Wow! Thanks for posting. I remember seeing this way back when it aired. It was the first time I saw an interview on tv with Kirby... the greatest comic book artist ever!
I think he gave a decent interview. I've read that, when compared to Stan, Jack gave "bad" interviews...but I don't see that here. He seems well spoken and very charming. Long live the king...
JACK KING KIRBY: The Picasso of our Graphic comic age. His work will Never die. P.S. It's such a relief to see a really gregarious , and happy looking guy. Instead of those Sad , mean and miserable looking wannabe Goth-Artist.
Somewhat condescending treatment of Kirby here, with the cheesy sound effects. I think Kirby actually was trying to found a new religion, with himself as puppet master.
I love King Kirby and comic books but hate the "Biff bam pow" representation we always get in the media. It's like we'll never lose the stigma of being a juvenile medium and we have no one to blame but ourselves.
It's too bad none of today's comic-book writers can imbue their characters and stories with that "transcendent feeling" Kirby always had in his. Of course, since all of today's writers are just a bunch of inbred fanboy hacks, I guess that's really no surprise.
You may not believe me, but when I was a boy in Southern California my sister was friends with Mr. Kirby's grand-daughter. I was at his house numerous times, swimming in his pool and spending the day there. I wish I still had the comics and posters he gave me. I can tell you, honestly, he was a sweet, kind, wonderful man. Visits to Mr. Kirby's, or as my mother called him "Mr. Creator" are likely the fondest of my childhood.
well ive got the same last name.. but not the same talent... lol..

@Dyler you have to realize this was from the 80's and about comics from the late 70's.
back then, that's what comics were, a juvenille medium.

Entertainment tonight in the 80's was pretty sickening. The female and male reporters would fake laugh through everything. It was such a cheesy show.

Jack should have drawn her as a superheroine called Captain Catherine in a wonder woman pose, swinging a microphone around like a magic lasso.
She would wrap it around people to get the truth out of them during interviews.
