  • God ?

  • The sound is so characteristically American but this guy is some kind of genius from England. Wow!

  • how come my Tele won't do that? it must be broken or something... :(

  • Love the way he uses the B bender.

  • Masterclass. And i he make it look like a walk in the park.

  • The intro is the same of Johnny B. Good by Chuck Berry, isnt it? ...-.-" very original

  • @Favit92 ... The intro is in the style of Chuck Berry, in fact the whole song is. Its country style rock n roll. Albert Lee's guitar technique is more advanced then Chuck Berry's was though.

  • 1:05 to 1:08.... three fine guitar seconds that take years to get

  • who dresses this guy ??

  • proper player, deft phrasing to the max

  • like the young frankenstein monster playing bass

  • wow, great sound ;)

  • Albert tops! see him playing with some Welsh bands on link: Ffyrdd y Wlad (Country Roads)

  • This is a very "grey" video. =p

  • super

  • This video went viral on Tonga

  • There should be a reason if Steve Morse has dedicated one song to this master guitar-alien... :-)

  • so many licks i wanna learn so much time cus i dont have a fuckin job ok lets get to work

  • Perfect timing, omg! Al doesn't ever miss a beat apparently : ) Not into country at all but i know how to appreciate a great musician!!

  • yeeees! B-bend strap guitar!

  • Alotta people try like hell, but nobody sounds like this dude... hes soooo right on, all the time.

  • Chorus is nice and buttery and the delay is on the mark for the effects.

  • @reelinanrockin I hope this guitar is 18 cause he just raped the shit out of it

  • Can you just run that by me again Albert? ;-)

  • the best part was from 0:01 - 2:54

  • @SokSa very original comment

  • Johnny b goode

  • @eklimenarc and they love a good trid act. U would do well up here.I think that the lack of intelligent new stuff is good 4trib acts.I know I've got a good thing as a writer I do still gig from time 2 time but I spend most of my life in my studio but Iam starting a new CD in September

  • @eklimenarc very cool on GM Texas. As good as SD but yr band is better looking lol.If u like Joe J then U realy know yr stuff.I got to know him sume and he a very dark but very smart man.Did 2gigs with J and and of all acts banana rama.At this time I live in Canada

  • @eklimenarc I write for the Disney Chanel and I do stuff 4 under different names as well but if u can play the wicked licks o Steely Dan U R my hero my friend.U and I R of kind I wish there were more like U.Art rock is not as big as it was in the 70s but we keep it going

  • @eklimenarc wow U got a very cool bunchof Steely Dan alumni.Opening 4Tull was the best gig o my life as I also love them and Statis Quo to.I did a show with Joe Jackson another Jazz rock god.As I sead I'm on utube just imput Richard sabsay and see the twit that's me

  • @MrRichardSabsay I finally realized you'd mentioned your videos and checked them out. You guys have a great gig going. Looks like a lot of fun. You can see my band Naked Lunch on UTube. Some are better than others. Joe Jackson is one of my favorite artists. His "Jumpin' Jive" record is amazing. Not sure how it is where you are, but there are a lot of great tribute bands in the US. In 1998 when we started, there were really not many tribute bands. Now, they're everywhere. More the merrier!

  • @eklimenarc 2 thoughts 1 a good engineer can make a song great they R the silent kings of all we love.2 I have 2 vids under this name on UTube check them out if U wish to see what a prat I am lol keep rocken it's good 4 yr sole

  • @eklimenarc my living as a song writer ironic as my typing sucks I live for my rock.I think my all time best live gig was opening 4 Tull and Quo in Germany and the best part was that I got to meet Jef Lynne my oober god.The rock of the 70s and 80s is my fave

  • @MrRichardSabsay If you pay the bills song writing, you're a wizard. Hard bizness. Got any videos of your songs being preformed? We are from the same era. If you opened for Tull, you're my new hero. Tull was probably my favorite band. Ian Anderson is a full out genius (now a salmon farmer). He's also a beast of an acoustic guitarist. But, Barre was THE MAN! The Aqualung solo is in the "all time greats" list. Back to Steely Dan for a minute, we have a new CD coming out and (continued)

  • I contacted a lot of the original Steely Dan session players to have them play selected tracks. We have Elliott Randall, Chuck Rainey, Dean Parks, Bernard Purdie, Jim Keltner, just to name a few. We're trying to get it all wrapped up by the end of this year. When Roger died we lost our engineer, mixer and masterer. Put us behind on completion. Once this is finished, it'll be a true tribute to SD. Well, time to practice!

