  • Great instruction, Jen - I play the low end with a cupped hand & fingertips only so it resonates and allows me to keep the striking hand in place. Just a different technique... of course, the first time I played for 2+ hours straight, it took a week for my hands to heal. LOL

  • Your video is a favorite on Georgia

  • what the hell i play a drum kit is this easy to pick up for drummers?? its portable

  • i started my looking up "Skrillex remix" and through the mighty power of similar video suggestions i ended up here.. wtf?

  • Awesome cajon vids!!!! I recently broke the string on one side of my meinl burlwood cajon, I was wondering what is the best way to replace it, it looks like a guitar string, i assume its acoustic, but i have no clue how to replace it. Do i take the front plate off, and does the gauge of string matter. any help would be much appreciated thanks you

  • wow thats a nice box lol

  • Australia made Cajon called the Rockbox is pretty amazing.

  • can u do a vid of the girl flexing her arm muslces

  • BOOBS

  • Very cool!

  • lol, you rock, definitly. Gotta learn those beats too

  • you have a nice cajon ... slap it

  • new instrumen?? FU

  • well it doesn't really matter to alot of people and to boomboom commenting on here but CAJON originally from Peru The cajón is the most widely used Afro-Peruvian musical instrument since the late 18th century. The historyon cajon should be know its a Peruvian instrument

  • I wish someone would make a cajon pickup, because Meinl's cajons leave me wanting. Their bag is cool though.

Also, that bit about "the cajon has no rules" is intellectually dishonest. Anyone that picks up the instrument should first learn how to play festejo, learn how to play cajon flamenco, and then apply the lessons learned there to whatever else you're going to do.

Whether you want to be or not, Ms. Lowe, you are an ambassador for this instrument. Use that power wisely, please.

  • Dirty thoughts...thats all that comes to mind as I watch this.

  • thumb up who is not listening and watching at cajon..................

  • what is a good cajon to start out with...im just a beginner with percussions. Cajon just looks fun to play so yeah i wanna learn how to play it!

  • go jen

  • loving your channel!! ive just bought a meinl headliner, after retiring my old cajon (which has seen better days) i really want to use my new headliner in some gigs coming up but i cant get rid of a high pitched buzz from the snares, which is causing some bad feed back through my pa. do you have any tips??

    keep rocking

    Alis x

  • if you are talking about a plugin Cajon shouldnt you plug it in, instead of using a distant room mike?

  • Your link in the description doesn't work.

  • 2:20 minutes to speak, and 50 seconds of sound ... you have to do it ...!

  • you should record this videos with a loose skirt :)

  • What type of Cajon is this and how much do they cost?

  • Daaaaam this chick is hot!!!!

  • nice tits

  • I Have a Question this cajon sounds amazing but i was wondering is which is better this one or the black Meinl? she said she liked them both. Also i want a cajon that has good bass also. Thank You

  • using the exact same one right now

  • Hey Jen!, thanx 4 the tips! you are amazing, the best teacher so far!

Cheers from Buenos Aires Rock City, Argentina

    ROCK ON! \m/

  • Hi Jen.

Well first of all I have to tell you that instrument is a "Cajon" exactly as you call it and you use it good, but it's not a new instrument. It's Peruvian and it's use is not for that kind of music, it's original use is to use it to Peruvian music. But if you want to use it to rock, ok it doesn't matter. I just want to tell you that it's Peruvian.

  • @oO21AlfonX91Oo look up this instrument the bodrhan

  • DI Box. Direct Input Box?

  • good

  • I just bought mine (same model as yours), did you find that out of the box you had to tighten the strings quite a bit? I don't have the sound that you do-thanks. It just seems to 'rattle'. VERY helpful video, too. Thanks!

  • @msinstructor You might have to tune it up :) I have to mess with mine a little too, but you should be able to dial it in.

    Rock On.

    Jen Lowe

  • @boomdrums Thank you for the reply. I am ENJOYING your channel!!! I have tightened some but I am afraid of over tightening and snapping a string. Am I being unrealistic in looking for no rattle on the low end? Do I need to adjust my expectations? Thanks!

