I could listen to this song all day long... seriously. Jack White is just genius incarnate. The tone he gets from his guitars is beautiful and his music is at the same time original and very ancient... goes straight to the core of me.
I remember buying the hardest button to button 7 inch vinyl with this on from a traditional record shop when I was 16 and having to play it on my parents old record player whenever they were out so could turn it up full volume. Used to skip hardest button to button coz had on CD but loved this song, so glad to have found it on here! cheers for posting!
one thing i like aobut the white stripes is that everytime i look em up and listen to their music, i always, ands i mean ALWAYS find a nother new song that i din know from them, and i like it
@jkam101 I believe it was also released in Europe under the album title the B-Side Collection. Kinda hard to find in the states legally though. Still a great album.
Wikipedia says this: "St. Ides of March", a song by The Soledad Brothers, covered by The White Stripes on the single "The Hardest Button to Button" So, yeah. It's a cover.
The Soledad Brothers and the White Stripes were friends from the Detroit/Toledo conection. Johnny Walker from the Soledad's plays slide on this song which the Soledad's wrote. I was lucky enough to see the Soledad's last gig, in Detroit, a vastly underrated band. This is a great version of one of their songs.
ohh soo good i love this song!!!!!!!! so soothibg and i love how he then breaks into his yellingness voice!! hummmmm!! m--e--l--o--d--y s--w--i--n--g
Sounds like Do becuase Jack is playing a suspended 3rd back to the mediant quite a bit in the verse melody, or the 4th scale degree, not something you hear a lot of in his usual blues-drenched antics. Mostly pentatonic stuff, though he does it fucking amazingly well. Praise Jackie.
I suppose part of the main riff sounds a bit like the riff in "Do", even though these are in different tunings. I can kind of see a resemblance, though.
please tell me where you found the picture of them at 2:00 .. the black and white with the two little girls !!!! i need to have that !!!!!
