why would sum1 sell a 4x4 v8 to cash for clunkers??? of course a 4x4 isnt guna get great gas mileage. i have a 2000 dakota v6 4x4 that got 10mpg wen i got it a year ago. i was lucky to see 15 highway. all stock. 3k in parts later im almost done and getting about 15 city. now i need skids on it and a paint job (around 600 to do it myself). then maybe later a v8 swap and a lift. ill do that myself to. a mechanic isnt touching this truck again. they mess up more stuff than they fix.

I just bought a 95 Dakota Magnum V8 4X4 with 110000km (70000miles) for $1500 Canadian. It is the perfect work truck: rugged, powerful, and able to get in and out of anything. Also, the mileage is not that bad either. It is better than in my previous work trucks, some of which had V6. Hauling a daily load of about 500 pounds of equipment I like to have an engine that doesn't struggle with it. How environmental is it to bag a smaller engine to death with too much work?

I just got my Dak back from Zuccato's Auto Care (great mechanics!) and I couldn't be happier. I'm takin' the Dak back in a week for a full AC/heater rebuild and I plan on taking this truck to Alteras for hunting in May. Gas is what, $0.14 a gallon in Iran. And it's $0.12 a gallon in Venezuela? As far as "Guzzling V8s", if people have the money to fuel them, they have the right to buy them. Some people need them for towing, hauling, and other things. Some larger families need SUVs to fit them and move them around.

Gas in Iran is $1.60 per gallon last time I heard. My father lives there. However each person is entitled to a certain amount of subsidized gasoline. The subsidized gasoline is $0.40 per gallon. When each person runs out of their "share" they have to pay the full $1.60.

Well if the LA 318 V8 wasn't a good motor, then they wouldn't have been so tremendously popular and successful for use in a wide range of vehicles, including many police vehicles.

It is noted, however that the 318 was modified in 1978 in order to accept lead free fuels (Lean Burn) by hardening the exhaust valve seats. Maybe that was a source of your problems?

I read an article written by a guy who owned one of the 9 1971 4 Speed Hemi Charger Super Bee's; and within the first year of ownership, he said the engine threw a pushrod, and he got it fixed for free because it was still under warranty, but the mechanic at the dealer told him that the engine was such a pain in the ass to work on that he never wanted to see that car in there again (I am a mopar guy, btw)

The drivetrain, which is typically the most sought after part, is destroyed. I believe the auto wreckers can only offer to sell parts if they can retrieve them for a period of six months, then they can not sell them.

The majority of the program, if not all, is a complete waste. Trying to defend such a terrible idea is not relevant.
