musical composition in this song along alone is beautiful.

  • it is nice to see the very young enjoy our era of music. and as you age, you will fall even more in love with this music due to life experience. it calms and soothes your soul allowing you to handle everyday life. the most important gift it gives you is the ability to truly love and appreciate people and life, no matter how hard the times. stay strong people!!

  • whether hand dancing or doing the cha-cha, thanks for the beautiful memories. truly underrated as a group. one of the best ever.

  • Gets me everytime. Earth & Heaven in this.

  • This was a unique time in music. And I think there will NEVER be anything as great as it was then..No Town Like Motown!!! Voices that were so damn SPECIAL!!

  • The Four Tops were a prolific group. That wonderful "Motown" sound is undeniable. This was one of my personal favorites. Thank you so much for this "classic" post.

  • They are such a class act, love them!!

  • true heart and soul...feel it grow in your heart, and call to your soul.there is no sin in feeling too much...

  • A cloudy New York autumn day driving to school with my neighbors. Listening to 77 WABC Still waters run deep with Levi putting his heart into the music. The fall of 1970, great memories.

  • @robphilll22 What a great description of life in the big city close to where it all began. Love it.

  • For the length of this song, all cares of mine drift into space. This song by the Four Tops, truely do transfere me back into a time of being young and so care free. Omg, where did those days go? Tears comes so easily listening to this song, not because of bad memories, but great memories. I love this song. Thanks always to the Four Tops. Thanks for the beautiful and awesome post.

  • @texasfox11 I could've said it any better. I was back there with you. Although I was only 13 years old, I remember playing this song all the time. I sometime get disappointed with the moving of time because it robs you of the precious moments of a glorious past that will never return to you. I start crying just listening & remembering how life was for me then. OMG is right, where did time go. I went to bed last night a boy, woke up a young man, back to bed, woke up an older man, DAMN!!

  • @texasfox11 I cannot believe how many songs i spend with tears on my face

  • great song, moody, atmospheric, sung a great vocal group

  • I hear this song & I am transported back to my youth....Thank you Four Tops <3

  • This songs brings back memories of Saturday mornings in the 70's. The songs would play, and the day was free of work and school. I was a little girl, but the song has so much depth. I didn't realize until recently how short it is.

  • I just love this song so much. I tell you levi's voice was so destintive and uniqu. I can never get enough of this song. such a classic. All but one of the originals are gone. We seem to be losing our great singers every year. RIP guys. luv ya'.

  • now back then, that was music!!!!

  • Beautiful music WOW . Real love ballad of all times. Pull up your man and slow dance across the floor.

  • is it just me or is all the music better back then ,it seems like no matter what you listen to ,whether it is rock soul country whatever, the artist of the 60sand 70s are just deeper and play with more feeling.Maybe we are just not as concerned about issues as people were then who knows.Great music all one can do is keep the memories alive.

  • Real music at it's best!!!!!!!!

  • how in the world did we go from this fine music and 'fight the power', to degrading self descriptions like 'n's, gangstas, thugs and ho's? God help us. Perhaps the old Motown songs can bring us back to our senses. This is MUSIC with purpose and those who sang it had real talent (and voices). Sorry, I'm just VERY old school and have no desire to be any other way.

  • Can't help but be proud of your heritage when you realize the multi talented people from our race. For those who somehow find it threatening when we have a proud moment; get over yourselves and use us as an inspiration to uncover the greatness of the human soul. Racism is so boring

  • This is an all time great. Nothing can touch it. It is real and this new generation

has missed the mark. Man, how could anyone in their right mind dismiss this

song and follow hip hop? I don't know. This new generation must not be about

    love. Maybe they are insecure.

  • Or " how to make grown men cry." You can hear the emotion in every single word and chord of the. This really is a peace and love tune. I've told my wife i want it played at my funeral !!