  • @msinstructor You will always have a little rattle in the low end.

    Rock On.

    Jen Lowe

  • @msinstructor Are all cajons the same size?

  • @SuspectProductionss They appear to be to me-but I that is just my thought. I am still not getting a good sound of mine--then again, it was only $100. But I have never really had this thing sounding good, are you?

  • @msinstructor give me some time and ill upload mine, have you tried tightening the snare inside the cojan,

  • wow what a fascinating instrument... mmmmmmkkkkk

  • @henryshomebrew Yes it is. It's Peruvian.

  • @oO21AlfonX91Oo This is the first time I saw a Hot girl hitting a chair and its sound really good...

  • i like her feet!

  • HI JEN TNX FOR THE VIDEO. I am looking to replace the drum set. I need a good snare but want that good deep bass sound. tnx model?

  • Make your own rules. Sounds like me,looking to buy one.

  • eh, you legend Jen!!! :O

  • oh its going to sound good pluged in to a pa system !!!

  • i love you hermosa

  • Nice Jen! Question...I want to buy a Cajon, but noticed there is a wide range of prices. Amazon has one for $52. Any advise on which Cajon--what to look for, should you not buy off the internet and play it first?

  • @yogasandy

I would get the Meinl Burl Wood cajon. It's my favorite. And get the case with it. You will be happy you did!

    Rock On.

    Jen Lowe

  • u just made me but a cajon

  • hi

  • This is so cool:) *****

  • gostosa

  • yOU PLAYED THIS WITH OUT A AMP AND IT SOUNDED THAT GOOD.?

  • If Jen (or anyone else here for that matter) can answer my question, I'd be really grateful.

Is the cajon here battery operated? I looked it up on the Meinl site, it says it comes with a 9 volt battery. i'm confused on how cajons work.

  • @antondiep This cajon does have a pick up in it, but I am not using the pick up in this video. If you choose to purchase a cajon with a pick up in it, it will come with a 9 volt battery to support that pick up. The pick up will allow you to play the cajon through an amp or a PA system if you choose.

    Rock On.

    Jen Lowe

  • A little misleading I think when you say that the sound is unprocessed. You either have a ton of reverb/delay or the room is very open and with lots of natural echo. Makes the instrument sound a LOT bigger sounding than it really is.

  • Rock On!

  • @fuckyouendlessly took your advice and sold the box, your wife sounds much better

  • i've seen this before and still think it a great vid. And yes, cajon are fun to play for a jam or even the live show as a nice added percussion element! did anyone else notice the second 'drum set' beat she played sounded a lot like TOOL? ha! yeah! awesome!

  • how could you dislike this?

  • That cajon is very bangable.

  • Sexy woman, can you do a lesson in lingerie???

  • were u using the build in mic? or an external one?

  • @bauke777 this is just the sound of the cajon, the mic is simply the one on the camera.

    Rock On.

    Jen Lowe

  • She has a quarter-inch plug in the back, does she? Ha ha!

  • JUS PLEY DA DAYUM INSTREMANT WUMAWN

  • I play Cajon with passion. Very nice video, love it. ^^

  • You are The Hottest Rock'n Roll Girl i ever seen...

  • @RyanIKJ No one would've ever predicted THAT reply...

  • @RyanIKJ lucky for you she has her legs wide open ;-)

  • great info thanks jen, looking to get one for a acoustic act. any advice and link on what to get. where are you located thanks

  • Check out my cajon video's foor some funky stuff:)

  • 2:26 Playing sober by tool? Awesome.

  • Since no one else will say it, does she seem to be freakin' hawt? Or is that just me.

  • Anyone know of any Cajon bands????

Ninja Horses give an interesting sound...

    Jim :)

  • very nice cajon, do you know that the cajon has his origen in Peru?

  • I would grab one at BoomBoom but I'm not seeing anything there.

  • how much would one of these cost?

  • you take microphones to the gig, you bring them home...k?....

  • yeah spank dat....

  • these are not new, they are peruvian!!

