Fantastic track. I love the 'Staring At The Sun' LP. Level 42 are very underrated. When I think of the shit that passes for music today it makes me cry! 'Man' is one of the most complex things they've done. I love the hip hop style beat for the end 'Hey, man sing the blues'! A classic! Thanks for posting!
Wonderful to have this, thanks.... I do think though by the way, didnt the 'late great (i agree)... have his first name spelt with a second 'a' Not, 'u'; so spelt 'AlAn Murphy'.I may be wrong. Best wishes.
Great song. It would have been nice if Alan could have been with the group for many more years...alas...we were fortunate enough to enjoy this. R.I.P. Alan
By far the strongest track on Starring at the sun.
I was not aware that a concert in Copenhagen was ever filmed. This must be from Valbyhallen, actually the only Level 42 concert I never saw in Copenhagen
Great song, and the late Alan Murphy.remind s me of Alan Holdsworth.Love Marks Alembic. He's still playing it in 2000.Longer than any other bass,I know why ,I've had my my two for 25 plus yrs!
Awesome! What a gem!! mesmerized to see Alan M so moved. You can just sense how thrilled Mark is to have him on board. Must have been a real highlight for him and Mike at this time.
It's hard to listen to people who say L42 "sold out" by playing (fantastic) pop songs, when there are epic pieces of beauty like this one. On all their recordings....
Excellent ... remember to vote and rate ... it shows our appreication to Ryan .. its really a well done live version of this song featuring the Late Alan Murphy .. RIP!!!!
where in the living fuck did you get this thanks 4 posting goin to st davids hall on the 21st of october to see them.Saw them a few times with canvoodoo obviously he cant check em out in Oz lol have you got any footage of them with Holdsworth ta
Hi Mate good eh,in this clip Mark is using the first Alembic he owned in Birds Eye Maple as opposed to the later Quilt Maple bass he used to play.
If you look carefully the pick up selector switch located on the bottom cut away of the bass has been blanked off as Mark used to beat the shit out of his hand on it when playing.
Thank you so much for posting this! My fath accomply video doesnt play anymore and i LOVE this version of man,. its such a great song and a awesome fingerstyle solo.I wish MK would pick up the alembic again..great sound!
any chance you can send me a download link for this song??

I wonder why they sing the word "dignity" twice instead of "sympathy" the way it is on the record.

funny, i never saw mark licking his fingers before playing...

He also does it on the 'Live at Reading 2001" dvd during the song 'Foundation and Empire'.

He does it before he has to play a blistering finger part on bass. His way of 'lubing' up the fingers.