  • im totally into metal rock and punk rock but i still love this shit the 70s and 80s music kicked ass

  • In 1965,I was 6 years old,and The Four Tops were and still are my all-time favorite!I was in love with Levi, the 1st time I heard them was on WRKO A.M.in Boston I played (Can't help myself) to death! Saw them over 22 times the last one in 1997 at the HacthShell..3 days before Lawrence Peyton had passed away, the show went onn..and there was a open spot where Lawrence used to stand....Now only 1 is left.. 50 years these 4 orignals guys stayed together!!!

  • @RedSoxFan4eva1000 Baby I Need Your Loving started my love affair wit the Four Tops ! The year was1964 and I was 17. I saw them perform numerous times and was even invited to join them backstage on one occassion. Sadly only Duke Fakir remains. However, their music will live on. Four Tops... Fourever !!!!

  • GOD BLESS THE PERSON WHO

    PEACE AND LOVE FROM LONDON

  • @HoRnSeYHuStLeR PEACE AMD LOVE back at 'cha LONDON from Seattle!

  • they have not found the WORDS that can adequately give MOTOWN its due.

  • @tofelt Now, that's the TRUTH.COM. Motown ran it for a very long time and gave you CLASSICS.

  • Powerful lyrics by the best artists - went to school listening to this music and I have not heard better yet!!!

    Robert M

  • OMG .... they dnt make this lovely ,romantic music anymore.. OLDIES FOREVER......

  • a true classic

  • So beautiful is the music of the legends... I mean the musicians actually had somethin to sing about and it wasn't about doe, women, homes, cars, basically all the things that don't matter after you purchase them... it was simply about the essence of love and musical creativity. And cuz music like this is pure art, it's worth more to us who still enjoy it now cuz music is simply not the same.

  • soul will live in our heart,s,as stiill water,s will always run deep.

  • How could this song not been number #1?

  • It always comes back to this song.

  • Just A rememberable Song...Makes you settle down and move slow but in beat

  • Now this was music...soulful......yesssss!!!..

  • This works for me!

  • never you mind if i dont tell strangers passing by. If i dont brag, if i dont brag or boast. Click my glass and say a toast about my love for you, how it runs so deep and true and yet it's so, cause dont you know. ohh!!! I love this song. I had to sing- type it. Lol!!!

  • @sirdre331 ...LOL @ sing-type it! They don't write lyrics like this anymore...

  • This is my fave Four Tops track.

I had the pleasure and honour of seeing them at The California Ballroom in Dunstable near Luton(UK) in the 70's. The venue where so many great soul/motown acts played. Although demolished in 1979, there is still a thriving Cali Reunion scene locally by the great Sid Hudson DJ.

  • Hey, They wrote a song bout me, who knew

  • In a word; S-M-O-O-O-O-O-T-H...

  • Still waters run deep, really deep!...this is the way real love is...no matter what comes or goes...when it's love it's really deep, lays dormant at times, but never dies. Love is the water that flows constantly quenching those that are thirsty, calming those that are uptight, mesmerizing those that can't see, building self esteem to those that are insecure, love is the sun in the shine, the air that we breathe, love is deep!!!

  • i like this song the rythm vianey s

  • I found this song by mistake. I was playing MJ's video on Yahoo! This was one of the band listed under his playlist. They were cretainly great.

  • How could this song not reach number 1. And we say this country isn't racist.

  • The Four Tops are the true sound of Motown

  • I'm crying as I write this and listing to what I consider one of the Four Tops best songs. We all have our memories. My Beautiful older sister and I would play still Waters I would be Levi singing into a wooden spoon and she was my back-up singer. I feel blessed to have been able to share those wonderful moments with her! God Bless You SiS! I Love You

  • Live Nigga Night Out...

  • I loved The Four Tops. They put out an excellent body of work. This was one of my favorites - among many favorites!!!!!!!!!!

  • this was and is my favorite 4 tops record

  • Remember buying this as a single {45 record} and wore-it-out!!! LOL!!! This was my jam! Whenever I hear this song I think of my older brother "tryin" to sing it...OMG he was pitiful...great memories though. Love ya big brotha.

