Hmmmm all these jam bands covering this? music is good-damn good but the vocals and the "jam" remind me of a bunch guys at county fair from the local church. No sex. no fire. some soul? perhaps.
Check out Lee Dorsey's original version. This Phish cover is really good, but Alan Toussaint's music is best when sung by a fellow New Orleanian. RIP Lee.
Toussaint is very much alive and will be at Jazzfest again this year. Catch this musical genius when you can.
@rockstar2192 - Outstanding, I didn't know that, I just looked up Lee Dorsey's version on the tube and what a pleasure it is to hear it. After listening to Dorsey's original I believe Phish is performing Robert Palmers version of the song. Its such a great song it would be hard to go wrong with any version. I have played Palmers version live and it is just so much fun to play, a true croud pleaser even when they haven't heard it before. Thanks for the info, Cheers!
I wonder if the croud knows this tune or are they just happy to hear a cool funky tune? Either way they got a winner, originally Robert Palmer, backed by Lowel George and the Meters, pretty sure.
never realized that trey was using the twin reverbs in 98. thought it was later. glad he's back to his traditional rig with the custom languedoc cabinets, although he's only mic'ing one of the cabinets. i think the head he's playing through is the old boogie head from back in the day. not sure. any corrections, please correct me. Phish is back for another 25 folks! it's the best thing that's happened to us phans!!!!
i was at this show it was great. the punch u in eye is the best i've ever heard. utah was better darkside 2 dyas later . i've seen every show they 've played at the thomas&mack center. great video thanks.
A co-worker of mine is friends with page, we're going to see them at Hampton and hopefully they'll let me go with him to backstage, that would be siiiiiick. Cause he's going backstage, that's for sure, but hopefully he'll be able to say, "he's with me" and I get back there to and meet my heroes
did you get backstage? from what i saw, the band didn't hang out too long after the shows... they left almost immediately -- or within 30 minutes after the shows were over.
no... I like the square.... or honestly a standard band set up would be best so everyone could cue on fishman for time changes in jams if he wants to start a new time signature
2:10-2:40 is some of the funkiest grooves ever. The crowd gradually picks up on it and starts going nuts. Nothing remotely compares to the energy of a Phish crowd
are you blind, def and dumb? the answer is yes. although the camera is shaking you can clearly tell the lights do not change at all. CK5s lights never hurt but by no means are necessary to enjoying a funk fest like this. Go stare a strobe light and stroke yourself idiot, thats obviously what your into.
wow. is this what a phish crowd is like? A fellow fan makes a mistake and instead of calmly correcting him you flat out insult him? Fuck you guys. I'm sticking with the Dead.
I remember being ultra funky during this song, definitely a highlight in the night, drove all the way from New Orleans (passing up a hometown WSP show) to see the one and only fab four phreakin funky Phish! Thanks so much tdunski, epic footage!
tdunski - I appreciate you putting these vids up, brah. Takes me back to the best time in my life. Hopefully we will be able to see the boys again soon!
@scootilybootily no way! haha, but really the more people who hear it, the more will like it. I think people are easily put off, subsequent to hearing their studio stuff, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a better live show out there. I think any knowledgeable music fan should appreciate that. Phish is already huge.
I'm always blown away by the camera work on some of these bootlegs...I can't remember being at a Phish show in the state of mind where something like that would be possible...especially in the 2nd set.
I'm so glad there are phans out there w/ the discipline to pull this off!!!
2:15-2:30 the funk is too thick and the camera gets out of focus

actually the crowd went wild when they changed the lights... that's usually what leads people more, the lights, rather than the sound.
