You could do cardio for ages but you only burn calories while youre actually doing it. If you weight lift you burn calories during and hours after it and when youre sleeping so weight lifting is actually more effective. Ive also found that not eating much doesnt help you cut the gut in the long run because anything you eat gets stored plus you end up burning your important body mass away and become skinny instead of lean.

Anyway to answer your question if you do have a gym membership use the "chest press" machine and dumbell press instead of bench press. you can also do variations of push ups, all push ups work your chest but wide grip push ups will definitely tear up your chest!
