this was an awesome cartoon. I had a Shazzan coloring book! I loved that the camel's name was Kaboobie - it was fun to say. And the magic ring was pretty cool, too. I seem to remember they had a flying carpet to at some point. I was fascinated with anything genie-related when I was a kid.

Shazan, Green Lantern, Bilbo Baggins and Ultraman Ace all use a ring to transform or appear in some way.
Generally speaking the use of a device (transormation item) is far more common in Japan.
Alex Toth the creator of this series spent a couple of years in Tokyo. Might he have been influenced?
