@Wiggalama Youre are correct in the fact that judo can be used for self defence, in which the only rule that matters is get out safe/sound. Whilst in the sport of judo, its important to show the restraint, sportsmanship, etc to follow the rules. Besides, the rules help us practice at full speed with no injuries.

@joeyoungttgu Thanks for the compliment. The kids are all still in judo. Rebekah went on to take 1st in her age division in the Alaska State judo tournament. ***proud daddy moment.*** Steven and Amy both took second, and Robyn did very well for being so new to the sport....

@shangss They are on mats made especially for judo. They are soft, but provide enough support for judo.

BS rules don't matter, ippons mean little compared to achieving the first ground dominance. Anyway, when you do an osoto gari, while he did attack the lead leg and did it fairly quick, he didn't pull to the opposite side or go for the hold in the back, and he didn't lean in, which the lack of a lean is the main reason why he was countered.

That blue judogi competitor performed Osoto gari wrongly, therefore he losed his balance first and let the little girl counters him perfectly... haha, such fun watching little kids playing Judo ... good job for that little girl =)

She did good but she shouldn't just walk up to who ever she's fighting, that's like she asking to been thrown, but when she was she did good by landing on her fount and staying there and then beating him.
