The Cincinnati Reds were the best team of the 1970's. Baltimore was next followed by Oakland and Pittsburg. The Mets could not even crack the top 20.

By the way every team that wins it's league championship get's a trophy. And it's a very,very big trophy.

@ShamWasBetter I disagree. The only reason the Mets won the division in '73 is because it was a down year in the NL East. The Mets won the division that year with a mediocre record of 82-79. Every other year from 1970-1983, the Mets never finished higher than 3rd place & only won more than 83 games one time... 86-76 in 1976. They still were an above average team after the '69 World Series, but finishing in 3rd place or lower for 14 straight years shows they really had things fall perfect in '69.

They won the division in '73 with an 82-79 record. There is no argument. Great, they won the NLCS to prove they were a good team in a short series because of their pitching, but they still lost the World Series. Should baseball start honoring the team that loses the World Series with a trophy?
