  • yea so what are you saying man we all know this but twc in brooklyn dont run that yet

  • @sertox12345

this video was made 3 years ago -- so at the time it was very relavant . By the end of 2009 there was only a few cities who had docsis 3 speeds and the modem too

  • can some one help me? i have it and i connect my xbox 360 directly and it disconect every 10 or 15 min what can i do?

  • I have a quick question. I put a Security PW so people can't use my internet connection for themselves. and when I put a PW. I go onto my macbook pro and it says 'connection timeout' ? whys that?

  • 30Mbps with that thing? Hell i get faster than that with an older modem (Docsis 2.0)

  • @thelasthallow

Keep in mind this video is 2 years old. I dont think in the summer of 2009 you were getting 30Mbps with a docsis 2.0 - If so I want to know what cable company you have and what city. Im not saying that was impossible in 2009 but its only certain cable companies ( and I know who) And only Certain cities who were doing 30Mbps on a docsis2.0 in summer of 2009. You would have to had the fastest tier of that cable company, Probably a non XP computer with at least 2 gig. I can go on..

  • @thelasthallow

I get 100Mbps now -- been gettin that since about summer of 2010 WHEN IT WAS 1ST AVAILABLE IN SAN DIEGO. Some cities already had docsis 3.0 where you could get more than 50Mbps down in late 2009 and early 2010. I know the cities that had this technology and which cable companies were doing it in late 2009 and early 2010. See Video post next

  • the link blicks in mos code

  • I'm telling you take it from a professional Motorola makes one of the best modems ever produce. They never give us problems out in the field. I've encountered a few Surf Board 6120 in the field and they RF Lock to the CMTS in no time at all.

  • @soundwave14

These came out in summer of 2009- In early 2010 I had so many techs come to my house and they didnt even have one of these in their equipment on the truck. They seem to be dazzled by my new modem. But in 2010 This really wasnt new anymore, especially to a cable tech. Yeah Motorola has very few serious bugs on their new stuff. I actually think a cisco docsis 3.0 modem wil out perform a Motorola. Thats just speculation on my part. I just caint really afford to buy a cisco

  • I like the fact that it has mad vents on it. My Dlink just went out overheated I let it cool down for a day it works then fucks up on me again. I just ordered this modem on amazon for cheaper then 130 bucks... prime account ftw 2 day shipping.

  • @oddsource - Prime acct with amazon, Thats Awesome Dude-- I order a lot of crap from amazon and i always go the cheap route and ship in 5-8 days-- lol

Yeah I have had this since fall of 2009 and it never gets hot or anything and i run mines 24/7 - (Comp stays on for years at a time)--I am wired, I been wanting to go wireless and buy a wireless router but im rocking 75Mb down and 8Mb up so I would have issues if I install something to slow me down from that. Im addicted to channel bonding.

  • @kirktaylor2010 i got my modem for 60 bucks 3.0 is so fast

  • What's the BEST router out there and is there one that acts as a router/modem-DOCSIS 3.0 that can connect directly to coaxial cable?

  • @mytuber81

hmmm, Im a lil rusty in the router dept, especially when it comes to newest technology that is router/modem/docsis3 all in one. BUT I would advise you to begin to look around this model. --Motorola SURFboard Gateway SBG6580 DOCSIS 3.0 Wireless Cable Modem--If i had a gun to my head and had to make the decision without a weeks worth of research and tech blogs and such. ( thats jus me) I would go with this one and save the receipt so you can take it back when you see how it does.

  • @mytuber81

take that name i gave you and go to amazon and pull up that model and read all the reviews under that brand. I would give the link but you know youtube dont allow links. Im kinda old school, I think in this situation I would get the wireless network going then add the docsis3 modem. But I like your way , it sounds newer. Im still running a wired modem and no router at home. Im at 30 mbps now and in march im upgrading to the 50Mbps package. Its a special for 3 months. 50 bucks/mo

  • Good video

  • @mytuber81

    Cool Thanks

  • @ShahriarCMOS

The people who dislike this video are rednecks and they dont like blacks anyway. So you need to chill and go dis someone else. But this video was good for info like a year ago. Its not even relevant now. Who is stil using a docsis 2 modem ? - No one. Everyone has upgraded already so I dont know why you guys feel you have to leave dumb comments. Its like finding a beeper old school pagr video (from the 80's) and leaving comments on that.

