we really were an incredible team in the 90.s Aikman, Emmitt, Irvin, Moose, Jay the o line, woodson, so many awesome players. not to mention Jimmy Johnson was an awesome coach. thanks for posting brings backs memories. COWBOYS FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!
Every Cowboys fan needs to see this drive, and not just Cowboy fans, every NFL fan needs to see this drive! This was the end of the era where games were won not by throwing circus balls or showboating, but with sustained, professional drives that killed half a quarter of the clock, and chewed up yardage slowly but surely, championship quality drives under pressure. Coaches like Parcells,Johnson, fundamentals football that won championships. Not nowadays. The quality of play is so bad now it's pathetic.
@bicround Amen you see how much of this drive was Aikman to Novacek, chewing up yardage 6, 7, 8 yards at a time with Emmitt running in between. SUSTAINED drive with poise, under pressure to win a huge game. The Cowboys of today aren't capable of this, they just aren't. Today's Cowboys bomb the ball for 350 yards, go up on a team 27-3, and still lose the game. It's just not the same any more.
In a drive like this, guaranteed Romo would fumble or get intercepted trying to do something stupid.
I still think Walter Payton was a better running back than Emmit. Emmit was great but ran behind one of the all time great offensive lines in football history. Payton ran behind shitty o-lines for most of his career.
@upchurch231 You are so right. Most if not all of Walter Paytons yards came because of his determination. That makes him better than Emmit in my book. My late brother told me he never saw Walter Payton once run out of bounds. He probably did, but I never saw it either. He just ran over people.
@gammastation Yea I never saw him run out of bounds. I've only ever seen him forearm people in the face, or run smack dab into dudes. Payton was a beast. Don't get me wrong Emmit was great but like you said nobody will ever run with the determination Payton did.
The Cowboys of the 90s won 3 Championships in four years. They won 10 out of 11 playoff games in that stretch. In the 10 playoff games they won, including Superbowls, they won them all by 10 0r more points. Total Domination of other great teams in that era Eagles, Niners, Packers, Bills, Steelers etc....
Yea I mean we both make valid points. The fact of the matter is that they will never play each other so it's only arguable to an extent. Lambert is the main one that would give them hell.
@atmobb Yes Lord...Do you think that our idiot owner would swallow his damn pride, call Jimmy and say? "Look, Jimmy, we need you. Head Coach, Team VP, whatever you want" ....I can only dream..take care and Happy Holidays....COWBOYS for life!!!
Jimmy can't fix that mess. No offense to Jimmy, but he had a great staff around him. He wouldn't have that now, so I doubt he'd be even nearly as successful.
@AllPro777 You're right...Well, maybe he will stick with Jason Garret. If I am not mistaken, isn't John Fox a defensive guru? Maybe we could bring him in as defensive coordinator? I know, I'm reaching but, we've got to do something.
When all else fails give it to emmitt and rip the shit outta the gay ass broncos with their sorry players and stupid coaches. Oh and did i mention their gay ass uniforms. Pathetic!! John Denver my fat ass!!
This was my first NFL game that I got to go to as a kid...Dad and I were 5 or 6 rows behind the Cowboys bench, and we heard Aikman tell Novacek "It's in the bag" before that final drive...As a cowboys fan in Denver it was awesome!
@Ironside287 I miss this team too. I still watch the old games i have on vhs..I have so much memorabilia of Troy Aikman,Smith, irvin and they are all signed with certificates.
@ravenloftable: I am a Denver fan, too, and I think that our 97 and 98 Bronco teams and the 98 Vikings are better than the 1992 Cowboys. The 78 Steelers are the best of all-time.
@a7b7c78 98 Vikings? Gary fuckin' Anderson! lmao. Respect to 97 and 98 Broncos. 78 Steelers are def. not better than 92 cowboys. 1985 Bears are the best team of all time.
@brainiac101693: The Steelers had nine Hall-of-Famers. I don't think the 92 Cowboys will have anywhere near that. I don't think that the 90's Cowboys were even the best teams in franchise history. The 77-78 teams were better and deeper at most positions. What helped the 90's Boys was playing Buffalo. They won the junk AFC by default. Then, O'Donnell handed them the third one. Favre also helped them that year in the NFC title game.
@a7b7c78 Okay that was when a 250 pounder could play nose guard. You cant really compare 70s teams to modern teams in my opinion. 90s cowboys would destroy 78 steelers. But thats cause there was still a lot more to learn about the game at that time. Youre basically saying there was not talent in the 90s so it was easy for the Cowboys to win? Maybe they were just that good. All-pro receiver, halfback, quarterback, o-line. And the best shut down corner of all time.
@brainiac101693: I know that Dallas's O-line would outweigh the Steeler D-line, but so what? Joe Greene, Ernie Holmes, Dwight White, and L.C. Greenwood were great players, and they had great LB's in Ham, Lambert, Andy Russell, and Robin Cole playing behind them. They were also really mean, and the Dallas fat farm wouldn't scare them at all.
I am a DIE-HARD Cowboys fan and I love seeing Novacek doing what he did best. I love Witten, he's a better athlete and blocker than Novacek was but Novacek had an uncanny ability to find an open seam when he needed to. It must have been endlessly frustrating for opposing LBs to cover him.
If the Broncos had a better defense to begin with the Cowboys would not have won that game. Then they almost loss the fumble @ the end. If Kragen would've beat Aikman to the ball a second early that game would've been in the books for the Broncos. They would've escaped with a win. Man, I remember that game. I just became a Broncos fan a year earlier and was rooting for them to beat Dallas. It was still a great game that don't get any recognition. Even know my Broncos loss. Still GO BRONCOS!
I remember watching the last parts of those games it around the 2:20 when CBS cut from the Redskins v. Giants game to this game. I was living in Virigina at that time.
I am not a cowboys fan at all, however I think the 1992 Cowboys team is one of the better teams of all time. Yes a 13-3 Record is pretty damm good, there playoff run proved how good they were.
they could've been undefeated. when they lost to the eagles 31-7 it wasn't so much a beatdown as much as it was a self-destruction on the cowboys part. the eagles got 3 tds off turnovers and another td after a bad punt that only went 30 yards from the dallas end zone. and the cowboys had another turnover at the eagles goaline and they dropped a pick six just before halftime. they lost 31-7 but they had more total yards than the eagles.
@SFF Absolutely! I don't think alot of Cowboys fans appreciate the quality of the NFL from those days, and the level of discipline the 92 Cowboys had on the field, and how well they were coached. I think it's been forgotten by some that even as recently as the 90's, the NFL was a VERY different league, it was MUCH more professional, and games were won with fundamentals, not highlight reel plays and dancing around and trashtalking. Look how calmly the Cowboys act on this drive, doin' their job...
@SFFOOL76 And if you watch the Dallas Cowboys NOW, and the decision making by the coaches and coordinators, the offense, and Romo leading them on the field.....compared to drives like THIS...it's like watching retarded NFL football vs. REAL NFL football. When you look at how professionaly this drive is managed and the plays that are made, it makes the Cowboys now look like kids playing in the back yard.
we really were an incredible team in the 90.s Aikman, Emmitt, Irvin, Moose, Jay the o line, woodson, so many awesome players. not to mention Jimmy Johnson was an awesome coach. thanks for posting brings backs memories. COWBOYS FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!