  • Real music!! Timeless beautiful tunes!

  • this song souds exactly like 'i wish you were here - bloods and crips'

  • who were the girls who sang backup on this song? And LOOK how slim everyone was back in the day=slim cause we NEVER STOPPED DANCIN'. We were ALWAYS dancing and that's my answer to exercise today: Put on your old platters and do the moves just like these guys for about 30 minutes a day. DO IT! Your spirits will be raised, and so will your heartrate. Besides you know back in the day this was a SLOW SONG.......

  • @MsJollycholly They were slim because they were young, and the one on the far right is actually not that slender, but I hear what you're saying.

  • @MsJollycholly

The Andantes did 99.9% of the background singing for motown. I would guess it was them

  • who were the girls who sang backup on this song?

  • @MsJollycholly was he marvalletts i think . But all the groups would chip in with backing vocals could have been the supremes

  • I,LL COME WITH YA FOR THESE CLASSIC TUNES BRING BACK GREAT MEMORIES

  • If anybody runs across a time machine....please email me so i can go back to these days. I will not hesitate to leave this crap we're into these days.

  • The Beginning of the song is the bass line of Britney Spears "Baby, One More Time"!!! i JUST REALLY LISTENED TO THE BEAT AT FIRST THEN IT SPARKED A THOUGHT!!! HOT DAMN!!!

  • Must be some hilly billy red necks hitting the dislike buttons, and if any brothers done so, then he must be sniffing the 'white-lady' stuff.

  • R.I.P OG LEVI AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY 2 da MAn 2 u dig ?

  • this song brings back so many beautiful memories, thanks for posting it! :)

  • Could make a person cry. Where is the attitude? Where is the wardrobe mirror sexual posing? No raunch here, just SOUL, baby, and some beautiful singing. That was then.

  • @wellfleet1 50 YEARS LATER & the MUSIC is STILL playing on the radio. MOTOWN artists didn't NEED to be raunchy. the LADIES didn't NEED to have their breasts hanging out. the MEN didn't NEED to have boners showing. the MUSIC, the TALENT, the VOICES, the SIMPLY ELEGANT dance steps was MORE THAN ENOUGH!!!!!!. ALLLLLL GLORY TO GOD ALMIGHTY in JESUS name. SO VERY BLESSED to have witnessed it from the BEGINNING.

  • @wellfleet1

Like Isaac hayes use to sa y about Shaft " U Damm Right " , miss this stuff , glad I still got some of it on wax.

  • @wellfleet1 YES this is true SOUL Music!!!

  • @wellfleet1 Man, that is one articulate statement...summed it up in a nutshell, alright.

You sound old school, like me!

  • @wellfleet1 i'd argue that there is raunch in this song. and just the right amount.

  • all i can say is hey hey hey! lynful58

  • Reminds me of my wife when she was a young girl in Germany and her parents didnt want us to get together....we got married,,,sadly we are no longer together...but we do have a daughter..this tune was responsible for this..thank you "Still Waters"

  • Superb Soul.

  • Forever Loving this one....

    :D

  • WALK WITH ME, TAKE MY HAND.....GOD BLESS YA LEVI AND THE BOYS.

  • This song reminds me of riding around Germantown and Mt. Airy in Philadelphia with my aunt and cousins on a beautiful summer evening listening to this on the Harvey Holiday show on WDAS-FM....those were the days...back in the day...ahhhh.

  • Classic...

  • wonderful song

  • wonderful tune more motown magic

  • CLASSIC!!

  • dancing to this song in the basement just so smooth a song!!!

  • dancing to this song in the basement just so smooth a song!!! froggywings

  • Oh mann! Sound beautifully 70s to my ears.

  • *Never you mind if i don't tell strangers passing by.....if i don't brag...if i don't brag or boast..click my glass and say a toast* when taken in the context of the whole record who writes or sing such subtle lyrics in a mainstream love song nowadays. Beats ooh ooh yeah gonna do it to you anytime.