  • this instrument is awesome!!!!!!! love it!!!

on the go is said right!

and the first time i heard it being used i was amazed

  • @alejandra14anahi its peruvian by the way, google it

  • Video is well-sync'd to sound, better than most. Thanks for vid.

  • Is there any way to get a thicker bass sound from the cajon? Any way to adjust it to give it that kind of sound?

  • mine didnt come with pick ups !!!

  • Wish to be the cajon!

  • Good thing you're not wearing shoes. Wouldn't want to do that.

  • Awesome- the instrument AND your presentation style! I am acoustic guitarist, want to run this through looper pedal for live performance. Thanks for the video!!!!

  • i waaaaaaaant oooooooooonnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeee!

  • Jen love your videos. They are very informative. I also like your presentation style. I recently picked up a custom made cajon from a local builder and I have been using your vid's to get up to speed on the basic techniques. This cajon has a really deep bass thump to it and a snappy snare. I like to leave my hand "on" when I go for the bass drum sound because it gives it a dry and tight thump. Thank you all the good advice.

  • Hey Jen. Is the 'pick-up' the best model to get if you want to do small gigs with it?

    Martyn

  • @dawoodmeister pick up cajon works great, especially if you do not want to bring mics with you to the gig. You will love it. I hope you will consider getting one at BoomBoom Percussion!

    Rock On.

    Jen

  • @boomdrums Just bought this cajon and Im loving it! Great tips!

  • @boomdrums : I am sorry, but I cant agree...The Pickup sounds aweful! I have a record about that and i can show you...

  • Hey Jen. I'm Inspired!. I too am a kit player. Is the 'pick-up' the best model to get if you want to do small gigs with it?

    Martyn

  • ESE ES EL CAJON "PERUANO"

  • Look for a Cajon from Magnum.

    Rock on

  • this is great i recently purchased a fat conga cajon do u perhaps have a demonstration video of one?

  • hey, i'm a drummer and i'm looking for a cheap cajon to play along with my band on acoustic repetitions. what do you advice me?

  • @bartdgro Get the Meinl Headliner Cajon. You will love it! BoomBoomPercussiondotcom!

    Rock On!

    Jen Lowe

  • was just wondering if you have any demonstration on how to play a snare tumba cajon i just recently purchased one and can' t find any video demonstrations on how to play it

  • Hey I have that it's so awesome and fun!!!

  • i was watching an acoustic performance in which the percussionist was playing what i think was a cajon but he was playing the top of it, is this a certian style or can any cajon be played like that?

  • @brokenbones112 They can be played like that as well.

    Rock On.

    Jen Lowe

  • beauty!

  • I think this is so cool ! thanks for the tips !

  • it looks uncomfortable..

  • im' thinking of getting this as a gift for someone but he's kinda heavy set.. maybe 210?? is that alright? impact the sound at all?

  • @eyeballs306 I think all would be well for this purchase. grab it at BoomBoom!

    Rock On.

    Jen Lowe

  • @eyeballs306 yeah I'm 215 and I have used it for almost a year and all is good.

  • Do Cajons typically sound snare-ish? Because in a few videos I saw it had this snare like vibe to it which is what got me so interested, but like in this video it just sounds like a wooden box. Is that just video sound quality, or do they really sound snare-ish? and if not then is there something that people do to their cajons to make them that way like in the other videos I saw?

  • @KazziKolorZz Cajons have a snare sound for sure. It might be the sound quality on the video, but you would def. have a great snare sound.

I hope you grab one at BoomBoom!

    Rock On.

    Jen Lowe

  • @KazziKolorZz You can tune a cajon to sound differently

  • Thanks for the great instructional Jen! Seems like such a great instrument for the traveling house-concert folksters I know. Best wishes, HM, Highway Cinema

  • in brazil girl very good...cajon peruano ......lost

  • ohh.. your so good at it.^^

  • 00:37 plug-in into the back :)

  • How much do they generally run...9 yr old wants to play drums and I thought this would be easier to control than a drun set...Thanks Tandy

  • @tandybraid Tandy, there is a cajon for children called The Nino Cajon, but depending on the size of your child, this might be too small. The price on that drum is 94.99. Then there is a headliner cajon, which I believe would be perfect. It sells for 99.99 You can get them both at BoomBoom Percussion.

