You always have such great videos of your land. I'm in the land now, Sondrio. Haven't made it to Carnia yet, but someday I will for sure. Blessings a te and to your family. --Monique
old Rome obviously had a hard time fighting this tribe in these hills! unless they already had a deal with Rome to fight off any german incursions in the area. Ariovistus passed close to here i think. i wonder what happened here. did he attack? did he offer a deal? id love to know the details!
I didn't know about Ariovistus....i think he never attacked this area. the Romans invaded this land, but in principle they were defeated. Celts and the Romans fought in different ways. the Romans were superior in number, and they usually attacked in mass, while the Celts fought only with his strongest warrior. However, the Romans were not able to penetrate to the bottom in our mountains.
the area in which I live is called Carnia and takes its name from the Celtic people that lived here. The Carni. Another people who left the sign were the Lombards, Scandinavian warriors who settled here after a long migration. The people who marked this area and the whole Northern Italy were Celts and Lombards.
@AlpineWinter MAGICAL! It's like you can hear the druids yelling the Celtic Carni people out to war! You can just picture them building their trademark stone art/architecture.

Lovely, thanks for sharing. Amazing to see how close our ancestors lived to nature and the seasons, and, by contrast, how far removed we are now.

Amazing that you can just hike up and connect to a distant past. Perhaps some are the foundations of houses long gone.