  • @ShahriarCMOS

I tell you what buddy-- If you come to my page talkin shit like your boy who called me a goof, then ill step off in yo ass. You lames go around on youtube disrespecting on another then when someone rips your head off you seem shocked. If you aint got nothing good to say , dont say shit. Got it. Its ways you can state your point without disrespecting people. Furthermore I could careless about a rating from some idiots on youtube. This video was information from 8/2009----6/2010

  • @ShahriarCMOS

but obviously some people didnt get it. I stil dont understand how they stumble on this video 2 years later and still dont get it. The one guy said he was tech support or was a repairman. I wonder who he is ripping off cause he doesn't know much. Thats the same dude that called me a goof and thinks im supposed to sit back while he insults me. Such a dumass he was

ANYONE WANTING TO ENJOY SPEEDS OF 50Mbps AND FASTER NEED A DOCSIS 3 MODEM---- DUH

  • @ShahriarCMOS

Well the top cable companies offer the 50Mbps now and my cable company Cox Jus started offering this ultimate speed package of 50Mbps. It normally cost 100 bucks a month just for the internet connection but you can get a special for 3 months promotion for 50 bucks. This is what docsis 3 modem was designed for -- from 50 Mbps - 150Mbps at your house , not commercial , not business. That was the point of this video I made back in Dec 2009. Most people got it .

  • Can i use something called lynksis with this? because there are 2 computers in my house and i want to know if this can be used for wireless with lynksis?

  • @1Henry15

Yes for sure it would be from cable wire out of wall to this modem then to your router -- or wall to router then to this modem- I forget

But check with your cable company tech support or router tech support before you purchase routers and this modem. I need to go wireless myself but been procrastinating.

  • im so tired of him saying techhead and geekhead.

  • @dcninja

if you tired of hearing it maybe ummm , IDK, stop watching the video

    dumass

  • ...said, I will agree not to converse with you on this matter anymore as you don't handle conversation well. Have a good day sir.

  • WOW! You have quite the temper. There is really no need to get so worked up when someone disagrees with you. Your aggressive, offensive nature only solidifies your insecurities in yourself. At any rate, I am obviously far over qualified to debate matters of technology with someone who gets their information from blogs. I have a multiple certifications in different areas of IT, run a successful business/residential PC repair service and have been a systems administrator for 18 years. That being

  • Your download/upload speeds will be whatever you are currently paying for and will not simply increase by moving from a DOCSIS 2.0 to a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. With my cable provider, if you select a plan with 30 Mbps, you will get 30 Mbps. I don't care if you have (hypothetically) a DOCSIS 8.0.

  • @DownRange02

Look dude , the big picture here is not 30 down from your cable company. I dont know why you seem this is relevant comment now. But In 2009 when all the big cable companies did all the upgrades and spent bilions of dollars to get docsis 3 going. This modem goes up to 160 megs down ROCKET SCIENTIST. You really need to g read some tech blogs and bring yourself up to speed. Stay the hell off my page with your flamer comments. Comcast, and the cox and the other big companies Have

  • @DownRange02

Plans to have wireless homes and they have them already where the whole house is broadband ad no internet wires and you sure as hell aint do that with docsis 2 . Running 5 and 6 rooms with media and computers in all rooms an high speed internet that is way faster than 30 down.

They sell it now where it is 50 down and its gonna be much higher at everyones house, like 100 down will be regular . I dont know what rock you been under but go back .

  • Your a goof. Not every tech head out there got this right away, in addition not all cable services offered this DOCSIS 3.0 till mid to fall of 2010. If you are going to do a video please don't be a goof.

  • @mastermind48451

Dude the whole video is about docsis 3 and NEW download and upload speeds. Why in the hell would i need to break it down into megabits. That is the most absurd thing i heard. So when you say 2 hours , do you say 432,000 seconds or do you actually say 2 hours. Look you aint no internet po-leece and ill post what the hell i want on my page. Keep your lil comments to yourself in your klan meetings and at your dinner table. Furthurmore - see next post .........

