Pretty good video. I think one thing many people overlook is that American blacks tend not to look like their west african counterparts. And many whites tend be a bit darker than their west european counterparts That is to say there was a lot more hanky panky than we are lead to believe. I don't play in the race sandbox. I feel it is too late for it. There is only one race, the human one. There are not two people on this planet that are the same color. Some have distinctively more melanin, thinner/fatter noses depending on how long their ancestors spent in a hotter/cooler climate. Brilliant. I agree with all of what you just said... but, even as an atheist, I always feel I must pick and choose my words very, very carefully. I risk getting shot just uttering the words "I'm an atheist" (I work on a military base... and christians here are well known for their irrationality). I had a group of friends when I was younger that consisted of 3 black guys, 2 asians, 1 russian, and me (the white guy).

Thus you have to go through the law and see what was intended by these laws and if the enforcement of these laws are having desired effects. I'm not putting blame on you. I'm saying if you live or work here, you benefit however minutely. Just like I benefit from the land that was stolen from American Indians. These situations should be dealt with or the historical baggage and anger will remain.

@TYFrankWhite Maybe we could rewrite laws with logic instead of religious ideas or hidden agendas? I'm mixed ethnicity so I have no side of the fence to sit on. I'm mainly White so that's what the world views me as. If I try to speak of my other heritages, people cover their ears and say "You're White in my opinion" and I'm shoved into that category. I suggest that most people get a DNA test before becoming racist, the results might make them feel stupid for wanting to hate in the first place!

I have no problem with any person, we are all human beings, but I do have problems with people that are "proud" of something like race, or sexuality, or something else that "diversifies" us. Pretty good video. I think one thing many people overlook is that American blacks tend not to look like their west african counterparts. And many whites tend be a bit darker than their west european counterparts That is to say there was a lot more hanky panky than we are lead to believe. This is actually a good thing, but its denial is not. "Racial" identity is at best, a mixed bag, since pretty much all civilizations have loved, raped, conquered, enslaved and freed everyone else at times.

As I was watching and reading, it occurred to me that a white person saying the word nigger being unacceptable and a black person saying it being ok is a bit the same as when brothers and sisters think its ok to be mean to each other and say nasty things to each other but let someone outside the family hurt or be mean to our brother or our sister and we raise up to stop someones ass. It's for the same reason that when Woody Allen makes fun of Jews it can be funny, but if a German makes fun of Jews, well, the baggage of history rears its ugly head. Similarly, white America has a lot of ugly history in its treatment of blacks. So anything that hints of alignment with that ugliness can be considered offensive.

I don't play in the race sandbox. I feel it is too late for it. There is only one race, the human one. There are not two people on this planet that are the same color. Some have distinctively more melanin, thinner/fatter noses depending on how long their ancestors spent in a hotter/cooler climate. Has nothing to do with their "race" just how their family evolved to deal with local climate.

There are black people who've been hated on while being called nigger, so the effect of the word is perpetuated. I say we should avoid using it until it phases out of common useage in this way. Interesting video. The whole slavery issue seems a bit far fetched to me though. Racism certainly originated from slavery among other things, but I think it cannot be explained or helped by discussing slavery much today. If you want to talk about today's racism it should be explained and overcome foremost by discussing today's reality. And I mean racism from all sides or if you will ... from all races

Brilliant. I agree with all of what you just said... but, even as an atheist, I always feel I must pick and choose my words very, very carefully. I risk getting shot just uttering the words "I'm an atheist" (I work on a military base... and christians here are well known for their irrationality). I had a group of friends when I was younger that consisted of 3 black guys, 2 asians, 1 russian, and me (the white guy).

This was a great video. One of the best things we can do is raise our kids in a non-racist environment, because the biggest differences are made one person at a time. So that when our sons (I have one too) are our age they may look at each other as individual human beings and drop all this stupid bullshit our generation is saddled with. That's my hope anyway.
