  • It's a push jerk. Dip, then drive, then drop and catch. Push presses don't utilize the drop and catch. Either one can be done in front of or behind the neck.

    That's a great lift. Very impressive. Very few people can lift their own bodyweight overhead, let alone 1.5x BW.

  • actually a push press is using only your chest and arms to push up the weight

    push jerk means using your whole body and for behind the back is usually labels BTN

  • I think that's pretty great for your weight, especially if you aren't olympic trained.

    If you really want to improve you should record it, post it, and get feedback so you can make gains. 275@175 is almost 1.6 times your bodyweight. That's pound-for-pound a little stronger than me with 340@227, so I'd say you're doing great!

  • this is a power jerk / push jerk (look up pyrros dimas). the most impressive thing about this video is not the jerk, but the fact you brought it back down and racked such a high weight instead of just dropping it.

    Actually, I do seated military presses, from a dead stop, beneath the chin on in a power rack with about 350. Which probably means I should be jerking more. Heh.

    I competed in 2 Olympics for the US. Change the title of this video to standing jerk and work on racking any weight that goes over your head. Google Matt Poe or Josh Bryant to learn to pushpress. They go from the floor and out of a rack.

    Good try----decide what lift to be dedicated to----learn the differences.

  • I've push pressed 275 easily, but when I put 315 on the bar it's like "Shit! this is 315....." and I just can't get it locked out. I need to psyche myself up I suppose, which I've never been good at, and at 6'3" and 260 with 5 years of lifting I feel I really should be jamming 315 overhead like it's a broomstick lol

  • its a nice lift dont get me wrong, but it's not a push press - you dont dip down in a push press, the legs stay straight >cant see the legs but looked like you either split jerked it or power jerked it

  • A power jerk means you start the weight up with the leg drive and upward press, than drop down and catch the bar as it's still moving upwards. So you bend the legs, push up, drop quickly and catch. It allows you to do more weight. A push press doesn't have the second drop, you just bend the legs, than drive up with the legs and press the weight overhead.

    Either way, whatever. Getting 340 up is no small feat.

  • The push press has a dip then drive. Push jerk is dip, drive, and then dip so that you are pushing in free fall.

    This was an amazing lift...especially done at a commerical gym.