  • @kirktaylor2010 Are you calling me a racist? Dude what is your problem, you obviously didn't read anything on DOCSIS 3.0. I am assuming your a racist since you bring Klan into the message. My comment had nothing to do with that, and guess buddy, that makes you even more of a GOOF.

  • @mastermind48451

In the fall of 2009 all the big cable companies started docsis3 -- time warner cable, cox, att, comcast -- Its about 4 or 5 more large cable companies and they all had it mid, and late 2009 and early 2010. I dont know where you at where you are jus now discussing docsis 3. Who is discussing megabits ( mb)-- no one --Unless you are a engineer discussing parameters or something. When talking about internet speeds of course you say Megabytes-- DUH----

    GO PLAY SOMEWHERE ELSE

  • why do u have a filter on your cable going to your modem does it give you the 50mb but not really paying it

  • @krzymike2004

That thing is on there because I was having some connection issues and some tech who came out didnt know what he was doing and was trying all kinds of stuff to fix it. In about 2-3 months , I had about 15-20 truck rolls to my place for issues non related to 6120

  • @krzymike2004

The filter does not increase speed or anything. The modem naturally will get everything off the cable line that is there. Usually I have found since i had in dec 2009 every time im doing a speed test , im a lot faster than what i was paying for .

In sd the fastest you can pay for right now is about 25 down but you will rockin at about 30-40 down most of the time.

Cox is my cable company so on west coast they dont have ultimate service package which is 50 down. Comcast has it

  • @krzymike2004

Just depends on how much speed the cable company has on your node. In the city every has cable in most neighborhoods therefore making the nodes smaller like 25 users per node or something and then you get faster speeds.

The more people on the node and the cable company doesnt spilt it into more nodes then it jus slows down the overall speed. They are good about when too many are on a node they will divide it up to smaller nodes so everybody is fast.

  • Pittsburgh pa has it and its freaking fast! I kid you not! My ex girlfriend or my baby's momma are still best friends. And she has it cause she is a hard core gamer and host alot of games on call of duty and Americas army. and trust me she is not paying for all of it cause all her clans members don't even have that capability so they donate to her! its payed for but yeah its a crisp hundred dollars But its not worth it if your just on to brows and download some music. just get the blast! .

  • @egnin1

DOCSIS 3 ROCKS even though they still have not delivered in san diego -- the fastest we can get is about 30 MBPS down and 5 up

  • @kirktaylor2010

MBPS OR Mbps. am confused it should be Mbps=megabits. cause if it is MBPS= megabytes then you sir have the fastest internet in the world

  • @saneblane

Cmon man, --You know what I mean. I dont think anyone who can understand 20 down or 30 down is gonna be gettin mega (Mb) and MB confused.

This argument would work back when the internet was new from 1995 - 2000 but not this day and age.

    lol-- nice joke though

  • @egnin1

I bet comcast is your cable company

we have cox cable and they late but las vegas has docsis 3 and they are on cox

Actually most all cities have it already

  • I got it for free. Just call your cable provider. By law they have to give it to you for free.

  • If I have a lower tier service (15 mb/s) and I get this modem, will it increase my speeds at all? I'm already getting 20 mb/s, so is my current modem bottlenecking my speeds?

  • @mikitymike

No, I doubt it will increase your speed. This modem is for when you want to go faster than 25Mb per second on downloads. 1st you have to up grade to the fastest service your cable company has which is probaly around 25 down and 5- 10 up. I think thats the fastest nationwide. But once you upgrade your tier then get the modem then you may see speeds of 25-30 and up to 40 I have heard of people eting that regular.

The modem is made for 50 - 180 Mb per second.

  • @kirktaylor2010 The fastest comcast has is 50 mb/s up and 10 mb/s down, for $100/mo, so no way am I paying for that. I read some review on newegg on this modem and people said they were paying for 15 mb/s and getting 30-40 mb/s. I just wanted to know if this was possible.

  • @mikitymike

Okay wow- I didnt know comcast had went ahead and released that already . Those people who have that service should be docsis 3 with all 4 channels bonding.

