  • On our recent flight to OHS i was occasionally able to get 3G at 8000 feet. Not sure why this happens, but it did. The GPS lost signal a few times, but not often.

  • @rdfelty iPad in lap? Plastic airplane? Odd about the 3G, did you get it along enough for weather updates?

It was great seeing you at OSH

  • @buells2t iPad in lap and iPhone in hand. Got 3G at times on both. Some kind of bounce maybe. Metal airplane. Did get a bit of a radar load. Mostly used it to check and send e-mail. Actually ordered lunch for our fuel stop via e-mail! Maybe had it for 10 minutes each time and probably only 3 times on each leg. Seemed to be over larger population centers. Once I got Edge but not 3G.

  • what app

  • @airbus91 We used ForeFlight, SkyCharts, and MotionX on this flight. they all performed equally well. I prefer fForeFlight when I'm flying.

  • Cell service is relative to distance to tower on this flight we lost it a couple thousand feet off the ground.

GPS works independent of that. Our experaince is that an iPhone 3 G looses GPS about 10000 ft MSL.

The video shows iPhone 4 and iPad which worked fine at the 17000 plus MSL we reached on this flight

  • I myself have the iPhone 3G, HOW do you get a 3G signal, let alone a GPS signal on your iPhone? I've noticed whenever I fly above 1,500-2,000 ft, I loose all signal. Perhaps there's another device you use?
