  • Well true, but not unique (not that you said it was I know). The only well known female writer/comedian out there right now is Tina Fey and even shows she head writes/has writen for (SNL, 30 Rock) feature quite a few dick jokes. I gotta admit though, Daily Show could beat anyone in a dick joke-off (they tell a LOT of dick jokes is what I'm saying lol). I still like it though :)

  • awesome :)

  • This video shows that the majority of comedians and late night talk shows feature males rather than females. I think this video shows that it is potentially harder for women to get their name out there in comedy or even to become a comedic writer. I think that Jonathan McIntosh produced a very well done remix.

  • You do realize the Daily Show creators are women, right? Madeleine Smithberg and Lizz Winstead. You Fox News Tea Partiers will try anything to discredit Jon Stewart because he OWNS you morons on a nightly basis.

  • @Saebeck32 - Really? Seriously? You watch a video critical of institutional sexism + heteronormativity in tv comedy and you automatically think it must have been created by a Fox News Tea Partier? That's just mindboggling. Both Lizz and Madeleine left TDS before Jon took over when the format and skits were changed dramatically. FYI the gender disparity data for the show over the past 10 years is linked in the description. Only 2 out of 16 writers are women etc etc etc.

  • @rebelliouspixels Why don't you make a video highlighting how Fox News trots out ditzy, uninformed blondes to be their news anchors in a cynical attempt to get ratings. If you make a video like that, I will believe you are truly concerned about sexism and not some republican shill.

  • @Saebeck32 - 1st - Making fun of FNC is easy. Their sexism, racism, homophobia, warmongering are obvious + often critiqued. 2nd - I've made work trashing FNC before if you bother to look. 3rd - I think its much more important to be critical of sexism on our side and not give people like Jon a pass just because his show is great left-of-center satire. 4th - The gender imbalance and boys locker room style of the daily show has been criticized by many women on the left for years.

  • @Saebeck32 - 5th - I did also watch 400 episodes on the Daily Show to make this remix, which would have been next to impossible if I didn't actually enjoy the show (minus all the dick jokes of course).

  • Accurate.

  • Hilarious! Thanks for this!

  • Perhaps "hetero-normative" is a slightly more appropriate word to describe the original FotC song.

  • Men being disappointed that there are too many men around to effectively pick up women - homophobia?

  • @OddballTube - While perhaps unintentional what I think ads to the larger culture of homophobia is that the song reenforces the idea that straight men getting "too close to each other" is somehow funny. Its not funny that straight men are terrified of dancing near each other, its a tragic result of our homophobic culture.

  • srsly perfect.

  • So true! lol

  • @rebelliouspixels lets take a step back from sexist or non sexist arguement and look at this from a business oriented perspective. tv shows have demographics. if your capable of strongly appealing to a specific demographic, your advertising goes through the roof and your successful. not to agree or disagree, simply another perspective on the situation since it is the "show business" for a reason. not to mention in general politics are fairly sexist.

  • Oh man. I love The Daily Show, but this really is a problem.

  • HOLY SHIT LMAO @ 1:36

  • I like it because it is mostly true. current;y they only have three females on border but many female writers behind scenes that we don't see. the writing staff is pretty equal in both men and women. it's also not like they have an extreme male bias either. I love Jon Stewart but again, too many dicks.

  • @dontcare971 - Sadly The Daily Show writing team has only 2 women out of 16 writers. (And that's the most women they have ever had in the writing room). I do also enjoy The Daily Show (about half the time) and once in a while they have a great segment on women's issues but too often it feels kinda like a boy's locker room. Too many dicks indeed.

  • while i love your critique jonathan i find your choice of song to perpetuate transphobic bioessentialism. i also find the song to be homophobic. i get the intention, but i think the feminist analysis stops a generation too early <3

  • @lysondu18 - I also think the song is deeply problematic for the reasons you point out, my hope was that in this new transformed context the lyrics and homophobic nature of the song would be subverted in a playful way. Keep in mind that remix video is good at simple messages, but not so good at complicated or subtle analysis. Gotta pick your battles sometimes. You would not believe the number of complaints I've gotten already for calling the song homophobic in my video description.

  • What is more sexist? The fact that the majority of correspondents on The Daily Show are men, or you screening all comments to make sure that no one says anything mean about women?

  • @crockpocketable - Um, I screen comments for hate speech and sexist trolls. This is a best practice for almost any content relating to gender online because the levels of rampant misogyny are so high (especially on YouTube). In fact more people and sites should do it. I screen in exactly two places - my channel and my own site. Anyone is free to comment about the video anywhere else on the entire interwebs.

  • @rebelliouspixels - Also for this video I'm screening for "mansplaining" because there is ample space for that elsewhere, just look at the rest of the internet.

  • 1) Having such extreme commenting guidelines, while I understand the intent, will result in actual or perceived censorship. Either you are censoring opinions you disagree with or people will not comment because they think you are. Either way, you are effectively censoring/limiting your comments. 2) The song is not homophobic. It's a song by straight men lamenting the situation when there are not enough of their preferred dance partners available. It is not about fearing/hating gay people.

  • @dreinersmann 1) Strictly speaking censorship can only be done by "states or institutions acting as states". People are free to make any comment they want about the video anywhere else on the internet including wherever its been embedded. What I can do here in my tiny corner of the web (my channel + my own site) is to try to exclude the sexist trolls so as to make this small space more comfortable and productive for the rest of the people on the net.

  • @dreinersmann 2) The song exists in a deeply homophobic and hetero-normative society, so any song based on the idea that men should not be dancing together or even close to one another (or that men dancing close to each other is somehow funny) is very problematic. So is straight guys saying things like "Too many dicks, too close to my shit" & "Move apart guys, spread'em out" etc. Most of the lyrics add to the overall homophobic culture even if its not explicitly meant as anti-gay.

  • @rebelliouspixels You are removing the song from it's original context. It's easy to find things to be offended about when you cherrypick. If perhaps they had wandered into a gay bar, knowingly, and felt compelled to sing that, then you'd have a point, as it stands, i would be hard pressed to find it homophobic.

As a lesbian I could sing a similar song when entering a bar, would that make me homophobic? sexist? in my view preference alone can't be considered either.

  • @perrywinterdingle - No it would not make you homophobic for you to sing it. But it's two straight men who wrote/preformed this song. The fact that most straight men are terrified of being preserved as "gay" for getting too close to other men is tragic, homophobic and not something to laugh at. The song reenforces the idea that straight men getting "too close" is somehow funny. I don't think FotC are being homophobia on purpose here, but the end result is the same.

  • very well made :)

  • Absolutely LOVE IT!!! I will repost on my website..

  • LOVED it. Well noticed and edited :)

  • It's not even about whether women are "funny;" "Daily Show" covers current events and, if one used it, alone, to gauge who is, or is not, influential in culture and society, one would think OUR women were wearing burkas and not allowed outdoors! This is a lot of fun. I'm putting it in my blog & on Facebook. It really rocks, no pun intended. Too bad the song ain't "Too Many Whites, Straights, Rich, etc."

  • Everyone like this, repost it and spread it. Let's see if we can get "Too Many Dicks" actually ON the Daily show! :D

  • HAHAHHAHHAHA. Awesome.
