That is class. To be honest, it's typical of BBC Scotland and their production standards. Radio Scotland is even worse. At least Catriona handled it quite well and even had a little laugh about it. On Radio Scotland, you get embarrassed silences and people who can't string a sentence together without fumbling their words reading the news.

My guess is that the teleprompter read "he" (they would have known they were writing about a man) but the newsreader said "she" instead, because there was a woman in the photo. What's dubious is that she goes on to say "Apologies; that obviously wasn't who we thought it was". Clearly not "obviously"; if you'd known Rudolf Hess was a man, you'd have stuck to the teleprompter instead of saying "she" because the photo displayed a woman.

BBC Scotland's news is supposed to look amateurish, when it was set up peers in the house of Lords said so. It's incase we scots start to feel "a bit too scottish". They also said that we will never get international news on BBC scotland for the same reason.

Even look at the weather map of Scotland on the BBC, then google a map of Scotland, The BBC weather map is supposed to make us look tiny. The BBC said it's because of "the curviture of the earth". However England's size doesn't change.
