  • Amusingly enough, Valve is now creating a limited run of 5000 licensed replica portal guns; I think all the pre-orders have been filled, though.

  • VALVe probably should have used your custom black sphere.

  • omg, this was uploaded on my birthday. o.O

  • want one =(

  • This is so awesome, I bet it would take me a month to build one of those. I wish they sold these at stores.

  • Take the time to tell us everything and show us how to make it hand by hand every second of it ok :)

  • i think valve should make these and pay a nice amount of the earned money to ammnra (the crafter)

  • what was the black one supposed to be from

  • who else wanted the hello kitty?

  • very, very good deltailed instructions, this is awesome

  • THEY R MAKEING TURRETS NOW YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • well it is due to the fact that there is no way of getting this so called "research" because EVERYONE is like you. They dont want to help and they dont want to even begin to help get started or help with minute things and quite frankly I do not appreciate the snarky attitude you show when explaining this subject. It kind of gives you a "know it all" kind of appeal and that drives away people who want to learn.

By the way nice models, excellent work.

  • @ENRAGEDAustin11 Sort of agreed.

@ammnra The diagrams are nice and all, and I definitely have a LOT better idea of how the little bugger functions and how the pieces go together, yes. But would it be too much to ask for a simple list of materials and tools?

I see you used a 3D Printer to make the parts. Is there *any* way to make one of these without spending tens of thousands of dollars on equipment?

  • make a life size one.

    ...THAT MOVES

  • FUCKING VALVE! START PRODUCING THESE MOTHERFUCKERS!

  • I WANT THOSE, THUMBS UP CUZ THIS THINGS OWN!

  • they're so cute!!!! -goes to buy the stuff to make Wheatley-

  • Damn its nearly impossible to build it at home.. you could build a quite big number of those and put em for sale. i want one so badly!! Make it as an unofficial merchandise :P

  • I *REALLY* wish Shapeways would make some of this stuff, rather then forcing us to.

  • thumbs up if valve should make these.

  • @ethan78688 thumbs up infinity if i can

  • Y is hello kitty in tags

  • @Raqwaza17 there is a hello kitty core at the end .3.

  • Dear Santa

  • how much dose an eden 350 cost

  • @Version1Beta Perhaps you should look more at the 3D models on screen instead of listening to him with mind set to zero.

  • I don't expect "Ikea level Instructions" but maybe details such as materials and measurements? Surely the hardest part of building these is getting the measurements such that the mechanisms work?

  • that's how wheatley is made.

  • I am not a nerd.. Im a geek xD

But i would pay 100 or 200 idk whatever for a life sized replica of wheatly if somebody made one for me :3

  • @Potato25Chip

For a life-size wheatly replica you'd be looking at something closer to 1000 to 1500. There is no way you would get one for 100 or 200.

  • @Orgussv2 oh yeah well i was tired and stuff so now this so called brain can get working now xD

  • Man if someone made me a Wheatly Sphere, I would pay like 50$ for it :P

  • does the size matter? your spheres were small, and understandably that would probably be easier for me but i am trying to make a full set of props for portal. so was making these smaller versions easier, or should i go big?

  • @mrbnguyen95 THANK YOU finally someone that understands

  • 3D Printer?

Good thing i watched that Minecraft.print() video :D

  • have you tryed making GlaDOS?

  • Thumbs up if you agree that we should email valve to start mass producing these!

  • @mrbnguyen95 me too

  • When the picture came on with "New Swapable Eye Feature" I imeadiatly thaought "That would be great for a commercial!" I'll give $100 for each! I just need to get $400...

  • i think i killed the like button O___o

  • id give 60 dollars for wheatley

  • everyone we need to email valve or find a way to contact them and tell them we want stuff like a portal gun and cores and turrets thumbs me up if you agree then go email them

  • @mrbnguyen95 im 12 too :'(

  • @LPSgal10 same here

  • @jagui12000 this sucks! lol

  • 1. show a company how to make them

    2. make millions on sales

    do it ammnra

  • @chocoletFIRE or have lots of people to mass produce them and still win big

  • MY first thought is "OMG MAKE ONE!!!" than I listen to what he said, he right, bug the valve to make these

  • DO GLaDOS!!!!