    Rock On!

    Jen Lowe

  • sweet video, just got a Cajon at the church I go to and love it ;) !

  • how muck weight kan the cajon take??

  • the audio & video are out of sync which makes this a hard demo to watch.

  • what about the mic,is good?

  • FYI to anyone watching this: I just saw her this week in concert touring with Eddie Kowalczyk from LIVE at an acoustic concert. She is AHHHmazing she plays the cajon like no one else I've seen!!!

  • what model do you demostrate in the video. Whats the name of the cajon?

  • @2Heinz2 Burl wood cajon by Meinl. Get one at BoomBoom Percussion!

  • I'm so in love with this wonderful woman. She seems like a very humble and nice person.

  • @Thoemas ...you probably lick your own ass after shitting, too.

  • @Thoemas ...you probably lick your own arse after shitting, too.

  • Who knew that a box would eventually be considered an instrument...and a damn good one too!

  • I use my cajon to record in some of my songs. Check my channel out!

  • roflmao

  • the cajon is peruvian, we dont need chords inside to have a nice sound like spanish , and hey spanish cajon say thank you to CAITRO SOTO he gives the cajon tyo paco de lucia

  • Yeh Great exercises very cool...

..You should check out the Band Ninja Horses they have Cajon player....

  • Hello, first congratulate you on your technique and sound. I'm a Spanish flamenco percussionist. I would love to exchange ideas with you, I am very interested to know how to play the cajon other people, everything is learned.

contacted and will send sounds, patterns, exercises and what you want, like you can send me my. I have my own recording studio in Seville and I can send mine for records input some of your style and so exchange ideas.

    Once again congratulations!

  • ela eh muito eh gostosa

  • lol.. watched this to hear the sound a pick-up inside a cajon can produce. turns out the damn thing isn't even plugged in. great video :/

  • Yeah arms just like any instrument anybody can cop a simple beat or tune. But to get real good and detailed takes time and skill

  • i bet i can do this, its like playing on a computer desk, hit in the middle, its deeper, hit on the edge, its higher, this would be simple

  • If I was playing that Id always worry about falling back and eating shit haha!

I like it though the snap at the edge is very unique and articulate... though I would kinda dig a fatter bass from it.

  • Hey guys, awesome vid.. can anyone check out my cajon covers? some feedback and tips is really needed, i only just got my cajon for christmas :)

  • Great, great demonstration, I've got to get myself one of these since I can't record drums properly. It should be a breeze recording this thing.

  • i bought a Tycoon cajon and i paid 260$. it sound like crap. theres no much low pitch and i dont have the "tap" sound for the snare, every spot sounds the same... should i pay more or is it just a bad deal?

  • LMAO i like how slipknotmegafan and biomorfo said the same thing and slipknot got thumbs down. hahaha thats what you get for having a shitty name.

  • Has anyone purchased the Burl Pickup Cajon and compared it to using two mics? If so which sound did you like better? I'm trying to decide which route I should go. The pickup cajon or go with the standard string and purchase my own microphones.

  • Jen--what brand of cajon bag did you say you like in this video?

  • It's the meinl bag that you can order either separately or with the cajon. Get it on BoomBoom Percussion !

    Rock On.

    Jen Lowe

  • Dear Jen , you have to say that this instrument is from Peru, is for african peruvian music mostly, and if you want to know the best performer in Peru is Maria del Carmen Dongo and her band Manos Madera. Check her website. Thank you

  • Muito bom! Gostei de mais da apresentação do instrumento.

    Obrigado por postar.

  • hmmmm sexy!!!. nice video!!!

  • thank you very much for sharing

  • good instrument and beautiful girl

  • i've read that the bad thing about this one is it doesn't sound to good if it isnt plugged in, so if you just wanted to do something like on the street it doesnt sound good

  • You read wrong... It sounds great with or withount a mic. If you talking about VOLUME that`s a different thing...

Nice girl, nice box... I take both of them...
