Love the tips and agree with all of them :-) Except the Hello one, I think the Hello/Hi is needed to open the conversation, but I also think if you're interested to chat with someone with a scence of humour say it on your profile and the person engaging you should add a witty comment/question IN ADDITION to the mandatory Hello/Hi ! (-; Where you from ? Hi from Montreal Canada, Holla !
@MiamiPride2012 - nope :p my parents are from south america.. but was born here in Australia.. and lived in the U.S. for about 9 years - so my accent is kind of all over the shop! :p
@roan180 - hehe... it could be a dialectical difference.. but it could also be just the wierd way I say it.. haha.. I've heard people say both things so maybe it's just a person to person thing? :p
@clicheanonperson Things have changed a bit since I made the video.. with the old GrindR, usually I just wouldn't reply if not interested... I didn't always have time to write a big message expaining that i wasn't interested. But with the NEW version of GrindR (you can save pre-typed messages) so now I have a little pre-typed message that says "thanks for the message, but I'm not really available for chatting right now". people appreciate it and doesn't take me any time to send
@clicheanonperson - haha, thanks for that! :) I have learnt my lesson about the knee slapping though! LOL.. but glad to see it didn't deter you from liking this video :)
@darrylt Thanks! :) it's good to see that people "get" what I'm saying, hehe. Generally the people that get all angry and abuse me over this video are the ones that... don't have a face pic... don't like to put their stats up... get really upset when someone doesn't reply to them, etc. hehe... I guess those are the kinds of people who I wouldn't get along with anyway! :p
Good Tips.Stuff everyone should know. Do u have tips for the "pretty boy" assholes who are there in hopes that they will land a date with "GOD". Oh and everyone else go screw themselves
@BillyboyCowboy3 - oh no! I feel ashamed to say.. I love the pretty boys! haha.. that's probably why I didn't have a go at them in the video.. hehe.. but yeah, I know where you're coming from. But I do have to say.. people do have the right to choose who they chat to.. so if pretty boys want to only talk to other really good looking guys, that's their right :)
Awesome video! I'm gonna be honest though, it seems a bit of a dangerous app. If someone who was say 15 years old and they met someone who was 20 something it could mean bad news. But I guess generally it's a positive thing!
@BenjaminFitchh - Hey there, thanks for the comment :) I do have to say though, it's not any more dangerous then internet dating... or RSVP.. or gaydar.. or any other form of "online" meeting people. If people misuse it, then it can be bad.. I think education is important around safety issues when meeting people online. Then people won't take silly risks and make sure they're safe when meeting someone for the first time..
@rbtbochrist - thanks! :) I have thought about that point a little bit since posting this video... and I guess when you're one of those REALLY hot guys, you must get like 50 "heys" a day.. haha.. so maybe I shouldn't be so quick to judge people for that one :p
And I agree with other users it's a superficial meat factory app that teaches people poor social skills and erodes the gays scenes already degraded social scene
@shamusguy82 Oh please!! Gay guys want to meet someone and fall in love just like everybody else! and it can be hard to meet guys! some people like to go to clubs and get wasted! some people like to use internet dating. and some people like GrindR! They are all valid ways of meeting people. and yes, guys like to have sex as well! so obviosuly a lot of people use it for that too. and p.s. it takes good social skills to be able to have a nice flowing conversation via text chatting..
Very perspective. My thoughts exactly! Although, just a follow up, you forgot "the conversation killer" aka the one who can only reply "LOL" to your, one of many, witty repertoires.
@dsg82 - haha - yeah! Good call there! :) that's a real annoying one.. :p I hate when I've made some excellent clever reply to something and i'm sure they'll love it and come back with something equally as entertaining... and I get "LOL"... :p
One thing to mention w/tip 4 ... Grindr doesn't always deliver messages, I've been in conversations where we've figured out half of each other's messages are actually getting through. Rather than not responding, if there's zero interest in talking to someone just say so or block. They may legitimately think their messages are not going through.
I hate grindr. No one wants to show you their photo, every single person on it plays games, and they act like they're such studs and turn out to be total QUEENS! Have never met anyone worth it. Or they are old guys who ask you how much you charge an hour.
I think its creepy when people ask for my stats. I always disconnect when people do...no better way to put up a red flag that you are about to meet a shallow person who is just trying to get laid then if they wanna see your stats. I want to see a clear photo though. If you are 30 or if you are 20 I dont really care as long as you have something to say and I find you attractive.
@josh1492 - dude, don't sound like a hypocrite. It's shallow to ask for stats? but you want to see a clear photo and make sure they're attractive first? get off it buddy.. You ask for a clear photo for the same reason that somebody wants to know if you're 50 kilos or 150 kilos and if you're 21 or 45, and some people are attracted to shorter or taller guys.. I reckon you shouldn't be calling people creepy when you want to know the exact same information about someone (just in photo form)....