  • @eklimenarc I thought U must b a player.As 4 Steely Dan::;Rock Gods::: I saw then in the 80s and again 2years ago A tall act 2 cover. I did the touring think 4 10 years with a # of bands.Now I make my

  • @ ekimenarc part 2 I've been in the rock biz for 30years and I'm 47 I live for prog rock in all forms and rock and roll in it's forms. The song writers R my big deal Justin Hayward Roger Waters,Lennon and Kate Bush R just sume faves but there R so meny

  • @MrRichardSabsay Indeed. Hayward, Waters, Lennon...greatness. I front a 10-piece Steely Dan tribute band; been doing it as a serious hobby for 13 years. Steely Dan had its share of great session players. Larry Carlton is way up there on the list. BTW, I had the honor of working in the studio with Roger "The Immortal" Nichols (RIP) who engineered our last CD. He passed on April 9 of this year. Engineer genius has to count for something!

  • @ekimenarc Well put my man.I think it's great so meny folks still get that it takes a life long dedication to be a master player.Times R such that the pop world is not about quality so I love this Utube thing as an outlet

  • @ekimenarc 1 more thought. The underrated players R some of the best 2 such as Glen Tilbrook Dave Edmunds and Richard Tommes and yes Roy Clark (Heho) and the king of the underrated George Harrison. The man that invented the 60s solo. But we must not forget are lord Les Paul the giver of life

  • @MrRichardSabsay In reply to both your posts, I agree with all your picker picks. People love to identify a "best of" in almost every field of human endeavor. Music is a biggy. There are so many incredibly gifted musicians that it's better to include, not exclude, as many as possible. I like ben909ben's comment about people achieving greatness in a style. Metheny is clearly NOT the country player Brent Mason is, and vice versa for jazz. I'm humbled by the talent in the world. Glad I'm not deaf!

  • @ekimenare Ok Metheny is a god yes But u go 2 overall musicality and beyond git so o will add pop sensibilty :Lindsey Buckingham Ian Anderson Gred lake Chet Atkens all perfect in there worlds. But it's hard to seperate 1s fave from the tek best who is my pick is Jeff Linne ELO as song man and the late Zappa on git with Flea on base

  • Let's just say Albert is the absolute best at what he does.

And David Gilmour is the best at what he does.

And Stevie Ray was the best at what he did.

And Hendrix opened the door for everyone who followed....

Man Albert is clean though, sheeee-ut! Helluva nice guy too...

  • @eklmenarc U make a good point hawever I think that one could say the the best on git or whatever can B summed up by the impact a player has had on the way the thing is played by all players after them IE Zappa RE jazz rock or Hendrix RE psydelic,Dave Gilmor/prog and so on.Albert Lee is in that class

  • @MrRichardSabsay Thanks. So, I'll toss my entirely meaningless hat in the ring. If the measure of a great guitar player also includes originality, innovation, composition, technical ability, longevity as well as influence, then I say Pat Metheny is the best, ever. Ok, before everyone strings me up (pun intended), just look at Metheny's body of work. It's mind boggling. He writes, arranges, plays, innovates, plays multiple instruments and may possibly be the greatest master of harmony ever.

  • This guy is a guitar player.

  • Albert Lee is a Master!

  • Everybody is the best player in the world and there are guitar gods on every corner. But, let's all argue over the impossible issue of deciding who, in the last and final analysis of the universe, is the greatest, most amazing, awesomest, quadrillion times better than everyone else in the entire friggin' pickin' galaxy. Then, we can all walk away friends until the next guitar god arrives and the fight will begin again!!!!

