Hey guys, that is at Creative Workshop in Nashville, TN. The first studio in the famous Berry Hill area of town that now is home to places like Blackbird Studios.
Creative hasn't changed one bit since that recording in 1976 (except sadly no more green carpet... hardwoods now.

Jine 21, 2010...a huge loss to the world of music. We lost Larry Jon. Condolences to his family and friends, thank goodness for the few precious gems of albums he left those of us fortunate to be acquainted with his gift and talent.
Austin City Limits/Steve Earle > Research on Townes Van Zandt > The Documentary Heartworn Highways > This Song...
My god, what an awesome, awesome song and what a fantastic artist... Consider me a newly minted fan. Diggin' the hell out of this era in country music, hope to discover more guys like LJW. The stuff Nashville puts out today is shit compared to this.
OMG, did Larry Jon himself just provide the band info on these comments..?, respect to the great man, one of my favourite tracks, just drives along, and Larry you have to go play pappy and harriets in joshua tree, amazing place.
thanks guys for the info on the band, many thanks, just come back from the desert and about to upload stuff from joshua tree music festival, check out vids from edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros elsewhere on here as the sound quality on mine are crap, great new band..
Albert Lee looks so....young. But of course it is Albert Lee. Did not see that at first.
Though it is not a licks song Mr. Lee is serving some tasty chops here. Listened to the Country Got Soul II version this morning and came to wonder why it is cleaned out of electric guitar. Some of Mr Lee's chops would have made it into an even tastier dish.
Thanks for posting this AMAZING footage ! they don't cut tracks like this anymore, so cool and professional playing proper session heads in an analog studio.......grooving
Thank you for posting this whole segment. I'd seen a weird montage in the past but this deserves all 8:42 min. This is from a very worthy film for those who haven't seen it. I'm stoked to know there are other people out there who are into it. Long live Larry Jon Wilson and all of you who run the Heartworn Highways.
Takes me back...wade fishing, swimming, camping out, bottle rocket wars, eating fried chicken at Cow Ford, walking barefooted up and down those hot sand roads. Stilt houses, drinking parties, redbreast fishing under the willow trees, little bitty bass pulling like a 10 pounder...gator shining, deer hunting, floating on your back with the current watching the clouds go by and not a sound in the world but wind in the leaves, eddy water, locusts humming...that was another time.
its an awesome song, he must have his guitar tuned to a chord to be paying like that, great style, wonder what happened to the guys in the band and who they were..?
nah he's in standard. he starts on an A7 and then kinda slides that shape up and hits something like a G6 and A6. not exactly but something like that. give it a try.
I saw him earlier this week at The Gladstone in Borough, he was brilliant. I was speaking outside to theis American merchant banker from a band called 'Kursk' who said LJW was boring and that there were thousands of these guys in the US. I did kinda like the guy up until he started banging on about his beautiful Russian girlfriend and how she was better looking than all the girls at the gig that night, then I thought "what a dick!" Larry Jon was fantastic. What a voice.
Yep Im off to see him at a signing and then the 12 bar club tomorrow! I play at the 12 Bar alot and its about the size of my bathroom. Im lactating with anticipation!
I figure Nashville, since he was signed to Monument Records at the time and I think that's where they were located. I dont recognize the pickers as Muscle Shoals guys... that harmonica player is damn good!
Yep....in late June'08 on 1965 records (a UK label)...& apparently he'll do some UK gigs as well. I know that he's doing some festival at Merton Farm, Near Canterbury, Kent, UK sometime this summer....and there is a track from the new album on the internet: "Whore Trilogy", that some DJ got somehow in January!!??....You'll have to search for it, cos I forgot the link but it's great!!!
There is a new Larry Jon Wilson release on the way on 1965 Records, release date in June 2008
James Endeacott, proprietor of eclectic record label 1965:
We've just signed a guy who's 70 years old -- Larry John Wilson -- who was mates with Kris Kristofferson in the '70s. He's not made a record in 28 years and he's just made one for us, just him and a guitar recorded in a room overlooking a beach in Florida, and it's heartbreaking.
Still to this day I can't figure out what the hell he's doing, in terms of strumming, to get that sound... It's very unusual, sounds just fantastic.