@josh1492 you seriously can't see the hypocricy in your comment? you're allowed to ask for a photo to see if they're attractive (and that's not shallow?) but I'm not allowed to ask how tall someone is because that makes me a creep and shallow? that's just wierd. you're right, we wouldn't date, total double standard there.. I guess that's why I don't usually talk to people that hide all their stats, they usually have something to hide.. what are you hiding? lol :p
@MeowWoofMoo I am attractive..but its the internet so you wont believe me haha. I workout, lift weights, run and eat right. I don't want someone to only like me because of my stats. I want to be liked because they see a connection that is more than just numbers I guess. Relax, I guess I wont hate on people who ask for stats haha. Guess a lot of people would hide stats because they have things to hide.
I actually was talking to someone, was asked on a date after a very decent amount of chatting, then the day before the date he blocked me. He messaged me on facebook previously and when I asked him about why, he said fuck off faggot and that he wasn't gay. . . . I can't handle this online BS, lol. I was so pissed. They need to make an app to eliminate the idiots, lol.
@LRCollier thanks for the compliment :p i was born in Australia, but lived in the U.S. for about 8 years, and been back in Australia since 94.. so the accent's a bit mixed and muddled :p
You're boring and unattractive. Listen to your mother, if you can't say something nice don't say it at all or in other words, Don't talk about things publicly if you're not going to execute the topic in a proper and interesting way.
@raydavis33 - haha - right, resorting to unprovoked insult slinging.. classy. But OK, I can play this game. Talking to me about executing things in an interesting way? you narcissistic idiot - videos of yourself dancing around? lying with your cat admiring yourself in the reflection? you obviously love yourself to the point that you think people are interested in watching you do nothing? at least I say something in my videos.. and obviously kepy you watching for 12 minutes! loser.. seriously :)
Remember the early days of chat rooms where we talked for hours on end without ever seeing someones face. There was a time when we had to go on blind dates and even call someone on the phone without ever seeing a face. Just saying...young gays are spoiled by technology.
@michaelwilliam um, sorry - it's hardly being spoiled.. it is the most basic decent courtesy to show your face when speaking to someone. What we "use to do" was ridiculous.. chatting for weeks without ever being able to see the person you're talking to.. that's not normal. It's like going up to someone with a paper bag over your head and expecting them to talk to you.. not normal. When people won't show their face to me, alarm bells go off and I have no interest in talking to them..
@thewiredtongue I was around at the tail end of that period of time as gay man when technology wasn't very advanced and to be honest I don't think michaelwilliam was actually having a go at you about people not loading face pix up, just saying that we are spoilt (as in its a luxury) today to have that technology. It turning up without ever having seen the guy, only a voice on a phone was pretty dicy! lol. there were some real dogs.
I've been on Grindr a lot the past few days and I agree with everything you said! Although I have been annoyed at people who just say "hi" or "what's up", I'll try to be nicer. Thanks for the tips!!!
Hi! good advices! I completely agree with what u say. Son cosas de lógica y educación pero q muchas personas no las pone en práctica. Eres español no?
Thank you! I am so sick of men just always showing off their penises and not their faces because a lot of peoples bodies look so similar and you can actually really tell who a person can be by their face. Thank you for being intelligent!
I think people should not assume if a guy talks to them they are automatically interested in something sexual, some guys just want to connect with other gay men on a plutonic level, and I think that's great. I found this delusion to be most prevalent amont the 40-50 year olf demographic that thing the 21-20 demographic is going to be attracted to someone old enough to be his father.
@jetwhite - well thanks jetwhite! LOL :p It's always nice to be lusted after! hehe.. I can't return the compliment though cause I have no photo or video of you to see!?!?!?!? ;p
@ripcurl010 - you know buddy, there's a nice way to give someone constructive criticism. I never noticed I was doing it and normally if someone brought that to my attention, I'd say "thanks for the tip". However, your rude and shitty comment (complete with aggressive swearing) leaves much to be desired. P.S. people who can't spell "annoying" are "annoying"... and there's no "s" on the end of "your". So on top of being totally rude, your comment makes you look like an uneducated idiot.
I'm not on grindr but I'm thinking about trying it. Is there a way you can do a group block? Instead of blocking individuals, can you block groups of people like block all profiles of a certain age, or certain body-type, etc so that you won't receive messages from those guys in the first place? That way, my profile won't be seen and messaged by guys I'm not interested if they fit in a category I'm not interested in. That could make things a bit easier.
@vidform haha - yeah, that definitely would make things easier! :p To be honest, I wouldn't use the "don't show people of a certain age group" or "of a certain body type" - cause you never know who's going to appear and say hello. I've met people in the past who totally weren't my type but there was "something" i found attractive about them :) but yeah, it definitely would be a cool tool to have for times when you're interested in meeting a specific type of guy :p grindr suggestion box! hehe
@shakigwenlover - thanks! :p it's a bit of a mixed up and muddled accent :p I was born in Australia, lived in the U.S. for a while, spanish was my first language, etc. hehe.. So it's a bit all over the place :) But I am glad the Australian accent has softened the American accent a bit, hehe. Not that there's anything wrong with the American accent! hehe.
@sylvial1985 I just checked out your profile and you're exactly the type of stupid users I'm talking about in the online world.. no videos of yourself.. no photo.. no stats.. no information... you're just an anonymous nobody who likes to trawl around online... which means - your opinion doesn't count for anything.
