I see comparisons between Jasmine and Beyonce'. Coming from a musical back ground at Delaware State University, I would choose Jasmine over Beyonce' in comparison because she has just a little more vocal talent than Beyonce' considering her range, tone, creativity and over all sound. As much of a Lauryn Hill stan that I am, and I am a stan! Don't sleep on Beyonce, the girl can sing as well. Of course she wastes her voice on childish bubblegum songs. But the girl can sing; but she and Lauryn have different voices. Doesn't make one a better singer than the other. It's subjective but they both sound good. Lauryn's voice is huskier, Beyonce's is much more lighter. Jasmine Sullivan is an imitation of Lauryn, she's not even in the conversation in my opinion.

Vocally, she is impressive and talented and soulful and has great range. She's just tuned her vocals to have more pop appeal.
But Jasmine Sullivan is just such a virtuoso, so transcendent, so sublime and her voice is so smoky, so rich and luscious that I can easily see why you'd say that she's on another level

What sets Beyonce apart from alot of singers today is her versatility. She can sing classical, jazz, r&b, pop, and rock and roll. There aren't many singers today that can do that, and do it well. One other one that comes to mind right now is Ledisi, but she doesn't have that prorotype pretty girl look.
But lately, I've ntoiced her songs aren't...showing her talent.

I agree...but you realize that one thing about our generation that differs greatly from the preceding ones is that in the older generations they made the music that they wanted to make regardless of the audience. If you liked it you liked it. if not, oh well. B said herself that she really doesn't like the whole up-tempo "diva" type thing but does that more for the fans. Whats with all the comparison? people are constantly comparing everybody to Beyonce! Lauryn Hill and Beyonce are on two totally different levels...Their music is completely different and I think to compare the two is an insult to Lauryn (sorry...but thats my opinion) Jazmine Sullivan is an amazing artist as well! She and Beyonce have TOTALLY different voices...and honestly..one has more soul than the other..but they're all talented...lets acknowledge that and just enjoy the music

beyonce is an incredible entertainer and some of her songs are really strong. i think she's one of the best and most unique singers of her generation.
however... look at jazmine when she was 11. she has something that beyonce doesn't seem to have. real soul. beyonce sings soulfully but it's so masterful and controlled that i don't feel the angst or the passion. i do with jazmine. she's untouchable vocally.

...and I know people compare L to Jaz because of their voices, but it needs to stop there. Again, two TOTALLY different artists, agendas, etc. Lauryn talked about strife, poverty, struggle...social pollution. And as much as I adore and love Jazmine, "Fearless" wasn't exactly groundbreaking material. Is she a breath of fresh air from all the monotony and mediocrity currently in the game? Definitely! But she has a long way to go before she even grazes Lauryn's level. Even Jaz would say that.

B is in a class of her own, i'd say she's got star quality/the whole package......Jazmine sullivan i'd say has a heavy, heavy, heavy voice, her voice is seriouse!!!!!! @jaydiarae - I'm not some huge Beyonce supporter, but I think you're probably not giving Beyonce her full due. Not saying you're robbing her, but probably undercrediting her just a notch.
Vocally, she is impressive and talented and soulful and has great range. She's just tuned her vocals to have more pop appeal.
But Jasmine Sullivan is just such a virtuoso, so transcendent, so sublime and her voice is so smoky, so rich and luscious that I can easily see why you'd say that she's on another level

What sets Beyonce apart from alot of singers today is her versatility. She can sing classical, jazz, r&b, pop, and rock and roll. There aren't many singers today that can do that, and do it well. One other one that comes to mind right now is Ledisi, but she doesn't have that prorotype pretty girl look.

I agree...but you realize that one thing about our generation that differs greatly from the preceding ones is that in the older generations they made the music that they wanted to make regardless of the audience. If you liked it you liked it. if not, oh well. B said herself that she really doesn't like the whole up-tempo "diva" type thing but does that more for the fans. Just like Trey Songz "LOL Smiley Face"...stupd as hell but it was strictly for younger fans.