  • @nerdygangstah true dat homes

  • I know what I'm gonna do Explosion Day

  • lets call the black core Shadow sphere

  • this is the professional level of engineering, the hardest part is the computer programming, it must have taken weeks!!

  • Is it possible to make a body to connect a sphere to like Atlas?

  • now i know wat im doin this summer vacation

  • Just so everyone knows, your own personality spheres don't need to be this complex or fully functional. What the OP has posted is the work of brilliance. You, the average viewer could easily slap something that looks good from the outside together with some quick work. Ping Pong balls, superglue, and PVC tube. That's all I'm saying.

  • Want Want Want Want Want

  • you should make some full-sized one's

  • hi just an idea next time try to make GLaDOs next time. And also can you make it so you can replace GLaDOs's head with a core?

  • @galydmk and put cores on her!

  • @vtheawesome why are you raging at him because he wont give you a tutorial? Is it because you have no creativity what so ever and you have to rely on someone else to do the thinking for you? This isn't suppost to be a full tutorial, read the damn description.

  • @paprgun no fucktard i'm 12 and i am awesome at making props so just because i want to know

    how

he made and what materials he used dosent mean I'm stupid or have no creativity i probably have more creativity than you have so you make paper guns i make things like metal and plastic halo

suits and i making a daft punk helmet. so fuck you

  • @vtheawesome the guy in the video is trying to say that its unlikely for someone to tell you the materials and how to make the model step by step. He's saying that you have to figure that out yourself and you have to avoid being dependent on someone else. And where's these so called metal workings? all i saw on your channel was a cardboard daft punk helmet and some legos you painted on. XD

  • @vtheawesome

The tools(SolidWorkd,3D Printer) and materials (Eden 350 material/resin) are all listed in the description. The process I used is shown in this video.

I'm not calling anyone stupid. I'm suggesting that many people out there are over-indulged children who feel that (with no personal effort) what they want should be handed to them on a silver platter and I should thank them for the honor of doing so. Make your version of this project. I honestly hope it turns out to your liking.

  • dude, i have no talent like you do on these, those things are so amazing, SO REALSTIC

i couldn't make em' that realistic!

    plz make a tutorial!

  • space space space core i want the space core please space space SPAAAAACE!!!!!!!!

  • umm i want one?

  • please SEND ME ONE I NEEEEEEEEEEED ONE THERE SO AWSOME I JUST WANT THE WHEATLY AND SPACE CORE

  • Dear Santa...

  • time to spam gabe newell to produce this...

  • The mechanism makes sense, but where do i get the props?

  • Cool Why Wont You Sell them?? and make more?

  • Comment removed

  • @mrbnguyen95 ya me too u want to but i cant

  • Dear Valve...

  • Why not put up the 3D files so that the people with those 3D printers can print, assemble and paint it themselves, instead of just putting up tutorials and making them have to do it from scratch?

  • put them on ebay, thumbs up if you agree.

  • plz someone tell me where i can make wheatley.i realy want hem!

  • where i can get flashlight like these?

  • it looks like legos but portal style

  • Tnx for this vid. I've made one myself today. =D!

  • well i dont have all the stuff to build it, but i made them outta clay! =D

  • I'm going to use this to build a life-size Wheatley.

  • life size... LIFE SIZE!

  • i want wheatley and space D: i miss them

  • what do we have to get to craft em? I would have wheatley by now if I knew what to use.

  • the plastic is the only problem for me =(

    (cant get precice shapes)

  • if you just put up the blueprints or what ever for the model shape we will build it ourselvs, we know how to build it, we just need the 3D model, if you do relese the files we will stop making offers and leaving questions

  • Buying wire and the moving components is all well and good but there is one problem. How the hell are we fans supposed to obtain the outer body and the eye pieces!?

  • WOW! 8D

  • Why dont you talk to valve yourself and show them the positive reviews you received? You can make good money off this idea, since you deserve the credit for it.

  • I want a life-size Wheatley! :D

  • @Deroni76 well then, you simply build him the same, but use bigger pieces

  • i will give you ANYTHING for Rick!