I only have 2 channels bonding , im on a lower tier right now. The fastest I could upgrade to is about 30-40 with 2 channels bonding. im in san diego

( you meant 50 down and 10 up)

That is a fast as hell upload at 10.-- wow , im sure ,those people love they service.

  • @kirktaylor2010 yes lol I wish I was that rich, I wonder if that fcc thing about every home having 1 Gb/s down will actually go through.

  • @mikitymike

Yea that can happen, It happned to me where i used to live when I 1st brought this modem in dec 2009 --

Everyone is still using 2.0 modems -- what idiots--- Buy this modem soon buddy and just get it over with. If you have any tech friends they have it.

  • @kirktaylor2010 lol I AM the tech friend, but I (my parents) are not able to and don't want to pay so much.

  • @mikitymike It's possible to reach those speeds due to burst in the config file that the isp sends to the modem

  • @mikitymike

The cable companies may start releasing those speeds in 2011. I doubt if they do it in 2010. It seems they are trying to get all their areas covered with docsis 3 still.

I currently dont know of anyone with docsis 3 in their city. It was some cities late last year and early this year but I havnt heard no one discuss it in a long time . I read all the tech blogs on cable too-- soo IDK

  • Alright, well earlier my modem (like this one) wasn't working? the online light wasn't going on, but all the others were. I unplugged it, and replugged it and took a nap, and it worked again? Any tips on preventing this from occurring again?

  • @thatdummykidd

my guess it was something to do with your internet connection coming from able company at that particular moment. Internet sounds like it was down.

im guessing you could not get online when this happened the reason you took a nap. so idk.

hopefully that modem was not bad

  • best modem i have bought

  • Actually it's a great awesome and fast modem, HOWEVER if you have a shit cable company such as Comcast you will not really get to experience any gains that it's capable of.

I got one of these for family in Los Angeles - they have Time Warner - and consistently get speeds of 100 Mbps down, and at the least 40 Mbps, compared to the same "level" of "service" I get from Comcast - 3~9.5Mbps down and .5 Mbps up.

That being said - this is an excellent modem, cheaper than renting and faster than stock

  • bill cosby talking about docsis 3.0 lol

    good video

  • i got one and i only got around like 24.5 to about 31.1

  • @mksmalls86

Since i have posted this vid the cable company has done some upgrades and my link light is constanly blue indicating its getting a 1GHZ connection on my node all the time.

They are going to deploy docsis3 any day now (next couple months) Im gonna make a new vid showing all 4 channels bonding and all lights blue indicating im getting about 50-75 for my download speeds

  • I'm just got this modem, going to this from DSL, I know that I need a router now so My wife can use her laptop, I also bought the D-Link DGL-4500, So if I understand this, I have to connect My DGL-4500 to My ethernet on My pc, then one of the ethernet jacks from the DGL-4500 router to the Cable Modem, Is this going to harm restrict my speeds vs just having Just the Modem Connected without going through router? I made sure the Router was very high end...

  • Ok im no expert but a few things are the basics. If you put a router on your wired line it will slow it down , thats just a fact of life. But its a livable adjustment when you have more than one computer in the house.

Glad to hear you are going from dsl to regular cable. Its 2010 they should outlaw dsl and especially dial up stuff.

Yes the connections will go from your cable line out wall to this modem , then to router, then to however many computers you have in your house.

  • I want to Use this and Also hookup My Wife's Laptop, Do I need a Router to do this? I'm going from DSL to Cable, but haven't done so yet, And also will the router slow down My connection at all? Since I'm guessing My Desktop will be connected to the router then this modem...?

  • i connect my xbox 360 to this modem work gr8

  • I just bought this modem and I was wondering if the type of router used makes a large difference in speed. If so is there a certain router you suggest? Thanks!

  • Im not up on routers as of the last few years since im only running one computer in my home. But if i were buying a router, id do the home work. Cisco is the top then some motorola stuff , linksys and whatever else is up there.

As far as a cheap router compared to a expensive one, when it comes to speed?

    I dont know.

If I had to guess, I dont think its gonna make a difference that much. Its not gonna choke off bandwith or slow it down , no more than it normally does anyway.