  • The git god of all time.I love the way this man plays so much.He changed my life.He and Dave Edmunds have it all.

  • Watch 0.30 - Bass player is in a happy place.

  • @tomkendall HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA funny face ;P :)

  • I think that's Sterling Ball on bass.

  • just a tad too slow ;-)

  • The bassist seems to be painful

  • wow that was great....whew...

  • wow that was great guitar playing...

  • 5 people are motherfuckers!!

  • albert = Jesus

  • Seen Albert Lee twice. A very nice friendly guy, who can certainly 'spank the plank'.

  • That basist thinks that he is more special than albert lee but no way Albert is lot of better :D

  • the bassist looks like he's "special"

    but i enjoyed this

  • great technique !!!!!

  • FUCK! great soloo man!!!!:D

  • Did anyone notice the Bass player? Sterling Ball..Ernie Balls son......CEO of Ernie Ball Musicman guitars...of which Albert Lee is now a long standing player.

  • Albert Lee ... Legend!!! ....Whats with the bogus link above though???

  • I knew this guy was a helluva picker, but had no idea he was a great singer until just now. Great clip, thanks for posting.

  • He's just fabulous

  • Most cats will sound like a dog with that tone.

  • @BJrok hah! clever! this cat sounds like a tiger!

  • albert's weapon of choice has always been the "tele" ..That sweet bite it has fits his style so perfectly...

  • @timtipton5071256 for the last while he has been playing an Ernie Ball Music Man

  • @timtipton5071256

He's played an Ernie Ball Musicman guitar exclusively for over 20 years.

  • Love albert but I think Scotty Anderson is just as good, maybe better.

  • 1.03 seconds. Good Lord!!

  • @Davoravo86 chmpf! That's my warm-up :D :D

  • @Davoravo86 WhaT?

  • his timing is incredible

  • Incredible performer!

  • Albert Lee, rock n roll to country, you r the best

  • albert is great at what he does .. but ..he is not a "blues player ..he is "fast ..clean .. and precise ...country ..

  • Cavolo oltre a suonare alla graande ha anche una bella voce !

Ok lo ammetto conoscevo Albert assai poco, bhe sono in tempo per rimediare :)

  • what a voice!

  • Yep, this lad is one of the best ever on the tele...or any other axe for that matter. Now he plays a G&L, right? Custom?

  • @TheOtherJarhead Ernie Ball Music Man/ Albert Lee model

  • excellent audio--direct recording

  • excellent audio--direct recording

  • Response to Daniel Burass. I beat you to it.

  • This is really amazing picking -love that telecaster ! :D gus

  • Would be great to here Albert do a jam session with one of the best blues guitarist

I have heard;namely Gregor Hilden with his 1959 Les Paul Gibson.

  • Goshhhhh....!! Blues playing, Country singing!!

thanks so much for sharing, mkschreder, thanks so much, dear tholay!!

  • he's unstoppable.

  • Im throwing my guitars away!

  • Gotta love Albert Lee. First class Picker!!!!!!!!

  • Anybody else see a Peavey bottom? Who needs a boutique when you;re that good!?

  • 1:06 :-D

  • I always love how guitar players and enthusiasts will argue for hours about who is "best"....How about just shut up and enjoy, no one cares about how important you think your opinion is.

  • Somebody knows the name of this show or have a link for download?

  • nice shirt, nice guitar

  • 4 dislikes!? WTF

  • damn that boy sings great as well !!

  • Flow like a river!

  • Albert Lee playing a telecaster is an ear to ear grin.!! Emmylou Harris and Sheryl Crow knew enough to ask him to perform with them. If you don't get Albert Lee I feel sorry for you.

  • It is amazing playing, no doubt about it, but the song as a whole...not so sure. Average singing, and even the solo does not really take the song anywhere - it is just an interlude for Albert to strut his stuff. Marks: technique A+, art C-.

  • 1:06-1:09...is that the fucking coolest run, or not?

  • Yohan von blues ALBERT LEE IS AMAZING...CHECK OUT THAT RIGHT PINKY!!