  • i give you 4000 dollars for wheatly

  • Do you sell these? o_o

  • @mario9dragon no :( valve wont give him permission

  • @mrbnguyen95 I am in a similar situation. These would be really fun to make, play with and show off, but it just sucks that you have to buy the materials and all. What do you need? Well, you need the design, the time, the money, the tools, the patience, and most importantly, the materials. Paper core? $10. Looks bad. Plastic core? $100 I guess. Looks good enough, especially if you're 12. Varying material core (wood, plastic, acrylate polymer)? Awesome... but $300-600. That sucks. Good day.

  • Thumbs up if you want to buy one.

  • SOOO! HARD

  • What are the materials used? Ive got a hell of alot of time on my hands and would like to know

  • Major props on the awesome work o.o Sadly, cannot justify busting out that kind of money for a 3D printer on one project. May have to use a paper equivalent, but the basic structure design itself is helpful

  • You need to mass produce those things

  • could i use wood for the basic shape

  • What CAD software are you using here?

  • How cool would it be to have a talking (motion triggered?) turret in the hallway? :D

If I can make a personalitysphere (might try as one of my future projects *is very unexperienced beyond woodwork*) I'm fefinitely going to try that.

Just thought you might have been thinking the same! :D

  • holy s*** look at 1:14 XD

  • @MsHolylight123

    That's stupid.

  • holy s*** look at 1:16

  • Aperture Science should be a real company!

  • what do you need to make this

  • u r awsome

  • i would buy all four and the extra stuff

  • is it possible to buy one of urs?

  • the eye area was a bit bigger in the real ones, did you notice that?

  • have you made the one that when you first find them it hanging down with the light

  • U are bad ass bro cool videos

  • u need to get VALVe to sell these!!! i really want 1 but i don't have the tools or materials.

  • These things are epic and you should contact Valve about selling them and try to get an OK from 'em. If you can you'd be making some money off these little spheres.

  • @ammnra will you sell them on ebay?

  • someone put them on ebay

  • This is probably the best tutorial video ever.

  • Just out of curiosity, how much would it cost to commission one of these spheres from you? Or, say, a small turret?

  • its nice to know that theres people out there who show how to make somthing really awesome and dont just keep it a secret. thank you your one of a kind

  • maybe you can't sell them but you can give them away for free :) damm i want one so badly

  • This is awesome :o

  • That's a nice watch man.

  • that hole in the back could be used for a push pin, to toggle the power to the light :)

  • Dude, I understand how all this works, I just don't have those recourses, software, 3D printer and specific tools!

  • @ammnra I have, and I'm sure the rest of

us have, tried by sending emails to valve. Why don't you email them promoting your (excellent!) design. Don't feel as though you must as it is just asking for more work! Just explain to them that many people want these

and that you (I/we hope) are willing to make more. Thank you.

  • I know this is asking alot but could you make the co op robots from portal 2?

  • These are god and all, but can you add speach? i mean anyone can do this....

:P only joking, these are amazing and if only valve had a contact thingy, i would make sure they understood these were profitable merchandise!

  • Thanks for the video! You've got a great talent there; most my replicas are made of embarrassingly cheap materials due to what's available here... But what you've made has simply blown me away!

  • I don't know if this has been asked before but is there any chance you are going to release the "3D Blueprints" from your Personality Spheres on your homepage or something like that?

  • *read comments*

Did most of you not listen or read the description? Gah, I don't know how talented people don't roll their eyes out.

I wish I could get one, alas, I'm happy enough to see how it's done. Now to email Valve.

  • Would pay for this and like i've seen in the comments, actualy size ones w/audio and motorised parts or companion cubes etc,

I do hope someone at valve or a licensed production company pick this stuff up, or at least another designer like you who would be willing to sell them

  • Coolest. Model. Ever

    GIVE ME ONE NOW!

  • could you make a 1:1 scale that would be amazing or a companion cube thats 1:1 scale with lights and stuff

  • EVERYONE WHO WATCHES THIS!!!! SEND IT TO VALVE JUST SEND IT VIA YOUTUBE, EMAIL, FACEBOOK, THIS AND THE PORTAL GUN, FLOOD THEM WITH IT!!!!! THEY WILL MAKE IT IF WE SHOW THEM WE WILL PONY UP THE CASH!!!

