  • ur a tight end number 16?

  • oh yaah i has that same railgun!

  • Thanks so much for the video and the chart. Helps a lot!

  • lol, this is well shameful, im the drummer for my band and i learnt to pinch harmonic before my guitarist did -__-

  • 4:20 thats my fucking note (septimal harmonic 7th)

  • 6:10 awesome ! thank you Justin

  • my grandpa called, he want his hat back!

  • You don't realise how many harmonics there are

  • TE is for technique....

  • Thanks! I had no clue how to make these, but now I can annoy everybody! The bad part is that, it'll hurt you also... But this was an excellent video!

  • sweet child o mine intro is also doable with harmonic for those who diddnt know:D

  • I don't understand when he get closer to the first fret. Do the frets start getting to Harmonic Notes on them? It's got me confused.

  • I figured out how to play the intro riff to sweet child of mine with only harmonics. I'll have to post that in a video.

  • i dont understand what the different between harmonics and "pressing down the finger at that fret" is except it sounds different.

  • the point is you create a node i.e. a point where the string does not vibrate. You get that anyway at the ends of the strings when you play normally, but this creates other point(s) (as justin demonstrated where you can place your finger without stopping the string). It creates a nice ringing tone you don't get when you pluck the string

look at Node (physics) on wikipedia if your interested XD the principle applies. it shows why you can't always get harmonics (i think aristotle noted that too :P

  • thanks!

  • thats why you only compared the 12th fret harmonic with the "pressing down the finger at the 12th fret" , just try the 5th fret one and you will hear it^^

  • u're gettin old man...

  • i can get the pinch harmonics right but i dont understand this lol

  • nice lesson, very nice work.

  • Red Barchetta- Rush uses harmonics...

  • i like your videos, but i can barely hear what you say

  • I'm pretty sure there's others, like 2.7.

  • kings of leon - knocked up uses shit loads, charmer enall and loadsa others

  • harmonic = create a diff way the sound spreads out. (thts the best i can explain it)

  • the intro for Red Barchetta by Rush is all natural harmonics!! awesome song , and another great lesson!!

  • Rush is seventy percent of why i get up every morning. stone temple pilots are the other 30 haha

and f'in right red barchetta is amazing, intro is sweet

  • thank you so much i never understood this topic. Now, i did :)

  • I wanna understand pinch harmonic, I've seen the video you've made but I can't make them anytime, or anyhow like you hear on really good songs..

  • practice and you will nail it =)

  • @Pwnrage92 Thats the thing, I don't know what to practice on :)

  • well as he says in the vid, let the thum just catch the string right after the pick hits it, and if u have a stratocaster he shows you exactly where you will find one harmonic =)

  • Yes the info below is correct. Also make sure you take ur thumb off imediately and dont press too hard.

Less known brands are a bit difficult to get on.

  • practice, practice, and more practice. you'll get it.

  • actually u cant hear ur pinch harmonics if your switch is all the way up. i set my switch on my guitar all the way down so only the bottom pickups are working.

  • @xlaz13x WOW dude you are a noob on the guitar are you not? You said you had that selector switch down so only your bottom pickups would work? Dude i think what you mean is you have you selector switch on the bridge pickup. Theres the neck pickup and then the bridge pickup get it right

  • @SVBarnard That's what he said! He said both, bridge and bottom. You should watch and listen carefully before putting some negative remark. He did hundreds of video and quite famous at You Tube.

  • Justin, very helpful as always. U have a gift for teaching. My whole family has learned guitar tips from you. 4 people with 4 guitars ( plus a dog sans guitar) are sitting before the iMac looking @ you - just a picture for ya:)

  • best lesson on natural harmonics.. most of the lessons only talk about the ones on the 12th 7th and 5th fret. and i like how you explain about it, but i still wonder how harmonics can excist...

  • check out his te 010 lesson. he explains how they work (exist)

  • @richardshapiroII

    thanks

  • wat happens is that when u pluck the string the sound is created by the vibration caused on the string(u probably know dat)

  • the string vibrates creating "waves"...as in a wave created on the surface of water(ripple)...a series of ups and the same amount of downs...the string acts as a wave source whose both ends are tied...so some of the waves get canceled(cuz the highs and lows are created at the same point and for ex. -5+5= 0!)...these points are called nodes...touching these points on the string causes harmonics to be produced!

    cheers! :)

  • at the 12th fret(lyk justin sandercoe explains) u get the first harmonic bcuz u divide the string into two equal halves...and ont he 7th and 19th fret u get the 2nd harmonic cuz u divide the string into 3 equal parts...and as u keep on dividing the string equally in length u can get umpteen number of harmonics(just in theory-not practically!)

  • try blurry by puddle of mud... cool harmonics in that song

  • Justin, you are the greatest. Thank you.

  • great video. red barchetta (rush) intro is played with harmonics, so try it :)

  • What is an unnatural harmonic?

  • Pinch harmonic - you make them by touching the string with your thumb, just after you hit it with pick.

  • like pinch harmonic?

  • artificial harmonics

  • Hmm maybe you should try teaching michelle by tommy emmanuel that would be a good song to learn that uses harmonics.

  • what harmonics was he playing for that first melody, the first door bell ring type thing.

  • Hi , justin ,really like your lessons .

about natural harmonic , listen to the intro of "find another way" from Heavens edge .

    90' rock band . ...I'll hope it's not tap harmonic : )

  • its a harp harmonic i think. Justin has video on it

  • JUSTINS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @naf360 or we could not :)

    great vid justin

  • Great lesson Justin, I hadn't given the natural harmonics this much thought. Keep it up!

  • Look at these fools commenting for no reason....fucking racists....lol. As for me I will continue this lesson
