I actually really enjoyed the first few episodes where the characters were gathering research on time travel. As soon as the Mayuri stuff happens the anime devolves into what I'll call the Madoka Magica clause; going back in time over and over to save a person's life. This was cool when I first saw it in Higurashi, but now its really old. After that, like you said, the show then shows its true colors of being an H-game.

I'll have to disagree gigguk, if you have watched "The Time Machine (2002)" movie, you'll notice that the anime is NOT entirely original. I won't go into details because it would become a spoiler for those who haven't watched "Steins Gate".

@L3irus I've seen "The Time Machine", and I'm a bit confused as to what you're talking about. If I remember correctly the one in that movie was just a standard time machine (physically transports you through time), but I've never seen anything about changing the past using text messages or indeed the "second" method used in this series.

I was a bit disappointed with Steins Gate when I noticed that huge similarity between the two. Though yes, the sending text messages part seems to be unique since I haven't seen anything like that before.

______________________________­____ You CAN actually save people from dying(although going through the trouble of changing to different divergent lines is incredibly hard and tedious). Okabe at the end managed to reach what he calls the Stein's Gate timeline were all is well with the world(or at least his world around him).

Side note: Did they ever explain how or why he has reading steiner? What episode?

Awesome review! I, like you, always wait until a series is finished so I don't have to deal with "To Be Continued..." I do almost always opt to watch subbed though.

Also I agree so much about the current anime climate. There are so many mediocre slice of lifes and comedies. I don't have a problem with these genres, but there are so many mediocre ones.

But yeah, I'm going to try to watch this when the bluray comes out, since I still have like 20 things to watch.

Well, Baccano was gripping from the start. I haven't seen Steins;Gate, but gikkuk's review points out its slow start and inconsistency, which would, at least IMO, justify taking off a point or two.

@SurvivorsOfTitanic Well I liked Baccano and Steins;Gate, and in all honesty it depends on what you like in anime. To me the slow start was a great part of the series. Even though the actual plot main baddies were slow to come it kept me interested with comedy and suspense. And of course the main character who I feel is the most realistic character in any anime I've ever seen. But I suggest you watch it, what gigguk considers dicking around is merely opinion. significant imo

Hey, could you do a review of Cyborg 009? ( The 2001 series, that is.)

The manga it was based off of was made by Shotaro Ishinmori, creator of Kamen Rider, and underling of the great Osamu Tezuka, AKA the god and creator of all manga.

It was extremely popular in Japan, and warranted several series, however, only the 2001 series got a dub, and faced some poor treatment due to its low popularity in America.