  • Amazing......I am speechless!

  • If you ever watch Albert look at the other musicians they just smile to themselves, thinking what the fuck was that I'm quitting...

  • grande albert come sempre!!!!!!=)

  • This is just too much!! He is a Legend of epic proportions!!

  • Yep one of the greats of all time. It is nice when serious fans of his and guys like Scotty Anderson keep em in the limelight that they richly deserve. Albert is one of the really, really good guys as well.

  • Sterling Ball on Bass!

  • Besides his genius guitar playing, Great rock n' roll voice!

  • Whaddya say about that? Now I would venture to say that this man knows his way around the fretboard. I take my hat off to you Albert.

  • Incredible! ALbert Lee is the man!! What a lovely B Bender sound. He really knows how to get the most out of those things.

  • what a great guitarist..but what horrible tone...

  • @alejandro8888 its awesome tone. computer speakers tends to mess things up a lot though. being at that show that guitar tone would probably sound incredible. I think he's playing on the 'in between' single-coil pickup setting

  • @earthmanembassy He gets theee best sound known to man!! And yea, you are correct, middle/bridge position!

  • unbelievable!

  • Queria ter aula com esse cara

  • where is this from?

  • the intro is johnny b goode

  • haven't listened to Albert Lee in a hot minute, this is SMOKIN!!

  • Played a gig with albert a few years back, he plays even better than this these days :) x

  • hahahhahha!

  • Anyone has a tab for this? Amazing

  • @jojoel10 tab for a B-bender...? never seen such a thing.

  • he looks like Steve Vai in this haha

  • @olaftheholy It's hard to imagine that "Our Albert" used to play in the same band as Chas Hodges ( Heads Hands and Feet). Hodges ended up in the appalling cockney duo " Chaz and Dave". Check THEM out on youtube. Funny how guitarists get born in the wrong places. Slash is a Brit ( honest!)

  • @incongra There's nothing apalling about Chas and Dave, I thought you had musical taste by listening to this, but you have proven otherwise by saying that shit

  • @discocreator76 Yeah but I'm a Scotsman... what, you expect me to say I LIKE Chaz 'n' Dave...?

  • how come he's british

  • His parents were british. He just came out that way.

  • The best country picker you are ever going to see play!!!

  • I see what you're saying. I have a tendency to over-complicate things lol. but yea, it's all about hearing the changes and playing over them. I was just describing different tequniques you can use to do that. If you're just playing chord tones and notes from the scale, it's not gonna be "wrong" but it's gonna sound pretty boring... when I'm playing blues, I'm zoning in and concentrating so hard, it's beyong even thinking. I just DO IT. I struggle with stuff with a lot of changes though.

  • When Schalke would play football like Albert plays the guitar - - - the Blue-Whites could only be very successful!

  • man i just sold my tele with a b bender now i wish i hadnt it looked exactly the same except mine was a hip shot

  • my god , i love his voice , and his playing speaks for itself i think lol

  • He kicks ass

  • well, here's my two cents. like a lot of bluegrass player, he uses a couple of jazz-type techniques like encircling and chromatic passing tones. for instance, using the myxolydian as a starting point, connecting the mj3 and 2nd in a line with a min3 in between, or going from the 5th to the 4th with a note in between, hitting a min3 THEN finally nailing the maj3. it's all about creating tension and release, and it's not unlikehow a lot of jazz players will treat a song, though obviously jazz

  • jazz can get a lot more sophisticated. but it's the same concept of outlining the different chords, using those tecuhiques, and of course he's got his pentatonic licks and his arpeggios and god knows what else. it's easier said than done though. I'm nowhere near as good as albert, but I've been working on some country licks some. the hard part is knowing where you are at all times, where the scale is, where all your licks are, the "money notes" and being able to connect the lines from chord

  • to chord and keep it interesting and original.

  • its not that complicated really. though i understand what your saying in the two comments, for someone who doesnt know a whole lot its really nothing more than playing over the chords. im a serious country and jazz player as well as classical, jazz players just play over the chords. its nothing too over the top. your extremely right in saying that you have to know where your headed and although albert has said he doesnt think about the solo, he knows where he's headed.

