Should never assume that just anyone is, or was, under the Law. See Romans 2:12-15 where you find that Gentiles were not under the Law, ever. There was no such thing as Law and Gospel or Law vs. Gospel for converted Gentiles. There was only the Gospel since they never ever were under the Law.
@StringPlunker If Gentiles were never under the law, then why are they condemned? Why were they dying? Death reigned from the time of Adam till Moses, even over those who didn't commit sin, Romans chapter 5. Where death reigns, condemnation is ever present. You should know that.
You are told why: Romans 5:12ff. Adam, nor Noah, nor Abraham were under the Law. None of them were Jews or Israelites either. For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law; Rom 2:12.
Do you not see the contrast? The Jews were under the Law. The Gentiles were not.
Rom 6:14 does not apply to you. It applied to a Jew under the Law. See Rom 2:17; 3:8-9; 4:1; 7:1.
@StringPlunker Roman 6:14 applies, BECAUSE the chapter is ABOUT baptism. Unless, of course, you think that baptism doesn't apply either. Be careful how you respond to that.
So, in your view, there are two ways of Salvation?
He is speaking to Jews who had been baptized. Having been baptized they are no longer under the Law. Paul has been addressing the Jewish segment of the church since chapter 2. See 2:17; 3:8-9; 4:1; 7:1.
Romans 6:14 refers to a Jew who is no longer under the Law.
@StringPlunker Suit yourself. You're so certain you understand it, keep in mind how angry Paul got over the Galatians. There is no distinction, he meant it, and it's true. Jew, Gentile, all the same in God's economy.
If you have have anything else to add, let me respond in advance. Suit yourself.
Jew and Gentile were not the "same" until they were both God's people in Christ where the Law did not exist which separated them. Read Ephesians 2:11-16.
If you love your creedal traditions more than the truth, then serve your creedal traditions.
"Its not that you don't believe in infant baptism, its that you can't believe in it..."
Hmmm...
No infant baptism in NT. Those baptized understood the gospel, they were convicted, repented, believed & asked God for His forgiveness. Then they continue to follow Christ instead of their old sinful desires.
As for "sinners don't get the gospel"
Ea. of us were sinners when we heard the gospel & as believers the law is now written in our hearts, our new nature.
BTW check out my vids on the false teachings of sacraments, infant baptism & many other things that you believe (along w/ the catholic church).
Lots of unbiblical stuff & personally I think your missing the mark in regards to how God said He would write the law on our hearts vs them being written on tablets of stone OT vs NT.
God gives us a new nature if we are convicted of breaking His laws, repent, confess, believe, follow Him, die to self, etc. We are now slaves of righteousness.
No, see, this is where you evangelicals get mixed up. The law is written on the hearts of all, as St. Paul tells us in Romans chapter 2:14-16. I've been watching you... You're one of those who, if given the chance, would destroy a Christian's faith with your confused message. You want to be a teacher of the law, but you don't know what your talking about.
I'm not evangelical, I'm a christian & I'm not the one who is making conflicting statements like "Its not that you don't believe in infant baptism, its that you can't believe in it"
and...
"sinners don't get the gospel"
The scriptures are clear & ur beliefs are all over the map. Jesus is not about being a teacher of the law, but HIM in you & ur old nature has been changed to a new one; one that obeys & is no longer a slave to sin.
So in other words, you disregard Paul's clear statement concerning the law in favor of your made up laws? That makes you an evangelical my friend. And yeah, sinners don't get the gospel, and never will, save that God does something about that... Or do you believe that it's man's effort that makes him believe?
Nope, you just totally missed the mark on what I said again & what the whole counsel of God states - taking it out of context to fit your biased teachings which come from the traditions of men.
Funny how you ignore my questions where I point out how your statements conflict with scripture. Fact remains your all over the map and preaching a different message.
@hetgow -After 25 yrs as an avid Evangelical, I can personally testify that it's Evangelical Christians who don't know the Gospel. A couple yrs ago I was challenged to concentrate on the simple Gospel message, - and to my shock, - I realized I didn't know what it was/is. Now I am learning what it isn't.Now, I'm unlearning yrs of bad doctrine and no teaching. Very hard.
The G is not Altar Calls, not a Born Again moment, not Tithing, not rejecting Tradition, not quoting Revelations, etc. etc.
I feel blessed that I came across this video and especially a fellow believer in Christ that RIGHTLY DIVIDES the word of God. It's pretty rare to find a grace believer in the world. GBU to you! :)
Yes It's taken 35 yrs of being a Christian before I just recently grasped the freedom and Grace of the Good News.
Our human nature understands working for things and following laws.
Even a little bit of leven (Law) ruins the whole batch.
The problem is most churches don't preach the GOOD NEWS. To start, throw out the 10 Commandments. Sound shocking? Christians need to get back to Grace. The message mixing 'shoulds' and law, is definitely not the wonderous message that swept the world.
A little Leaven ruins the whole batch... Hmm... I might want to steal that connection from you.
But ya know, there's nothing wrong with the ten commandments... but most of the time people don't even know them. They've already thrown them out, so there's no need to preach the Gospel. They instead focus on advice for living the Christian life, which is a form of Law that is killing them slowly.
You're a gem. I'm honored that you see the leaven and the Law connection - as worthy of "stealing".
Right after Jesus says it (Mathew), He next warns against the teaching of the Scribes and the Pharisees.
The Law, the 10 Commandments, Deuteronomy, have much to guide us about life and God's nature (Compassionate) . We are told to let a working Ox eat the grain she is threshing, a groom is not to be taken to war away from his bride, etc. But the Mosaic Covenant was not for us.
Nothing wrong with the 10C. I agree, and following them won't redeem us.
Great point in your last sentence. Churches teaching advice for Christian living which mixes Law. It's the great tragedy of modern Churches. Agree totally about 'killing them slowly'.
Amen! I agree with all you say about law and gospel, but what does that have to do with infant baptism? You mentioned infant baptism, but then didn't relate it back to the rest of your message.
It refers back to an "altercation" I had with some people who attacked me for believing in infant baptism... and my point was that they can't believe in infant baptism because they don't understand that it's a doctrine that falls out of the Gospel... I made a video on this where I had stated that I didn't come to my understanding of baptism by studying baptism, but rather by studying the Gospel, ie, Justification and the distinction between law and Gospel.

You might want to do some searching about the Rabbinical yoke and put this in context.
When Jesus was talking about the yoke it was that He would not put the law demands on His followers that other Rabbi's would.
Because of grace His yoke is light

My brother's objection to the gospel is actually that it's too easy and doesn't make sense.
For it is by grace through faith that we are saved. The Law is too much to bear...Christ is the fulfillment. Blessings.
