- That translates into Ellis telling her, in so many words, that life is too short to go on and be stubborn about what you want, what you really want. Ellis had lost years because she didn't ask Richard to stay and Richard didn't know the lengths Ellis had gone to which in turn left Meredith emotionally vulnerable as the past seasons have shown her unwillingness to trust and love. By sorting out the past you can finally sort what is stuck in front of you.

Derek is a jerk for leaving her to deal with all these alone while he runs off with other woman. Cristina was with Owen during his therapy sessions. He almost killed her but she stayed. Meredith has issues and Derek broke things off with her and kisses a scrub nurse...and got all serious with the nurse.

"Be extraordinary" is what the mother said but in season 2 episode 14 she (her mother) tells Meredith that she's ordinary when she tells her that she's happy with Derek .So does it mean that the mother WAS talking about surgery or love ?

Ellis cut her wrists after Richard left Then "Be extraordinary" may have meant, or "Have a career AND a great love."

She calls Mere ordinary after discovering that she (Ellis) has lost her greatness and it looks like Mere is "wasting" her gift. She is not talking about the same thing she was when she cut her wrists.

Also...it's Grey's. Is it ever entirely consistent?

I have to say, Derek did actually own up to Addison, saying he was distant, and that he was working on it.

As far as Meredith is concerned, when he met Lexi in the bar he told Mer about it, Derek doesn't need to explain his actions because it's pretty obvious why he does it all. :)

She tells him that he's the one who walked away, that she made no apologies for how she glued herself back together when he chose his wife [whom he neglected to mention to mere!] over her. and then? and THEN? he flips it so it's all about him and says that things are done with her...he's a ginormous arrogant and smug tool, mere should have picked finn!
