They have never been a 'couple'. You would understand that if you watch their interviews in Russian. I presume you didn't, so they basically said they although they love each other and stuff, they are not/never have been a couple.
I have but you must do the disambiguation for the meaning of the word 'couple' because I think it varies form one culture to an other and even sometimes an individual to an other.
I mean if you read about them when they where 12-13, when they still sang at Neposedi (or is it Nesposedi? I forget) you could say they were in a certain way 'together' but that's because when two people are often with each other wether it be out of mutual understand, love etc. I consider them 'together'.
The truth is that in an interview they were asked both questions: "Are you gay?" and "Are you together?"
Both replied with:
"We hate labels. We are who we are and that is that. I shouldn't have to say I'm human, gay or straight. I'm me. We love each other and putting any sort of label on that diminishes the quality if whatever love it might be."
