@LaylaHaOr why don't you try to make your own whistle? I've tried a Susato Kildare but I still think the whistle made by me is better... Take a look at my channel... There is a whistle comparison: Susato Kildare, Generation and the whistle I made myself
Nice effort and thanks but given the recording setup it is nigh impossible to make a meaningful comparison. Personally, I love the Susato but my 30+ year old Generation Brass C with all it's dents and discolouration would not be parted with for love or money. I think a whistle is like a stradvarius violin - improves its tone with playing and age. Never a fan of the harsher sound of the nickel whistles.
Best sound of your whistles: Dixon and Clarke I think. I've tested a Generation Nickel, sometimes it sounds to shrill. Now I play a TWZ Al Jo (TWZ is a german producer).
That's because I'm using a cheap microphone...Recently I get a very better mic, so I'm trying to record a new comparison video, with better quality...
No, they both great, but the Dixon Trad is so much better than the generation...I don't know if it's worth the money, because the cost of thing change around the world...But my advice is: between the generation and the dixon, get a dixon...
The Susato Dublin is a great whistle, although I don't use much, because it's the louder, and I don't wanna bother my neibors (sorry the english...kkkk)...For other hand, the "airyless" make the whistle sound like a recorder....
I have two Kildares in D, a small bore and a very small bore. I love the very small bore, it's not as loud and it's fun to play. You can get that extra half octave with it but it gets really hard to control. I tend to always grab my brass Clare D, I love the sound of a brass whistle. I have a Walton brass C and it's a lot like the D you played.
Yes, this is an opinion I don't agree, but I respect, because for begginers, it's better to begin with an instrument that isn't the best...But, in case of whistle, you can have the better with the cheaper...Thanks for the comment
I got a Dixon for Christmas from my girlfriend there, and I'm enjoying playing it a lot, previously I had mostly just used generations. I find though, that the plastic part seems to leak some saliva, making your lower lip wet. Do you know if this is something they are supposed to do, or commonly do?
IF Waltons Little Black is the one sponsored by Guinness, i have that one. I have a few generation's made from brass but the gold covering keeps rubbing off, are there measures you can take to stop that from happening? It might now affect the sound but its a little annoying ...
Well, I think the Guinness whistle is made by Walton's...
I have a lot of generations, not my favorite, but you know, that rubbing off, with the time, made your whistle looks like an ancient instrument...I think it's beautiful, some people think not...To avoid this, you can buy a whistle in nickel or in plastic...
You must be sick of that tune now..
I actually want to know if it's worth buying a wood whistle. Is there much difference?

Thanks for the comparison. I love how the Susato Dublin sounds wow.

They all sound great to me. I've just started learning to play on a 'toy' whistle purchased from a museum gift shop for about £1.00!
It and I both sound terrible together.
I've got a Susatso in the post!

The sound quality has been largely improved, compared with the first video.
That said, it is still compressed, probably due to the AGC (Automatic Gain Control) that you should deactivate to get the real sound and dynamics.

I agree. Just listening to these comparisons I though both Generations sounded horrible.
Hey andrenm2, have you played the "Tony Dixon Polymer whistle" I am very curious to see what that one sounds like.

Yes, I think a whistle is something very personal...Some like one, some like other...
And the mic I used don't help so much...indeed...
Thanks for all the comments

The Susato Dublin, in my opinion, has the best sound. It's not as airy as the others.

andrenm2 3 years ago
so which is your favourite?
o00DonnyEnglish00o 3 years ago
Well, my favorite?
For showing the instrument for others: Waltons Irish Brass;
For training some tune, without caring for breath: Clarke Celtic;
For playing loud: Susato Dublin;
For recording: Dixon Trad
That responds? hahahaha
