  • Love this song,since the 80's.love ABC

  • Your vid is popular on Costa Rica

  • Can't beat the 80s !

  • Excellent!

  • this is prob one of thier most underated tracks.I love L.O.V,but posion arrow ,and tears are not enough are over played. My personal fav is BE NEAR ME.XXXXXX.

  • Absolutely ABC could have done the same thing after Lexicon Of Love but they didn't. The production on Beauty Stab was dirtier than that by Trevor Horn on LOV. But the songs came through and the Beauty Stab album was excellent, even though it was less successful. And they did it again by changing for Zillionaire. I still love ABC and always will.

  • ABC after the brilliant Lexicon of love album it took courage to change the sound but Beauty Stab was an under rated album and so they continued to push the boundries with their following albums, great stuff. ABC for ever.

  • Verse is awesome

    prechorus doesn't fit

    sos chorus is soso

  • the diver is hot, but he'd be old now :(

  • Absolutely fab. What else can i say ?

  • As a black person, I have been into this song since the 80's and everytime i mention this song to my white friends, they say that this is their worst song and they dont like it, and I honestly don't get it...maybe it's too urban/r&b for them. It's the same for Human League's "Human too"....

  • @jovanna242 I'm white and I've always loved this song ... so we know it's possible : )

  • @jovanna242 I always thought this was one of their best songs?! Also ABC always had a bit of soul, its in his vocal style. I love synths mixed with soulful vocals - Yaz and Inner City for example. Can't beat it.

  • @jovanna242 Whatever the color of your friends.... These guys have yes, strong roots in R&B and that's something brilliant! Trust me! I'm a music producer.

  • @RockMogul. don't understand how anyone could not love this song.. but it's true a lot of blacks love this song.. Especially Hip hop heads like myself..

  • @jovanna242, that sucks for them because this is my favorite song from them besides Date Stamp, and MINNEAPOLIS. I too am black and LOVE ABC!

  • @jovanna242 Hi. As a white person, I have always loved ABC. They have a good sound no matter what they play. I wish I looked like the singer..but I don't. My white friends don't really like ABC. I think it's a matter of taste, not race. We have good taste you and I ..

  • @jimmyofaden, Very true.. great comment.

  • eso es! eso es!..... lol

  • I love this song

  • Beautiful Fairlight driven track.

  • This song now hits me more as an impassioned call for the protection and survival of the White race and Western nations and civilisation!

  • great song, absolutely cr*p video; what were they thinking ?

  • It's like R & B for really, really White People.

  • cool......che ricordi...

  • @puccio68 ti lasciano l'amaro in bocca per come scorre il tempo, e riascoltarli ti riempe di tristezza!!!

Comunque erano anni di grandi successi!!!!

    Serenella

  • God Damn!!!! i want a clock like that. Does anybody know what their called?!? please help me

  • i loved ABC's style S.O.S is a perfect example..this & How to be a Millionaire (cartoon clip) are my faves..

  • I agree 100%. Beauty Stab is great. I love that lp. S.O.S. is a Great Love Song!

  • I must begin Project Time Travel so that I may travel back through time to the late 1970's and early 80's to hear real music. Thank you.....lol

  • i thought this was there best song, only made 39 in the charts though

  • This is my FAVORITE ABC song! I've never seen it before (you wrote that its rare.) I adore 80's music. THANKS!!

  • Loved this Band way back when The Lexicon of Love was great where are all the songs Look of Love , All of my Heart ???

Guppy if you read this meet me in the 80's :)

  • @sky157100 Hey I might be a bit late - but ill see you in 1985 if that's OK FF XX

  • I love this song reminds me of when I was a teenager!

  • I wish the original Lineup would reunite and do a tour for their fans. That would be grand.

  • i had that 7 single T-T

  • Nice and smooth...ABC style at it best...

Never heard this song before, I would love it from a long time ago...

Thanks Martin Fry and his crew, for your stylish music.

  • ;) So a beautiful song ♥

  • Martin Fry and Tony Hadley: two voices perfect for any train station. Think about it.

  • back when the doomsday clock read 11:57pm!

  • I love this!!!!!!

  • Beauty Stab was ABC trying to get away from the Trevor Horn slickness of Lexicon of Love. Although Beauty Stab isn't my favorite ABC album, this track still moves me!

  • what a great song, very soothing and melodic.

  • I enjoyed that indeed, thank you (and youtube) for making things like this visible. Beauty Stab is a great album and a pleasant supruse for me after I descovered ABC via The Lexicon of Love.

  • Those were the best years of pop music in the UK, they are the songs you remember because they mean something, not like the songs and music of nowadays.

  • One of the most heartfelt and beautiful songs I've heard. I was watching the"Made In Sheffield" DVD the other day, there was an interview with Stephen Stapleton,he struck me as one of the most honest and down to earth UK pop stars of the early 80s along with the lads from China Crisis.

