Yes he knows that, was having issues with the ends catching and almost flipping over so he turned it around but then gave bugger all protection as which showed in the video.
Ouch I had a similar crash js ysterday, hit a garden table leg with one of my blades, crack! I know the feeling. I'm in the process of repairs huhu =( gotta replace one main gear and both new blades. Check my vid of my first crash.
damn i broke mine 2 times. the wind realy f@cks it. iam going to replace the plastic with aluminium and carbon. i heard that the head lock gyro stabilize it better at windy conditions.
Well so far every time i've had a boom strike on aluminum its dented or been minor damaged to the boom but every time with a carbon fibre boom it's been cut clean off with just the belt holding on.
the carbon fibre bars were getting cut up on the concrete so moved them to the top of the skids but the rods kept popping out of the centre holder all the time so after putting the center holder in upside down the stopped popping out but yes in the slow motion on the TV you can see the protection of the trainers is very compromised.
someone i know on a forum suggested only flying on hard surfaces so the training u/c doesnt get caught in the grass, you flying quite well till you crash :) don't worry i'm still a noob aswell
Every time we have flown on grass things always go REALLY bad!
I have now flown about 10-15 batteries out on concrete with out incident everytime so far every time I've been on grass i've gone home with a box of bits.
the best place we have found is an indoor basketball hall, nice hard surface no wind and lines to fly along and circles to land in.
but every morning i'm out flying on the concrete in the back yard all way seems pretty wind still.
The heli featured in the video is now flying again as of this week but GekkoNz is still waiting on some spares for it but is chuffed he can fly again at least i managed to borrow his lipos so i had some more fly time while he was down.
i have never used one but if you are having trouble learning you could try learning with a "co-pilot" unit, it uses high tech stuff to keep the heli stable, when you get better you turn down the gain and it becomes more difficult, also try this forum rcgroups dot com and go down to the "mini helis" forum, my nickname is vanepico
The wind picked it up so he pulled back on the throttle but then the wind fell away and before he could throttle up again if landed hard with reasonable forward speed (i suspect one if the trainer bars or skid dug in) it flipped front over and then the blades hit flipping it hard on to the side. he is still waiting on parts, should hopefully only take a week or so. I've just got mine back together again so am looking forward to just practicing hovering :)

Dont use training gear, it only makes crashes worse.

All three of us are running head locking and make a world of difference. the aluminium might be a good idea but the carbon is very brittle.
it's light weight and reasonably strong but any hit with speed will smash it.

so you are saying the carbon fiber is only good if you need to loose weight, but for durability, get aluminum ?

so aluminum is the way to go then ?
kilimats02 3 years ago
if your learning Yes. I find it the most rugged for crashes. if your really good then may be carbon fiber.

it cant have help that you had the training U/C upside down :)
