Congratulation to IAF on induction of LCA. But now in IAF there is a divide on LCA. Some want to turn the LCA into a advanced jet trainer due to its failure as multirole fighter, others are still convinced that it could be a success and some want to produce despite its drawbacks and just use it as a point defense fighter like the MiG-21 (which it is suppose to replace). Now that would be a achievement, producing a 1960´s MiG-21 kind of fighter in 2015.

You are missing one point...... For a country with large borders like India.......300 Sukhois (Final) + 126 MMRCA is not enough.....any air force needs all types of aircraft.....maintaining twin engine aircraft is very expensive....

In fact even US cannot afford more F 22s....because of its high cost.....so it still uses F15s,.

LCA will play an important role anyway.....moreover with latest (and contantly updated) radar avonics etc.....it will be always a great fighter.......

The biggest advantage of LCA is its performance combined with COST !!

IAF needs a single engine, single pilot fighter which has reasonable stealth (made with composites), advanced avoinics , which can be used for accurate bombing as well as facing bulk of PAF / PLAAF aircraft !

Is it just me or does this aircraft have the side profile of a JF-17 and the wings of a French Mirage 2000? It's still a small aircraft which means a small payload compared to an F-15, 16, 18, Rafale, Typhoon II, Mirage 2000, SU-27, J-10, Gripen , etc. For such a long development, at great cost, a much more capable aircraft would have been expected and already in squadron service. The estimated cost per aircraft is also very high, about $21-35 million.

Tejas has been a failure. one thing people keep bringing up is we have produced the lightest fighter. LCA is not 100% Indian effort. FBW has British components. Radar is from Israel. Engine is from USA. All these foreign elements may only be for interim use. However, at present. LCA is far from 100% Indian effort and still not able to fly with full operational clearance. LCA is still a problem child for the Indians.....

LCA is underdevelopment from more than two decades since its conception; the LCA has yet to reach production status. Instead, it continues to perform endless flight tests and most of these tests were also failed. Difficulties with its flight controls & power plant (kaveri engine) are still there and the worst of which was the collapse of the engine during high-altitude tests.

ADA has taken v.long to develop the LCA. A 25years lead time to develop a fighter aircraft is unrealistic.IAF was never enthusiastic about inducting LCA.The aircraft's combat performance was dismal and so was its weapon load and Engine problem.Its high pressure hydraulic system was prone to frequent failures and its engine & a fly-by-wire system has serious defects. During its prototype tests the LCA prototypes were grounded for many months on many occasions.It has failed in many flight tests.

I would say that LCA was a flawed project in its early years however due to vast spending on Indians point of view, they couldn't afford to scrap it hence the reason the project is still crippling forward today.

Kaveri will not be available as it has failed. Now Indians are inviting foreign manufacturers to submit proposals and help. No one knows as to how many more decades will pass before Kaveri becomes a reality. GE is available but for this LCA required to redesign completely.

Best aircraft man, just amazing aircraft. With additional thrust from GE F414 around 98 Kn from the existing 85KN. This bird will go balistic. Mind you the aerodynamics of this a/c can go upto mach 2.5. What I mean by that is the airframe/structure can withstand Mach 2.5 and the flutter test in goa at sea level will be another proof for this wounderful a/c, well done ADA! Congrats!

Your reply showed my fact is right. J-10 that you mentioned uses the Russian engine and your LCA is using the GE engine NOW. Don't give me future tenses. Otherwise by your logic the J-10 is also not using Russian engine because we are developing our own engine that'll replace it soon.

ya so I admit I made a mistake by sayin J-10 uses GE engine. but like I said, one of ur planes uses the GE. As for ur "future tenses", Kaveri has already been displayed in aero shows, and indian officials have confirmed its serial production. On the other hand, chinese have told that your "woshan" engines are not gonna be fitted into any planes cuz they have technical problems.

Plus, Russians sued ur asses for copying their designs for your planes.

praley...latest news....kaweri engine is now deemed underpowered for indian air force requirements...they are taking in only two squadrans.the radar and all are indegenious tough.the engine might be either changed to foreingn one unless a locally made more powerful engine is made.

lca uses kaweri engine....not ge engine.only the prototype uses GE engine.the radar and electronics are indias own tecnology,and considered generation 4.5.

I hear that kaveri's ship engine is ready. now they are in their last minute power correction touches for LCA; the challenge they are facing at the moment is about the Thrust. they want to make it mach 2. But; right now its only 1.7 mach