  • You can really get the "Art of Noise" influence on this track. I thought this group was brillaint and the sax play was unrecognized. These guys weren't big in NA but I heard them when I was visiting with a friend in Oxford Poly in the 80s en route to Africa.

  • good song

  • I must have been one of the chosen few whom actually had this album " Beauty Stab". It was Great to bad most of the world never heard of it. ABC were ahead of their time.

  • me too - i loved this album but nobody else payed any attention...fry was a genius who didn't need Mr horn - but what a debut!

  • cheesiest video ever, that being said, fantastic song. Melodic and well crafted. First heard this song while stationed in Germany, all my punk friends laughed at me for it.....But they went out and bought it also

  • ABC paid a heavy price for their creative bravery. The obvious thing to do was to record The Lexicon of love Pt II. That was exactly what fans and critics alike wanted and expected. Fortunately for us, ABC did the exact opposite. Beauty stab was a radical departure. This was a time when bands like ABC, Soft Cell and Talk Talk, were willing to risk commercial suicide, by being true to themselves. Time has vindicated all three.

  • you know you roll up the windows at a red light but got to listen to this stuff loud. Oh ghosh I love this stuff. Vid is way beyond cheesy but the medium was quite young... yeah so were we......

  • I love this song.

  • I think at one time ABC were my favorite band. I saw them(well Martin Fry and a new line up) in 2000 and all the fans knew every word of every song.

  • a geat song from the 80's a bit chessy video but love the song.. still beter than most of the crap today

  • way better!

  • This was on their second album right?

    I remember it - barely.

Listened the shit out of their first album. I bought the second one and listened to it little. Moved on in 1984

  • not gay......

  • I heard this on RTE 2FM this morning (Thanks, Dave Redmond!!). Hadn't heard it in years. I'd forgotten how good this track is.

  • At that time ABC would have benefited more had someone decided to spend more than 37p on all their videos.

  • An Amazing Song!! Reminds me of a real sad time for me......

  • Haven't seen that since years ... I have somewhere the VHS with that video. Thanks for uploading it :)

  • This a beautiful song -prob the best they ever recorded.Notice how toward the end it starts to sound very similar to "Under Pressure".Martin Fry was an above average Bowie clone at the time,so it probably isn't such a surprise.

  • @abagail4me What you have to realise is that just about everyone of a certain age and just about everyone of any note, musically, at that time was influenced by Bowie. Good spot though, I'd never noticed the similarity before.

  • this song would be a good background tune for deadliest catch during the closing credits

  • I was practically a social outcast in high school for loving these guys. It was about Korn, DMX, or Backstreet Boys if you wanted to be cool. But I didn't give a shit about any of those rubbish acts. I was into ABC!!!!

  • @therealsoulproduct and you were also a faggot

  • @immak1ng Fuck you and the atomic mass that spawned you!!!!

  • @therealsoulproduct

abc was early 80's, and korn and bsb early 90's, so what are you talking about?

Or is it that you prefered abc's 80's music in the early 90's while the others listened to korn and bsb?

  • @3DPeter Yes, the latter. I went to high school in the late 90's, and that was when pop music just began to suck. So I found solace with the great music from the early 80's that I loved in my younger years.

  • @therealsoulproduct Brilliant! I'm still into ABC and proud of it! Vive la 80's!

  • @therealsoulproduct It's all good man. All those catz sample stuff that you like.

  • @therealsoulproduct

People that go against the current are always deemed unworthy by the rest. Rest assured that the majority aren't necessarily the vanguard of taste, nor of intellect. Neither are they as hip or as savvy as they may think themselves to be.

I'd rather live in relative obscurity than give in the whims of the mass-market driven buffoons, that wouldn't know quality if it hit straight between-the-eyes!

  • @n8tureboy Very eloquently stated, good sir.

  • @therealsoulproduct They're not rubbish they're all good and ABC are good too. :)

I enjoy them all(cept for maybe Korn) why so close minded??

Awesome track this anyway, ABC were the shit!

  • @Seany06 Um, no.....they're rubbish in comparison to the brilliance of ABC. Like, who's even listening to those acts anymore these days outside their fanbase?

  • @therealsoulproduct I don't care, I just enjoy good music, you seem pretty close minded. Your loss. ;)

  • @Seany06 Um...no, you're sadly mistaken. My musical tastes are very diverse ranging from ABC to Prince to Otis Redding to Led Zeppelin to Bob Marley to OutKast to Thelonious Monk to System of a Down to Beethoven and so forth. Those names I mentioned before are names that I don't consider to be good music. Just because they were popular doesn't mean they'll stand the test of time. I'm sorry, but that's how I feel.