  • I do get rant. I mean, I understand people asking questions and wanting more info but a lot of times the people your helping lose patience in doing it themselves and end up asking you to do it for them, at least, that's what happens in my experience.

But in any case, AWESOME job~! I wanna make a papercraft version, but man, do I wish I had access to a 3d printer.

  • I agree slightly, while it is a pain dealing with lazy or obnoxious people, who just want a quick pro tip and be on their way. It wouldn't take much just to point and paste. YMMV of course. Also waiting for Valve to get a video of you doing this a bit melodramatic, why not send blueprints and vids to them yourself? Either way I'm thankful for the tutorial.

  • There should be a papercraft version of these! sure it would be bigger for easier cutting, but it would still be just as awesome!

  • could you make tutorial to bulid these core? you now, elements, how to bulid. I wohnt to have one too they soo good, funny. The best ever.

  • Valve you want to make money right...? HIRE THIS GUY.

  • can you tell me more detail of size and part , please. I have proD , i hope i have my own wheatley plz

  • @ammnra So is there any chance to get the files? I'd like to make one of these full-scale.

  • Volpin! Yay :D

  • @ammnra I was so happy to see you using SolidWorks! As a first year mechanical engineering student, I've just gotten into the basics of the program, so seeing such a cool use for it is really inspiring!

  • whats the turret you were talking about? i cant find it on the web...

    im very interested

  • Thanks for the how it was made video! Shows just how awesomely detailed and meticulous your work is. I definitely think it'd be a good idea for people interested to start pestering Valve to contact you concerning mass producing these. I doubt they could come up with a better mechanical design if they tried.

  • I want that Wheatley one you made so badly.

  • I'm sure Valve would let you sell these if you asked. they are so well made!

  • pity you aint selling these. they are really good, i'd buy em for sure

  • Awesome! If you made a companion cube my life would be complete.

  • wow thank you for this, a big help for my project that i'm doing. your work really is amazing and you probably get this all the time but i would pay for one of those and you are right we should get onto valve about this because i would love a personality core on my desk

  • Honest, I would pay 20 Dollars/Euro + what all the materials costs per core.

Damn it would be awesome having those on my desk.

  • Could you make the Portal turrets?

    that'll be sweet, Mini-turrets.

  • Tbh... you should start up a business making/selling these beauties (of course with VALVe's permission).

Mainly because I want to buy one. ^_^

SPAAAAAAACE! (Would be cool if it said that each time you threw it)

  • Give them a tiny speaker, and make them say their voice lines from the game.

    SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!

  • could you make me the cores from the game?

  • i would give my left nut to be able to craft like you

  • I would buy this in a heartbeat!

  • Haha, these little things are so cute. :3

  • Sigh, I'd really love to do this kind of stuff. While I've tried my hand at some 3D moddeling before, never in that level of detail, and only really with sketchup, so I don't think that counts so much. That, and I dont have a 3D printer, and methinks they aren't going to be cheap to buy, especially just for the occasional random model. You've made me really want one though. ;-;

    Awesome work!

  • Dude...you're awesome.....i would pay you for one of those....but im not from your country D: well....let's try to make one of those

  • you should put ur model for download so we can put it into the program so we can make our own

  • ok, not tryin to sound like a dick who is repeating exactly what u just said, but i have an idea. why not you or me make a fourm, get 200 (or 1,000) people to sign it, and send it to valve. If they respond to you saying yes, you tell the how to make the parts, and put it al togeather. Now i know its a long shot, but this idea is coming from a middle school boy who tried his hand at making a portal gun, and failed terribly. Why not we all work togeather to make this dream a reality Supermarionj

  • Do you have to do any welding whatsoever for this?

  • is it possible far anyone to pick up this hobby based on what you have given us or are classes and training recommended?

i would really like to get into this

  • YOU ARE A GOD

  • Okay, someone send this to Valve, I would pay so much for a tiny Space Core.

  • Do you personally own an Eden 350v or have access to one? Or do you use one of the sites you listen in the video?

  • @Draven172 That's what I would like to know. Those things are ridiculously expensive.
