I am sure that on those first roads in the video that were not lit as well, that it looks better to the human eye, the video camera makes it look like you only have one little spot of light. 800 Lumins is great... twice what mine put out. It would be cool if you could make the lights turn with your steering at corners... like the steerable lights on the old Tucker Cars!
Yea, they weren't lit all that well at all. I have a light built into the nose that pivots in and out flush with the body. I can point it up and down with an in cockpit thumb shifter. I have thought about a light as you mention, that could turn with the steering.
@dregerclock Looking at my video again I just realized that the two street lights in my subdivision weren't on. I need a camera that I can mount to the body of my velomobile. This was the beginning of a one day 142 mile ride on Cape Cod. More videos, just never got around to posting them as yet.
I provided a link to AY UP lights in info area up above. More cool details than I have room to type. They are CREE XLamp High Powered LEDs. It's 800 Lumens off the front. What first attracted me to them was the mounting system that would work with the curved surface of my Quest. One light and battery will fit in the palm of your hand. Very light weight. They are listed by AY UP as having a 6 hour run time but I have read magazine reports of them lasting up to 10 hours before dimming.
Panic over here in Europe. People thought the pole shift 'd already happened 'cause the sun was coming up in the west. Turns out it was MewFushisDad with 800 Lumens on his new velomobile.
I've never noticed that here abouts. I rode 2,000 miles this winter and was mostly on the roads as the cycle paths were left snow covered to melt, clear on their own. I might of seen a dozen cyclists all Winter.
This is a tourist destination and we don't have don't have as many cyclists in the height of Summer that you have in Holland during a typical Winter morning commute.
@MewFushisDad We call that positiv poverty. To compensate the absence of a car dutch invented bicycle traffic jams. We have gas stations that exclusively sell energy drinks to fil up the few parts left green along bike paths. When we talk about Cubic Centimeters we mean our stomachs.
@MewFushisDad I'm organizing a recumbent trike meeting on 9the may in Wijk bij Duurstede. Yep, mainly 'open' trikes which are in fact the minority compared to velomobiles over here! Got about 25 folks already. I hope the weather is good and we get to make a lot of material for posting on YT. I expect some velomobiles but since the tour goes through apples and pear blossom to much banana is confusing for local monkeys.
The ride sounds like fun I look foreward to seeing your videos.
We have an impromptu recumbent club here abouts called "Odd Velo's." A wide variety of recumbents are among those in the club with my Quest being the only Velomobile.
I look foreward to the day I get to ride with other Velomobiles.
@MewFushisDad I'd hoped to have some videos of my trip from Italy but the camera failed due to rain. Now I bought a 720 pixels width one for 20 €. Stupid because in a shop there was an Aiptek with 1280 pixels for 69, 95 €. A well, should practice first. I too really liked to comment you gave in your vids. Who needs National Geographic channels nowadays? We have our own 27 speed submarines. Other islanders will follow.
The two videos that I have done are my first try at it. My oldest daughter(it's her camera) is my technical advisor, meaning, she puts my clips together.
There are more to come from the "To The Ferry" ride.
I rode 228 km that day and was pulled over by the police twice.
@MewFushisDad Wow. 228 km! With officers slowing you down. ' No sir. This cannot not be a dutch velomobile design. If you ride 228 km in Dutchland you fall off that island'. ( US police think Holland is a floating island because it has a lot of propellors)
That's why I was riding "To The Ferry", to go to the mainland.
The 1st stop by police was about 72 km into the ride and the 2nd at around 180 km. Two different police departments from two different towns. They didn't have a clue as to what I was.
There might only be 100 or so velomobiles in the whole of the United States. I'm not sure.
My little Island is only about 160 square kilometers. To ride 100 km here one has to ride just about every road on the Island, some of them twice.
isn't it just great to be riding so early in the morning that traffic is virtually zero! In the summer, the temperatures are also more bearable, at least here in Florida.
No blue and red flashing lights on this side of the ferry trip, what a shame. (just kidding)
Since velomobiles are more common in Europe, could you consider to adopt a Dutch accent in your narratives? (just kidding)
I love riding at night, just flying along in the dark.
Just after I went through that flashing light I hit 38.5 mph in a nice big dip in the road. Coming home after riding all day I hit 39 on the same dip, again in the dark.
I've been pulled over just once on the Island and that was a couple of months back. I've had cops following me at 40 mph and on one stretch, a Sheriffs Department Pickup followed me for 3 to 4 miles at 25 to 30 mph.

As long as my lights aren't blamed for the melting ice caps I'll be fine, very bright and fine.......(-;

@MewFushisDad Are you sure? Never noticed that snow starts melting as soon as people get their bikes out? And now they blame it on cars!

Cubic Centimeters? Oh Boy....LOL
Americans in general would have the Dutch beat in regards to the size of their stomachs but you would see so very very few riding a bicycle.

@MewFushisDad We're smart. We export wheeled bananas and get McDonalds in return who's helping us with nutrition and fitness.
hauserkaspar 1 year ago
I would say very smart.
No McDonalds here. I would have to go to the mainland to find one. Don't miss them much.
Talking about bananas. I wrote to Chiquita Banana about selling advertising space on the side of my Quest but didn't get any response.

I've been pulled over by the cops here on the Island just once.
He said I was doing 37 mph/59.5 kmh in a 35 mph/56 kmh zone
He just wanted to see what I had under the hood.
When I told him it didn't have a motor he asked, "Are you sure?"