  • may want to check the tech blogs or geek squad or ask your local electronics store dude

  • @387spiral

You may have already found out but, if you are wireless you need a Wireless N router and adapter for your computer if it is not 802.11N capable.

  • would you happen to know if this would work if i was trying to connect to Xbox live with a direct connection?

  • I have this same modem and it worked well for a while. Now it just constantly restarts after all the LEDs turn green meaning it's fully operational. Any suggestions?

  • Its just a modem. The most anyone can get out of a 2.0 modem is 38 down.

When the cable companies release the newer speeds in 2010. You will need to have a 3.0 modem in order to get the 50 down and 10 up speeds that will be available .

  • @kirktaylor2010 ive got roadrunner standard 10mbs down 512kbs up i get on a docsis 1.0 modem n it pushes 35+down n 500kbs up on an arris modem i was told that with the wideband(docsis 3.0) not to get get it right now because it was just released and still in testing by a employee of optimum

  • Is this a router and modem combined like the sbg901 ? What is the difference between the 2 units ?

  • Now that I dont know. I do know that a t & t is really not true high speed internet. I think they are more like dsl.

Then I may be wrong. But you can call your cable company and ask if the 6120 is compatible with their network and what speeds are available under docsis 3.0 modem speeds

  • I have AT&T as a provider and using speedstream. Can use Motorola Surf Board 6120 in replacement of moderm that AT&T given me?

  • @zondaf07 nope thats dsl ude have be better off getting somthing like fios its more reliable n cheaper the speeds r awesome around 30mbs down n20mbs up

  • by Ultimate you meant LIGHTNING? cuz we just had this snew thing Called RoadRunner Lightning, or the Ultimate wold be even faster?

  • Ok by Ultimate that is in house terms for cox cable. I forget what comacst calls their 50 mbps down and 10 up

Your city and your companies names , I dont know. I did see where they are offering LIGHTING for 40 Mbps down .

I smell a rat. ---All the different cable companies fastest speeds are at 50 Mbps down , (no matter what the name)

Help clear this up by offering your city and which cable company you use and we will clear it up specifically for you

  • Im From Clearwater,FL, we have here Roadrunner from Brighthouse, I heard that Comcast is the same company as a Brighthouse just has a diferent name up North.

  • I looked at what you guys pay in your city and what you pay for 52 is the fastest we have avail in san diego now.

You guys have a 62 dollar internet package and a 99 dollar internet package , that we dont have those yet.

I actually think comcast last 2 tiers are overpriced in your city. I hope when they redo our prices in January they are not like that.

If i have to pay 100.00 for 50 down and 10 up , I will ,in tears pay the bill every month.

  • Wow. Interestingly, what is the ball park price per month for lightening speed? I'm on a dern budget.

  • In San Diego the prices are as follows. 20-30-40 54

20 is the cheap and I had it for about 3-4 years before. Your basic average user can get by with this---

30 is also what a lot of average people use.

40 is preferred and these speeds are for gamers and wannabe geeks

54 is the fastest in san diego NOW. Its for geek heads , gamers,or people who just want the best.

There is a new speed in las vegas that will be released in san diego in January it is Called ULTIMATE .

  • so if i get this modem and install it correctly i should see speed increases instantly? i thought the companies cap you at what you pay for?

  • Actually you have to install it, and upgrade your service to the fastest for your city with your cable company.

Most everyone is at premier but a few cities like las vegas and 1 or 2 other states and cities have the ULTIMATE SPEED .

When you pay for ultimate you will be getting 40-60Mbps down , easy and 10 upload .

In San Diego we are at premier only. In january they will release new frequencies city wide.

Rhode Island , Virgina, Las vegas and Lafayette Louisiana have ULTIMATE SPEED now.

  • Yep-- Cox in San Diego will be releasing new frequencies in January to the rest of San diego . It is being tested in oceanside in dec 2009 . Las Vegas has completed testing and Palos Verdes in Cal. (which are the testing areas for cox)

No bugs and They are already enjoying speeds of 40-75 Mbps as normal with just regular tier upgrades and new Modem.

The new frequency make it possible for the modemsto access the new faster speeds. Which results in channel bonding

  • OMG, cant wait 2 get mine lord knows i need a faster modem like this 1.
