Here is possible solution to reduce eminant domain battles.Before the sale f any home or property can take place the buyer must agree on eminant domain price with that local goverment , that price can not be changed and home's condition must be maintained to present condition or better. This forces an end lowballing and the buyer can walk away. This price is guaruteed throughout that curret ownership. Though there are details stilled be worked out, and many have liked this idea.

The tragedy about New London is that the property in question is now standing vacant, Pfizer's pulling 1,400 jobs out of New London w/in 2 years & moving most of them to Groton, as a cost-cutting measure. The spirit of eminent domain is to allow projects for "the common good" to go forth, when there is no other alternative but to choose a specific tract to develop this "common good". How do we define common good? Well, it's a Hospital a school a road, something that wiil belong to the public. But when a Mayor wants to take your land to sell it to a developer to build for private purposes( real estate or commercial businesses), that is not eminent domain. It is an illegal land grab.

Unfortunately, nobody in this country owns their land. We all have to pay rent to the government to live on our own land through property taxes. As long as property taxes exist nobody owns their property.

Eminent domain as a principle and eminent domain abuse are two different things.

The classic example is highway construction. An absolute right of private property would have practically prevented cities from growing in the US. Not to mention interstate commerce.

So read up on what eminent domain is about, and decide whether you want to fight abuse of it (as in this case) or whether you can credibly advocate removal of it entirely.
