See, what this guy is doing is a lot more interactive then the things deadmau5 or Skrillex do. See how much he was doing? Most mainstream dubstep producers have their shit pre made and just cut in and make them loop, thats all they have to do. I appreciate shit like this much more.
@Demonologiez actually they only do that for recording in the studio. if you watch a lot of skrillex's videos youll see him toying with the pitch, making silent pauses for the crowd to sing to with songs with lyrics, and sometimes he even makes new drops for a little more spice to live songs.
@Demonologiez It's kinda funny, because deadmau5 doesn't even make dubstep, and plus sure this is sick, but deadmau5 addressed "live" dance. He said "You can make really good dance music, live for a limited amount of time. Or you can make really shitty dance music live for as long as you want." What this guy is doing is good and interactive but it's not really possible to do this for 2-3 hours unless you're the god of music
@ChannelExplosiveness I was using TouchOSC, it's amazing app and I think it is still only $5 (not sure though). They have one called TouchAble now, which is nice; but I don't see what makes it worth so much more (not sure on the price but I think it's upwards of $20).
@roflmao2916 Thanks! I've been working on a bunch of stuff since then, ALOT more effort in these. Hopefully I'll have something soon and I'll try and touch up that one and post it.
Your composition had too many breaks in it to be truly good, but if you were composing live, I guess it's excusable. I hope you got an A+ for this though, good show!
@KittenCollision I appreciate the constructive criticism! I've been working in ableton and trying to improve my skills. I definitely agree with what you said, hopefully I'll be posting something better soon.
@Suck3it I was using two small midi controllers. Korg Nano Series: NanoKontrol and NanoPad. They're really useful for how inexpensive they are. Great to start off with. I found mine on Amazon for about $40 each; although, you may be able to find them cheaper now.
@DJHeroMist lol no its the lyrics for a very old deadmau5 song called "this is also the hook" whatt you said before is what it says at the end of the song...
@Umbre11aMan I didn't have time to set up a full rig, just about 5 minutes between acts lol. I was not anticipating the lecture hall having so many people in it lol. All they had was a headphone jack into the hall's sound system. I was still surprised at how loud it got though.
its a legit live set up.. real good for your 'first attempt' although im sure youve probably practiced... the bass you use is super super simple too.. add some filthyness to those bass noises and youll have yourself a track.
I'm doin something like that for my matura, and for fun (might check out my channel ;)). still looking for a decent way to perfor it live, but i'm probably gonna use the Roland SP-404 SX.
@716TV Thanks! Yes that is an iPad. I was running Ableton Live on my MacBook Pro, and using the iPad as a midi controller. The program on the iPad is called TouchOSC, it's only $5 in the app store! I achieved the dubstep "wobble bass" sound by using the instrument "Sampler" in Ableton Live. I used a square/saw hybrid waveform as my sample and had a LFO working a 12dB bandpass filter on the sample.
