What happend? You guys try to buy something in Shanghai? This guy has a distinct Shanghai-mandarin dialect. In Shanghai, unless you speak Shanghai dialect people will always try to rip you off.
Yup that happened in Shanghai. It was in that marketplace near a temple or something like that.
Anyway, basically, Eva, off to the right a bit, had agreed to get her nails done at that businessman's boutique for a certain price. Unfortunately, whoever worked on Eva's nails screwed up doing the nails making them uglier than before and charged her something like 3-4x the agreed upon price. So when Eva told Linda what happened, that's when the above exchange happened.
@dangman4ever I think you guys are at 城隍庙。 I'm overseas Shanghainese, it is very unfortunate that you guys have to go through this. Shanghai is a beautiful city, you just need to keep your eyes open when shopping in tourest areas.
@dangman4ever So how did this get resolved? From what I have read, in China, typically both parties will compromise to avoid either losing face (mianzi). For example, refunding half of the money.
Cheating seems ingrained in Chinese culture, from fake goods to lousy service. I have never been to a Chinese dry cleaner in the US who did not cheat me in some way.
@RWT683 Basically, they got the man to refund most of the money she paid. More than half but not the full amount. So yeah a bit of a compromise was reached
I don't know some blogger, It's a normally nego in Far-East.