  • @therealsoulproduct and you think crap like system of a down will last.................................not likely, its music of its crappy nu metal time.

  • @rwk1983 Don't hate on System, man, especially if you haven't given them a listen. They're a classic Metal group with substance and I'm not even the biggest Metal fan.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrThrib No, actually, I'm a guy. So I really don't have much of a reason to like the "Backpassage Boys" anyways.

  • @therealsoulproduct you are truly the real soul product.

  • @ilgomar4 Why thank you.

  • @therealsoulproduct amen brother i was the same way im still into them

  • @therealsoulproduct Now it's time for you to get some pay back!!

They thought that they were pretty 'smart' in high school, I wonder how they

will feel being held by the authorities.

Everyone of them must answer for what they did to you. Revenge is

served best when the microwave is set at defrost.

You were cool and those horrible people weren't.

It's your move, I bet 2000 people would help you get your

rightful vengence on those terrible people who never appreciated

    your love for ABC!

  • Just been listening to Beauty Stab..what a seriously underrated album and a bit of a lost gem (like most of ABC's work since Lexicon)..worth buying if you've never heard it.

  • wack juice

  • I loved ABC from the first time I heard them. Such a distinct sound. This is one of their best.

My ABC CD is one of may favourites.

    Thanks for posting.

  • This track would be perfect for a an R&B cover...

  • Beauty Stab was written off as ABC trying to be heavy metal!!!!

I think the whole album is brilliant

    //

  • @Sproutsaint I disagree. I think Beauty Stab is totally forgetable. However, this is a good one.

  • @Sproutsaint gonna get this, now. Ta for the review.

  • @Sproutsaint

heavy metal? the rest of the album must not have been like this? Oh yea , welcome back from two years in the future.

  • still a great band

  • Lexicon of love a timeless album, still my favourite after 25 years !

  • GREAT track from one of the greatest "fashion" bands of the eighties! Lexicon of Love ruled!

  • top band , top tune AND from yorkshire dos'nt get any better does it see ya sat lads at arena

  • what a fucking tune!!

memory lane for me back in the 80's, should have been a monster tune, the best album they ever did, saw them live a few years back!!!!

  • I can remember being on a beach in St Malo, Brittany, back in the early 80's, I was with a mate, and we were gonna swim out to these rock's, and I had visions of us drowning or being stranded, and this tune was playing through my mind. Doesn't exactly give you confidence does it, and yes we bottled it.!

  • brings back so many memories ... wow .. where did the last 24 yrs go ?

  • one of their best, a classic indeed!

    thanks a bunch for posting.

  • This song is the best sing for me in ABC.

  • it is there best song a classic -

the backing singers at the end are actually all of frankie goes to hollywood singing ba ba bara ba ba,HONEST

  • I remember at the time being shocked that this stalled at about number 39, to me it was an obvious top ten track.

In fact if this was covered by one of those reality tv groups it would be massive.

  • It's a good track but not a great track. There was plenty of better stuff at the time...

  • love this song. cool

  • Thanks for this..the song was totally ignored after 'That Was Then..' and so no wonder the video is rare...but it really is a wonderful track. Thanks.

  • better than the Jonas brothers sos song

  • GREAT SONG THIS

  • One of my favourite songs from Abc!

Sad that band did`t make many good album but "Lexicon of love":(

  • Good song; I had never listened to it neither seen it.

  • This was from the difficult 2nd Album problem.....So ABC turned around and Bit the hand that Fed Them..........Brave but Failed!

    Great track though!

  • SURE!!!!!!!!11

  • i am not gay

  • I loved this song......not a hit here but so subtle.

The production they had prior to this album could never live up to expectations....shame the public can't listen with open ears !

  • He has a cool and chic way of singing!!!

  • these guys had the best ear for sonic candy. great band - if only bands could write great pop music like this now.

  • wow...this was phenomenal...but i must say i'm glad courtney taylor-taylor went on to form the dandy warhols

  • Reminds me of the old pirate(illegal underground) radio station Sunshine 299 that broadcast from a run down farmhouse near Ludlow, England in the mid 1980s. This song was ignored by Radio 1 and other English commercial radio stations, but was enthusiastically championed by Sunshine to its audience.

  • Interesting that you mention Sunshine radio. I had forgotten about that. I lived in Ludlow during that period and am now rediscovering a lot of this mid 80s stuff. Fiction Factory, Feels like heaven is another. I was a big fan also of Scritti Politti. Saw them play in London last Christmas. Still producing great sounds. Cheers.

  • One for my all time Top 10, alongside Marvin Gaye, The Associates, Scott Walker and Evelyn Champagne King!

    God I love this tune...

  • One of my favorite ABC songs!

    Chill to this...

