the video is 1:50 long, Can the plane really charge as fast as it's using the power? They could have sent it up with full batteries. It also looks like they could fit more spaniels on it.
Magnifico cacharro. Si encima le poneis una cámara no tendría precio para tener un método muy barato para tomar imagenes aéreas sin necesidad de contratar un avion ni preocuparse de si la bateria se agota,,,
Idea works, using a solar film to cover the wing may extend flight time SLIGHTLY on a small scale plane like this, however this small array would only charge at a fraction of one amp, meaning it would take all day to charge the battery on the plane. More solar film on a large foam motor glider would be way more efficient; I get one hour flights with my foamie Parkzone Radian, without panels.
Great Job!! Some guys say it wont work, but you won't know till you try it. By the way do you use a solar charge controller or just a voltage regulator to charge the batteries from the solar panels? How many volts are your batteries? Whats the range of voltage/watts for an average cloudy - sunny day?
@JunTaoMotorSports that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, the wind resitance would use more energery than the batery uses to propell the plane, the solar panel idea is crap as well at least at a model plane like this the solar panels weigh more and the energy provided is fairly small. at bigger scale and ultra light constuction methods it works and makes sence the solar power idea.
p.s some commercial airlines have small dynamo emergency propellers to produce emergency energy.
@Raffix394 Wouldn't using a Glider with a Servo motor on top of a mast to provide artificial lift make more sense than even that? A Balsa model aircraft only weighs ten or so ounces at most, so the long, narrow wings provide tonnes more room tp place the panels.
@JasvinBindra I wouldn't recommend it. If you are using solar power, you must be attempting to achieve longer airtime. Those extra motors would just eat up your battery. If the solar panels can charge your battery faster than it is recommended, try using LiFePo A123 batteries. They can be charged at approximately 10 amps and have higher amp discharge rates.
the plane of the future, which would replace aviation fuel, and the only fuel this plane needs is daylignt and plug in if its not needed, and when you set your throttle on Idle, it charge some in the battery because your prop just keep on spinning just like a wind power when your throttle is in idle.
I invented a breakthrough source of energy that contradicts the law of conservation of energy. I have a PROOF that there are electrodynamic phenomena that contradict the law of conservation of energy. I am looking for $6M for a prototype and patents.
at the beginning of the vieo, when the fotos appear, look at the top of the wings. the solar panels are there. it is a "hybrid" airplane, this means it works both with battery pack and solar energy at the same time, giving the "bird" allot more flight time than normal ones. those guys are not idiots, they are genius!

How on earth did that plane fly? What kind of solar panel is that? it can't be crystalline silicon panel or else it would be too heavy... I really can't imagine thin film panel being able to generate that much energy. I'm sure that there's battery somewhere.
what makes you think the batteries arent powering that engine and the solar panel is there just to looklike it is doing something. They may not even be connected with the batteries..
@maurydez yea right lol first of all hybrid means its a combination of both and thats impossible to run by itself only with solar power because solar panels that small dont get that much energy that fast to fly that plane
@happygoat3 the bateris are being charged by the sun witch means clouds wont hurt unless they stay until the betery dies(im guessing somewhere around 30-60min)

the concept is interesting. It cannot possibly run on solar power alone, but it increases its autonomy.

great idea for the model market, bur full size manned solar aircraft already exsist, just to inform the guys who dont seem to know this.

is it possible to add 2 motors to both sides of the wing and 1 motor on the tail to make it go faster? or do we need more power/solar cells?

Some sort of capacitor that takes the extra voltage?

What was solar about that plane?
Where was to solar panel?
How do we know there was not a battery in side of the fuselage?
What a dum idiot!!!

But we dont know if the plane was being powered by the battery that was inside of the fuselage or the solar panel.
The videos doesnt prove anything

You learn how to read first before you make a jack ass out of yourself?
I never said there was no battery.
The question is: is the solar panel actually powering the plane.
Never mind, you are 2 stupid to read.

You are right, something we dont know about, how do you know those batteries werent doing 100% of the powering.
I will be inpressed when i see the actual fight time of this plane, so far they showed a plane the could have been powered by any lithiun battery.
If i borrow that wing, i could flight my electrical plane and tell anyone that was powered by the panel without connectiong that to the batteries..

That makes no sense what so ever. Why put solar cells on a plane and then not hook them up?
razorflown2 2 years ago
The solar cell is just balancing the batteries as it can with it's voltage....
This provides extra flight time....
Solar panels aren't efficient at all...