  • I don't like alot of country, least not old country, but this guy kicks some serious ass from a guitarist's point of view.

  • That has got to be the best guitar sound ever!!!

  • what scale would he be using?? a major scale? or major pentatonic?

  • He begins with minor pentatonic scale then he mixes major and minor pentatonic !!! It sounds very unique to use minor pentatonic on a major harmony. FOR EXAMPLE ''VIVA LAS VEGAS'' OF Z.Z.TOP !

  • ah i see. im sort of a beginner on scales and modes and all that stuff. im gonna try to improvise with this i think lol

    oh and thank you

  • I wish you success in playing !!!

  • Well... you could say he centers around a Cmaj Pentatonic - but he is really treating each chord as it's own series of arpeggios, riffs & pentatonic. So get some stuff for C then some for F then some for G and follow the changes. Also dig a channel in the back of your Telecaster for a "b-string bender" controlled by your strap - then you'll start to approach this solo.

  • If you notice, it's not pure major nor pure minor. A good starting point is the mixolydian mode (Google for expl. of modes). If the song is in C, the C mixolydian mode would be C D E F G Bb C (the normal C major scale has B instead of Bb, right?). This mode goes well with dominant 7 chords, so you can play F mixolydian with F7 and G mixolydian (actually same notes as C major scale :-) ) with G7. Also, try not to accent the 3rd note of the scale too much, the E note if in C, as this note gives ..

  • ... gives the characteristic "major" sound. Instead you could play a "minor 3rd" - a Eb, if in C - but not for too long as it will sound to "minory" or bluesy. Use these notes more like passing notes. This also goes for rhythm playing - when you play a C chord, try to avoid the 3rd (E), and play the root and the 5th. All these things will help you make it sound not quite major, not quite minor :-) Good luck!

  • ok well I think I'll stop playing now!

  • that tele just cant be beat .imo

  • Albert's just as good on the piano, check out 'Monte Nido' on his "Albert Lee" album

  • I always wonder where you guys find these terrific videos. I'm just glad you do. This is one of the few places you can see them.

  • Wow

  • that's the reason why Clapton says Albert is the best guitar player he has heard.

Amazing use of the B-bender... love it!!

Long life to Albert Lee, Maestro.

  • Clapton never said that.

  • @JimmyPlomo actually he said Tommy Emmanuel is the best.

  • @newnoggin2 Tommy Emmanuel isn't the best. You ever heard him play an electric guitar? Not that impressive.

  • @capitalismforme

Your right there;Tommy Emmanual is overated.

He always sounds the same, very bland.

Albert Lee by comparison knows how to really play and make use of all of the guitars capabilities .

  • @Frank5133 I love Albert. Tommy's great too but people make too big of deal about him. Scotty Anderson makes Tommy look like an amateur playing his own style.

    watch?v=JfBSIe3SKdE

  • @capitalismforme

Your right again; Scotty Anderson is a real class player ,he delivers the sound complete with harmony and rhythm intact.

Tommy could learn a lot from him.

    Thanks for the tip.

  • @Frank5133

yep, I used to love Tommy (had a great album in 1979) but he got too clever by half and his choice of material is the pits in my opinion.. dare I say it, no soul!

  • @capitalismforme

    stupid.

"You ever heard Obama speaking Cantonese? Not that impressive."

  • @theodorehui That didn't even make sense. Music doesn't have several languages - only notation. That's why music is universal. It doesn't matter in what country you reside, everyone can understand music.

  • @capitalismforme Unless you're in a culture that enjoys quarter tones rather than semitones, then it gets different.

    Or something. Who knows?

  • @JimmyPlomo no clapton says that vlatko stefanovski is the best guitar player he has heard

  • @JimmyPlomo Eric Clapton says a lot of people are the best guitar players hes heard lol

  • @MacDrevi0us I agree, I also think Clapton is way over-rated but who asks me?
