  • SUPER FRESH

  • Beats the version that Phil Collins put his grubby mitts to. Not that I hate all of Collins's stuff, but the collaborative version of this song he made was really crap versus the original here. It lost all feeling and became relatively bland.

  • @colin5577 this "original" version sounds like a cheap home-demo besides the version with phil collins' powerful drums and backing vocals...! I guess howard would say the same, ask him!

  • @timonraphael There's no accounting for taste. These analogue electronic drums sound much better and more powerful, if you ask me. What sounds like a cheap demo to you is an unadorned straightforward song to me, as opposed to the more commercial Collins version full of cheap unnecessary sounds and effects here and there that spoiled the beauty of the original.

  • @hindsighter You said it best :)

  • @timonraphael I've just found out that the drum sounds actually come from Led Zepellin's version of When the Levee Breaks, so it's Phil Collins vs John Bonham. The latter wins.

  • Check out my cover of "No One is to Blame" now on iTunes!

    Thanks and much love,

    JULES LARSON

  • cool. never heard this version

  • This song taught me that nothing was really my fault, even though I felt like everything was.

  • It's an interesting sound...not sure I like it better, but it certainly isn't worse.

  • I remember the concert at Merriwether Post Pavillion. (many years ago). It was a great show in the 90's

  • This, indeed, sounds very different from the one heard on the 1986 EP "Action Replay".

  • this is so good! thank you.

  • The best version by far! Thanks for posting! :)

  • Thanks for putting this up, i've always HATED the 'new' version.. ridiculous drums from a cheap casio keyboard (it sounded like) were never needed on it lol I can't believe Phil Collins was behind that... wow

  • When I was a teenager I had a cassette of this version... lost it, and probably spent 5 years trawling used record stores looking for it again, as I never liked the newer version... 20 years later here it is. Gotta love technology. Thanks Redcomusic!

  • Best Version is always the original... Thanks a Billion for posting!

The other versions just don't have the same feel. They strike me as 'sappy, weepy' versions. This is the definitive version to me.

  • Never heard this version before. Damn.

  • I like this version better as well :)

  • This song is great!! One of my favorites from the eighties. Great lyrics! I think I will post a link to this on Facebook!!! ARRRR

  • still sounds SUPER FRESH

  • A good song is a good song. No matter the arrangement, the song is good. I do prefer the more familiar, more polished version of the song though.

  • Doesn't sound as the original to me and I have the original record

  • @eldorado61guy This is the first version I heard and I loved it. Then they started playing the other more commercial version with Phil Collins on acoustic drums and I hated it. They forgot about this better version with an electric piano and analogue drums.

  • @hindsighter I stand corrected

  • @eldorado61guy OK, and while we're at it, which do you like better?

  • Great find. Love this song.

  • Keep 'em coming,my friend.

This what Music is before the machine "spinz" it.

    Peace,

    -g

  • Good song!

    Lebt wohl !!!

  • I first heard this in the back of an A&P/Super Fresh in South Jersey... memories LOL

  • howard jones - a visionary...a shame that these days puny fools stand on the shoulders of giants like these.

  • Great song lyrically; but too melancholy for my tastes. I like the Phil Collins produced version better because the music and melody is more jazzed up.

  • This "raw" version seems so much more emotion filled. Much preferred!!

  • Sorry but when i heard this on the lp "Dream Into Action" that i just got i was like "WHAT?", so being used to the version on the EP "Action Replay" i have to always choose the latter version from the EP.

  • I like this version best as well. Wore out my Dream Into Action cassette and Action Replay with the Phil Collins produced version.

  • This is the best version! Always makes me cry....a lot of memories attached to it for me. *sigh*

  • Me, too :)

  • @redcomusic i'm a big boy but me three. This version is a Great One.

  • me too(:

  • @hauntedwriter , me too. i cried ALL the time when this song first came out, and it still makes me cry to this very day, even as i type this with tears in my eyes. it's as if this song is just too beautiful and true, to not cry to it.

  • @hauntedwriter too right. God bless and hope u cry no more

  • @hauntedwriter Me too

  • gorgeous

  • found it! bn looking for this version for ages. Much better than the "normal" version

  • Fabbian '80s... Forever '80s

  • phil collins version is better esp the synth intro/outro

  • Phil Collins RUINED this song when he produced it as a single and it was a hit...I was a SLAP in the face of this original

  • Whatever!! And besides, this was over 20 years ago!!

  • amazing song. it makes me feel great as I was drugged

  • Great song. great version.

  • The BEST!!! version of this song BY FAR!!!!!! :) Gives me the chills and brings me back to when I used to listen to this CASSETTE!! tape while on the beach with my friends!!!! To the GOOD OLE' days!! Thanks for posting this one!! :)

  • What a beautiful song , he is the most talented men in these world , no band , just him , wow.AHHH , i miss the 80's.

  • holy 80's

    no one is to blame

    it is what it is,,,

  • Like 80's pop or not, this is a timeless song. Wonder who will cover it in ten years and make it a hit again?

  • Lord, no.

  • I do like this version better.

This song always grabs my attention and I stop whatever I'm doing and just .....listen, and remember.

  • I find it totally incredible that at this time in my life, how well this song expresses my life. Going back and finding my first love from 35 years ago and he is also living this song. And he is feeling the same for me as I am feeling for him. How cruel is fate! Thanks for posting. :=)))

  • this is the first record i've ever bought...i was ten...haven't heard of it since...thnx

  • Excellent track

  • This song brings me back to the mid-80's! This is a great song!

  • This music is so great. The eighties revisited. Thank you for posting and greetings from Groningen, Holland!

  • Thank you SOOOOOOO MUCH

  • I woke up the other morning singing this song in my mind!!! I found this version,I love it!!

  • I love this version. In fact, I think that this is the most "pure" version on Youtube.

  • This version is the best one. The one he did with Phil Collins was all wrong, it had no soul and meaning. This has it all and H J playing all the music.

  • THANK YOU! for posting this! I had a copy of this song and lost it in a move. My husband did not believe this version existed!

  • you're welcome. glad you found it :)

  • I don't even think Phil collins is singing the background vocals in this one

  • no Afrodiziak either

  • bleh...

I like the other version much better, especially the intro :-(

Too bad it was copyrighted and removed.

  • Oh my God this is just awesome thank you so much for posting.
