As I recall, there was a huge stink when the song took off on FM radio, and Simple, pop song loving innocents brought "Illegal, Immoral, and fattening", home, seeking more sweetness, and found such prizes as "Eddy are you kidding?" and other Zappaesque tunes.
This song has been bangin' around in my head for the last 30+ years. Hard to believe Hammond wrote it as the simple wistfulness of a boy from the wrong side of the tracks.
Flo & Eddie turned that wistful boy into a bad dude, checkin' out the local flesh, when this tough guy falls in love. And the anger in the vocals is believable when he realizes how far above him she is, and he'll never have her. A good, sad biker song.
Too bad the end fades (the original ends cold), but thanks for posting it.
we named our daughter after this version

I actually prefer this to Albert Hammond's original, it sounds like a follow-up to Elenore!
