This sort of propaganda effort is doomed to failure. One reason is the fundamental lack of logic in the argument. The claim is made that cocaine use is the cause of violence in Colombia. But the mere use of a drug is not sufficient to produce violence. It is the attempt to ban the drug that results in violence. Legalization would be the obvious way to address the quite real problem of violent acts committed by, and against, drug mafias.
@bcaulf Regular cocaine use actually can make you a lot more aggressive as a person, but that's just my opinion. I'm not an aggressive person normally.
Yes, it is a sad business, plan Colombia doesn't work. The war against drugs is also business, tons of people are making money out of it. The only way out of it is controlled legalisation all over the world, and strong economic support for Colombia, so the middle class can grow. I hope that there will be Peace in Colombia one day. Such a beautiful country, such beautiful people. This Nation is struggeling to long. God bless you...Colombia(!)
ppl are too selfish to give a shit. They are more interested in stroking their egos (I do not count myself as an exception). Watching this I think it's a 'shame and all' but still doesnt provoke an emotional reaction. I know most people are much less empathic than me so it makes no diff. Gotta change the system, legalisation I guess would be the only realiztic thing that would stop this.
FI for anyone thinking about smuggling. At cartagena airport I was patted down and had my bag searched just to get in line for the check in counter, then entering the gate area patted down and sent through a metal detector, then got my bag searched again before being sent to a room, there I had to be xrayed, then I had to answer a couple questions to the immigration man before being patted down again and allowed to wait at the gate. walking onto the flight line there were soldiers liningtheway
Yes, Colombia has a fair amount of Astronauts, considering there not Russia or America. No South American country can compare to Colombia in terms of space expedition, space voyage and knowledge of astro physics.
cocaine production will be stopped as long as there are no druggies anymore.
the worst country is that one which produces drugs......the worst one is that one which has a lot of consumers....for example, england, brazil, usa, etc.
whoever sniffs cocaine and takes other drugs is a loser and weak.....that kind of weak cunt who cannot face everyday bad things.
i face everyday bad things then i snort coke on the weekend so i can get my fuck on. Anyway who is to say that taking drugs is bad, as if u listen to every law ever made.
Never felt the urge before. But this is just too much.
Alex James is a bass player, he may be clever and fun for a conversationl, but here he is completely and utterly out of his depth.
He manages to blunder every single interview and then adding insult to injury by personal comments such as comparing himself, a millionaire, to shoeless columbian farmers. And in the process completely negating the whole program and its subject.
As a Colombian its quite hard to accept this is our reality, and I'm glad a former rock star addict came here... At least he didn't do the usual hollywood crap assuming my country is a northern mexico jungle town. But still doesnt show what Colombia is for real, but thats because of the documentary nature. I've always wondered... why we are the bad guys for produce it... but for the rest of the world is cool to consume?
You're right, through news and tv people won't ever know what Colombia really is, and thanks to all the bad things they hear about Colombia, they are too scared to come and see the reality by themselves.
yeah. we colombians are always the bad ones, .. recently my working contract was canceled because having a colombian on the workplace was not safe ,acording to the insurance company. what they didnt know is that half of my coworkers were cocaine sniffers, but they hold european passports.
@danibeto10 I don't think you guys are bad for producing it. I think the government is wrong to keep it illegal when obviously people want it of their own free will. Adults should be able to choose for themselves whether they want to take it or not. If the governments allowed it to be legal the violence would end. President Uribe lives in a very nice house.
alex looked toey, craving, tested when the dealer started racking/lining up the pure dope two feet from him!poor guy!brave. also i wonder if the cocaine rebels handspray the legit farmers crops to pull them back in and stop the transition to banana, soy crops?whats the spraying doing to the forest as well?k
the worst country is not that one who produces drugs but the countries which let drugs enter...not only England is full of drugies....most Brazilians usually laugh at poor Colombians because of this issue but Brazil responds for the second highest cocaine consumption in the world...shameful

So, a rapist can say "I've given up raping girls now cos I've seen the damage it's done to my victims." Patronising bollocks, Alex. To think I respected you.
He gave up taking drugs, not because of this, but by a moral choice he made years before. This was purely to educate. Giving up taking drugs and giving up "raping girls" are entirely different things - but were a rapist to see the damage done and then be truley sorry for what he had done and repentant...is that not okay?
I couldn't agree more. How could anyone compare taking drugs to raping someone. Infront of you you are visibly harming someone, and on the other side you are apparently only harming yourself.
This film is educating people and I champion Alex for what he has donw, and having the courage to go out to Colombia, especially having read his book.
I really don't see a similarity in the decision of a rapist going out to rape someone and an otherwise law-abiding person making a phone call to meet a guy to get some coke to do at a party. There's a massive difference in the distance between the act and the suffering, with coke it mostly happens thousands of miles away.
I think most people don't think for a moment about the violent, harmful systems they support when buying coke. I don't find it patronising to get a bit of insight into that.
It would be very important to clear out to mr. James that Uribe is not tough to "rebels". He's only tough to Farc and ELN, paramilitary forces are realted to him, he can't go against his own party, else he can be easily killed. The members of his political party, his family and his advisors are related to paramilitary forces and drugtraffickers. It's very sad to see that Uribe and his government are payed attention to by the BBC and not the rest of the people who also have another point of view.