  • Saw them live in June 2006 in NYC what a great live band. Martin and David Palmer were the only original members. They put on a great show, I love hearing Be Near Me LIVE.

  • ass...oh, ass!

  • ass...oh, ass!

  • By default or design, a great song and a great album. This band's first two albums were treasures in my opinion and were wasted on much of the world. Everyone knows "Look of Love", and many "Poison Arrow", but most every song on Beauty Stab and Lexicon of Love were near perfect. Moreover, they spoke to people who longed for more from life and love. More beauty, more joy and, sadly, more tears. SpurrierTwo, just stop cold turkey and don't dwell on misspent youth or you'll misspend adulthood too.

  • yes you know spot on!!

    especially the tears

  • Thank you for posting this. I consider "Beauty Stab" the greatest pop album ever recorded.

  • Beauty Stab is a very underrated album IMO. It can proudly stand shoulder to shoulder (dreadful phrase) with Lexicon Of Love as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for posting the vid.

  • 100% agree beauty stab showed the versatility of Martin Fry and ABC they moved with the times and experimented with music and didnt plough the same old furrow. They were a great band!

  • I didn`t know there was a video of this song. Thnx for sharing.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! Midlife crisis dude here---drinking the vodka---42 here---damn, does midlife crisis hit good looking people much harder--especially, when they are single?? THANKS AGAIN--SOS is my theme and I adore my ABC! THANKS THANKS THANKS! This song sooooooooooo captures the zenith of my youth and my life theme now--SOS! :)

  • midlife crisis dudette here: try having a love affair on youtube.

i've been captivated by someone here...

  • that would be a mistake.

  • must you persist in shoving it in my face?

you are starting to piss me off NEIL.

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you so much for posting this video.. I had never seen it, but I had the album way back when. Who would have guessed? I feel sixteen again--for the two minutes during the song... Thank you.

  • Beauty Stab. Great!

I had this album only on tape. So, yesterday I looked on internet and bought the remastered version (from 2005) on CD...........

Thanks for posting this video and bring back those nice memories.

  • Yes, Whoever posted this is brilliant... This was truly the BEST ABC album by far, Beauty Stab.. SO good, and I wish they would have done more videos from this one. Anyone know if there's a HEY CITIZEN! Video?? I would love to see that as well..

    Cheers,

    John Gray

    Chicago

  • Mmmm not heard Beauty Stab But come on Lexicon Of Love was a damn Masterpiece

  • Martin Fry was so underated as a singer. Such talent to be so overlooked by the pop pirahnas of today, these pop singers today exploiting themselves in the tabloids.

  • Despite ABC enjoying massive success in 1982 with 3 top 10 hits, it seemed that when they emerged in late 1983 with a different style with 'That Was Then' which did make the UK top 20, it seemed that their original fans had deserted them.

This was a classic ABC song that only just crept into the top 40 in early 1984 reaching only no. 39. Top 10 hits continue to elude them when they re-emerged in 1987 with 'When Smoky Sings' peaked at no. 11 in June that year.

  • Same w me..I thought Beauty Stab was rubbish when it came out but as i listened to it i liked it more n more..now i think it is brilliant

  • Great band, great album, great song, great singer

  • Even I loved Lexicon I was a great supporter of STAB too,... It was the consequent evolution of sound .. Martyn, ur a great songwriter, thank u from Germany!

  • Well, it seems this song reminds deep feelings to many people... it also hapens to me. But it tuned out all right, so I have a special care for this song. The end is very nice...it seems a chorus of hope!

  • one cool million for one cool caress.... what great lyrics reminds me when i would have paid a million for a caress cos 1st love costs and abc remind me of that ... thanks guys love the memories ... u still rock

  • Love Beauty Stab....always felt like it was ABC doing their hard rock album

  • After The Lexicon Of Love anything was going to be a disappointment but Beauty Stab sounds better with every year that goes by.

By far the best track on the album.

  • Sorry, you can't compare the lexicon of love and beauty stab, they are so different !

  • I can actually listen to this song now w/o getting teary eyed, it reminded me of my failed marriage. Very poignant indeed!

  • Greeeeaaaat!

Thank you. I can enjoy it.

  • Great moody track from a highly underrated album. Thanks.

  • It took me many years to admit in polite company that I prefer Beauty Stab to Lexicon. But I got there in the end.

  • yeah, i thought i was only one who knew about their Beauty stab album! now i see others love it too! it's got such a unique sound...they rock!

  • good video

  • OMG!!! i had thast 7 inch single i love that song !!!

  • hilarious

  • ABC, zo wat hebben die mooie muziek gemaakt! Thanks

  • Nice melody!!

  • never thought i would see this again

  • Brilliant, I have been hoping to find this underrated tune from ABC for a while. Thanks for posting it!!

  • Great song..nice video in 1984. that was pop at its best.thanx!
