I believe the main reason is that you are SUPPOSED to win the fight. He wasn't counting on a glitch allowing me to get a Pokemon that could possibly compete.

And I actually beat his lv 100 team. I somehow caught is furi Z Pokemon at level 66 and it had only willowisp rest and seismic toss. So i just used seismic toss and rest a lot and won. You get $40000 but the story doesn't advance. So I had to fight him again -_- lol
